Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is back in the news and continues to engender debate among feminists. Although feminists initially found her to be a dream and then ultimately a nightmare, the latest round of Palin appearances may signal a feminist success story after all, heralding that true equality for women has finally arrived.
When Palin initially burst upon the national stage as Republican presidential hopeful John McCain's vice-presidential running mate, feminists sat up and took notice, especially since many were disappointed that Hillary Clinton did not secure a spot on the Democratic ticket.
When feminists first learned about Palin, many found her personal story persuasive. She initially self-identified as a feminist, was a governor who managed to successfully balance elected office and having a large family, and she presented herself as a self-made woman, holding a baby in one hand while field-dressing a moose with the other.
However, it takes more than a vagina and a compelling personal narrative to win the feminist vote. When her policy positions were carefully analyzed, the honeymoon was over. Every one of her views stood in stark contrast to a progressive, feminist agenda. Palin is anti-choice and anti-comprehensive sexuality education, and was against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.
Her recent appearances continue to frustrate feminists. She appeared a hypocrite not once but twice in recent days, first calling for Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel's firing over his use of the word retard while excusing Rush Limbaugh's use of the same term by dismissing it as satire and then ridiculing President Barack Obama's use of a teleprompter while she wrote crib notes on her hand.(continued)

Doesn’t it seem as though manly, horse-faced, liberal feminazis are the ones who suffer the most from Palin Derangement Syndrome? I wonder why. LOL!!!
Feminists don’t want successful women; they simply want to push the feminist agenda.
(Proud anti-feminist since the 1980’s)
She's a professor of Social Work at the University of Houston.
who cares about the feminist vote? They can enjoy their equal pay for equal unemployment under Obama.
more evidence for Professor Limbaugh’s theory.
I stand corrected. [snicker]
I’ve noticed that Hillary has shed the unisexual look since Sarah emerged on the scene. Interestingly, Sarah Palin has one quality which Hillary and most other feminists don’t even understand: integrity. Bob
Oh...sheesh....I’ll have to see if my niece ends up in one of her “classes”....
I'm sure Bill considered her the perfect wife...she wasn't much of a hindrance to his dating habits.
"progressive" = "facist"
"feminist" = "socialist"
Thus, translating into normal english: "Every one of her views stood in stark contrast to a facist, socialist agenda."
Palin has my vote locked down with this vote of no-confidence by a confirmed facist-socialist worm bag.
Nice bunch, huh?
I challenge this goofball to name one!
I’ve had “ladies” at work ask me about this. I tell them Sarah Palin is not a victim and does whatever she wants regardless of what the government says. No reply.
Feminists will never forgive Sarah Palin for letting her baby live.
So she doesn't have a real job?
That was the most aptly put statement I’ve heard here in a while. How spot on you are...
Another women hater. The Liberals are full of them.
I doubt she even knows what a douche is.
“...However, it takes more than a vagina and a compelling personal narrative to win the feminist vote.....”
Since when? It worked for Sonia Sotomayor.
I really don't care.
You seem to have gotten the point of the piece precisely backwards, sarcastic as it was.
Dude it was a joke. The reference to Rosie not knowing what a douche is was supposed to clue you in.
Some folks are seriously wound too tight.
Everyone is a "hypocrite" who isn't a marxist. It's the left's favorite word. Even more liked than "racist".
Is this a not so subtle way of slamming Gov. Perry. If I am not mistaken, Gov. Palin endorsed Perry.
“Equality is here at long last when an incompetent woman can rise through the ranks to join many of the incompetent men already occupying public office and pundit chairs.”
Nope. Nobody can match Obama when it comes to incompetency.
indeed...I couldn’t get past this image: mold of Clinton highly educated, a policy wonk, tireless worker, longtime activist, perfect wife and mother
This is a false issue and a red herring. It isn’t the gender or the race that matters; it’s the heart and the mind.
Typical conservative: judging people by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin or by the configuration of their reproductive organs.
I think that the author probably that thought she was managing a clever bit of "damning with faint praise"....
...but it just comes across as nervous tittering, from a woman who's quite afraid that Palin will win.
They come in 'metro' versions too.
You nailed it! Spot on.
Not sure if she ever ‘found Palin to be a dream’ but Camille Paglia seems to respect, if not admire, Mrs P.
Palin didn’t have to suck you know what to get to the top! Take that you liberal fem-nazis!
That’s what really pisses them off!
Feminism first sold itself on the entirely fair idea that women should get equal pay for equal work. It has since turned into incessant lies and hypocrisy, family-destroying special rights, seething hatred for boys and men, and a screaming-fisted totalitarian threat against any woman who dares challenge it’s collectivist corruption and flat-out viciousness.
Feminists are pigs.
However, it takes more than a vagina and a compelling personal narrative to win the feminist vote.
Many women, and a lot of men, have fallen under the illusion that if it weren’t for the femi-nazis, all women would still be home, chained to the kitchen, no future for a career, and expected to be at the beck of her husband, her master. The fact is all the present “advances” made by women would have happened without the presence of the noisy, anti-male, anti-American femi-nazis. History shows that women were already entering the work force in large numbers post-WWII. When I started working for a major corporation in my home town in the early seventies, half the career workers in the office were female. All the femi-nazis did was poison the atmosphere.
Beverly, you’ve phailed to convince me.
Every one of her views stood in stark contrast to a progressive, feminist agenda. ..................................Ah ha! TS, she’s got my and my wife’s vote! I’m married to a reincarnate Harriet Nelson or Mrs Cleaver, who wants a progressive wife anyway?
