One thing I’ve learned about liberal attitudes toward fraud in government programs -
THEY DON’T CARE.
As long as everyone who “needs” the assistance gets it, they don’t care how many others abuse the program.
Man, I’ve been waiting for that photoshop right there.
Fitting.
Very Fitting.
0bama as the “Looter Guy”
Said child must not be hungry enough,
or be under enough parental discipline to be thankful for the food placed in front of him.
I don’t think the people on this board are talking about people like you. You seem to be the type who would use FS’s wisely for food for your children. I wouldn’t be afraid to say that well over half of Food Stamp recipients are not like that. There is a huge amount of abuse in the program. There are ways to cut out the abuse. The government just refuses to do it.
Or perhaps said child (that I was speaking of) has a mental disability? You do not know me well enough to judge me.
I agree and it hurts the rest of us. Honest people are judged because of the dishonest ones.
true. I am not autistic, but only ate elbow macaroni for 2 years when i was a kid. I just wouldn’t eat if they were not elbows.
LOL that’s the only way I serve spaghetti here (less messy than the long noodles).
That is good that you can do that. My mom used to have stuff stolen from her garden, too. Of course that was back when land was plentiful and most people planted more than they needed to make up for what went missing. Even back then, there were people who would rather steal it from producers than produce it themselves.
my poor Mom, I was a skinny kid and she thought I was gonna waste away!
My oldest son used to eat paper. Constantly. I finally asked the doctor if it had any nutritional value as a supplement.
Even providing food will lead to some form of black market or extortion of the US government. As long as the government is involved, someone will be trying to cheat it.
I am ashamed of many of the posters here. Obviously, they are not in the 10% that are unemployed and cannot find work.
I thought about this family and what would happen if we had to eat “kibble” for the year we have now been unemployed. I suspect my son would have resorted to burglary or something equally appalling rather than eat kibble.
I, for one, am grateful for the meager food stamp rationing we have received; although I cringe when I pull out the card to “pay” at the grocery store. We ARE eating beans and rice as the allotment will not stretch for the month if we do not watch what we purchase. Name brands and steaks my arse. It has been a year since this family has had a meal as we were accustomed a little over a year ago.
One positive outcome is that our lovely state does not get the state sales taxes it once got off me when I paid with cash for groceries. Talk about a tax on the poor!
You think most of the quasi-humans we are talking about give two rats’ patoots about their children’s “growth and development”?
This can’t be because clinton the impeached sink emperor “ended welfare as we know it”.
Brisket stretches very well when combined with cabbage and potatoes.
Add some ham to the beans and make some homemade biscuits (I can PM you my recipie if you like).
Plain rice with Italian dressing is a favorite here.
Someone needs to care about their health.
“Remember the good oldays when Food stamps really were stamps. The person paying for their food had the stigma of paying with coupons for food, instead of simply swiping a card. That went away because it made the recipients of the Food Stamps feel bad.”
Having been on food stamps after I got my cum laude college degree and lived in my car for over a year afterward, I can tell you that you feel bad enough with the card. I cannot describe what it’s like to be at the mercy of a social worker.
You are required to document 24 attempts to find work per month and are given enough to only realistically pay for 75% of what you would need to buy food with. Eventually I got tired of it and got my food at church-run food pantries instead.
I live where they’re made. :-)
As I said in an earlier post, my mom worked in Social Services (not food stamps, though, I think that it had something to do with housing, or HEAP).
She figured (and is fond of quoting!) that roughly 1 in 4 -to- 1 in 5 of her clients were on the rolls because they genuinely needed help. Either they were disabled, or unable to work because of various circumstances, or just needed a hand up for a bit.
The rest were fully capable (in her opinion), and many of them knew how to work the system better than she did. So.....75-80% of the people were "freeloading", her caseload was roughly 400 people, and she was one of a dozen or so caseworkers in the *county*.
Might be best if you didn't do the math. It sets my teeth on edge just to think about it. As it did her....not much room for a by-the-book conservative in a government handout agency.
