Climate change may extend allergy season: study

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Sneezing, congestion, and runny noses from hay fever may be lasting longer because climate change may be extending pollen seasons, doctors in Italy said on Monday.

Pollen seasons as well as the amount of pollen in the air progressively increased during a six-year study in Italy, the doctors told a meeting of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology in New Orleans.

The team at Genoa University recorded pollen counts, how long pollen seasons lasted and sensitivity to five types of pollen in the Bordighera region of Italy from 1981 to 2007.

"By studying a well-defined geographical region, we observed that the progressive increase of the average temperature has prolonged the duration of the pollen seasons of some plants and, consequently, the overall pollen load," Dr. Walter Canonica, who worked on the study, said in a statement.

The percentage of patients with reactions to the allergens increased throughout the study but it is not clear whether longer pollen seasons actually put more people at risk for developing allergies, the researchers said.

Allergic rhinitis, commonly known as hay fever, is a reaction to indoor or outdoor airborne allergens, such as pollen.

"Longer pollen seasons and high levels of pollen certainly can exacerbate symptoms for people with allergic rhinitis and for those who previously had minimal symptoms," said the AAAAI's Estelle Levetin, who was not involved in the study.

Actually, Climate Change will cause the allergy season to lengthen as well as shorten. This makes sense! Now pay me my grant money for the results I just produced!

“Climate change” has been occurring since the beginning of time. People need to learn to deal with it the way our ancestors did. Pick up an extra box of Kleenex.

I want to see the allergy records for 1500 through 1800 A.D.

When did that Gezhundite business start?
And are they trying to banish *Bless you” or even worse;
“Once a wish, twice a kiss, three times a letter and four times something better”

Eh???

They are really starting to piss me off!

Climate change causes the oceans to rise by about 300 feet and causes the oceans to drop about 300 feet. The ice caps have come and gone. We just happen to be alive when it’s just right.

One thing for sure, we can’t stop the next ice age. Be we can stop the lies.

Ever wonder why you never stop hearing about studies finding GW responsible for everything from kidney stones to cannibalism to extended allergy season? Explains MIT's Richard Lindzen: "It's become standard that whatever you're studying, include global warming's effects in your proposal and you'll get your (government) funding."

Just an incremental step by enviro-nuts to try and reinstate "climate change" into the American physche.

Allergy season is upon us ANYWAY, but this article is designed so that this year when the gullibles sneeze. they will programatically think, "OhmuhGod...it's global warming!".

I'm really tired of this hogwash...although there was a small lull in their rantings after the hoax was exposed, they're trying to pull a "saul alinsky" and step on the gas, as if it never happened. That's gives the "unwashed" the impression that the findings as a hoax were wrong.

"Climate change" has always been with us...4 times a year, every year...it's called the "Seasons". Songs have been written about them, paintings have been painted, and poems celebrating the seasons abound.

The goreites cash cow is out of milk, and they're calling in some of their favorite media "bulls" to lay in a fresh supply of B.S.

I guess if you don't believe in something, you'll fall for anything...and the climate change gang has captured quite a few vacant heads out there scared them into submission.

IF there were global warming, there is nothing we could do ab out it anyway; shut down every car, every factory, and go back to stone age living, and if the earth was going to have global warming, it will happen...because it is all dependent on the SUN.

God said the world would be destroyed by FIRE next time around anyway...what could be "warmer" than that...all the "algores" and cap 'n' trade taxes in the world can't stop that "warming".

Darn right. Bush was Governor of Texas, and everybody in Texas has allergies.

Coincidence? I think not!
