The American Petroleum Institute announced today that Deryck Spooner will join API as senior director for external mobilization, i.e., the guy who does the grass-roots organizing. Thats news because Spooners previous job was doing the same thing for the Nature Conservancy. As of this writing, he is still listed as a member of the conservancys climate change team. Before that, Spooner did grass-roots organizing for the AFL-CIO and NARAL Pro-Choice America.
API is clearly pleased with its coup, offering effusive praise of Spooner

Deryck has extensive experience in the strategic and tactical aspects of both political and issue campaigns, said API President and CEO President Jack Gerard. Hes a veteran of coalition building and grassroots mobilization and will play a vital role in our advocacy work at a critically important moment for U.S. energy policy. Were extremely fortunate to have him on our team, Mr. Gerard added.”
this sounds not good...
Unless he got his mind right. Either a plant or a former double-agent.
“grass-roots organizing” for the petroleum industry? Doesn’t sound like anything I recognise.
“plant or a former double-agent”
just a mercenary for hire. petrol wants someone with “green” credentials. no big deal IMO.
API; “Look at the ho we bought.”
He’ll know who to talk to in the regulatory agencies, and how much to bribe the current green politicians. He’d be called a lobbyist, I suspect, but Barry and Nancy have decreed that no one can be called a lobbyist in this most open of all administrations.
... you don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows...
Too risky of a move.
