NEW YORK Publication has been halted for a disputed book about the atomic bombing of Japan in 1945, The Associated Press has learned.
Charles Pellegrino's "The Last Train from Hiroshima" had received strong reviews and had been optioned for a possible film by "Avatar" director James Cameron. But publisher Henry Holt and Company, responding to questions from the AP, said Monday that Pellegrino "was not able to answer" several concerns, including whether two men mentioned in the text actually existed.
"It is with deep regret that Henry Holt and Company announces that we will not print, correct or ship copies of Charles Pellegrino's `The Last Train from Hiroshima,'" the publisher said in a statement issued to the AP.

James Cameron is going to have to find another author to pen his next anti-American tirade.
Please edit the redundancy in you headline.
James Cameron was going to turn this into an anti-American film and in his words make it an uncompromising look at Hiroshima. Oh, how brave of you James. It would probably push the same ridiculous historical revisionism that says the US didn’t need to drop the bombs because the Japanese were about to surrender. Bull!

Translation:
It's all made-up anti-American liberal BS.
Good for the publisher to drop this
This makes me especially happy if this stops his revisionist history or an act that was indeed necessary to end the war.
I know Pellegrino. He’s not a liberal. I’ve also been reading his Hiroshima book, and so far it’s not an anti-American screed. He’s admitted that he got taken by one of his sources, and that part of the book is weak. I don’t know what’s going on here, but he’s not a bad guy, IMHO.
There are subtleties involved.
It is like my dad talking about "them *-damned lantern-jawed, hatchet-faced, cob-handled, shackle-backed democrats."
There were subtleties involved ... and nuances.
Liberal view of history = ‘fake but accurate’.
I don't know him, but I do know some of his work - namely, "The Jesus Family Tomb", which was ridiculous. Hardly a piece of serious scholarship and more closely resembling a Dan Brown novel. He clearly had a point of view in that book, and it wasn't conservative.
Moreover, Pellegrino served as an adviser to Avatar. I would be curious about the subject matter he advised Cameron on. Was it the part that said Marines are blood thirsty killers, or that all corporations are bad? Again, another project that hardly involves anything remotely conservative in nature.
I haven't read the book - yet - but if James Cameron was eager to turn it into a movie of some kind, I can only anticipate it would be some kind of leftist's drivel, as that's the only kind of movie Cameron seems to make today.
I don’t know Cameron and haven’t seen Avatar. From what I’ve heard it sounds like typical Hollywood BS. But Pellegrino didn’t write the script. I wasn’t interested in THE JESUS TOMB, but I have enjoyed Charlie’s books about Thera, etc. The point is that, despite these other connections, I know that Pellegrino, as he put it to me, “burned his liberal card” on 9/11/01. His background is a bit more complicated than it might appear on the surface.
The titles and subjects of some of the books this guy wrote grabbed my attention a while back so I checked out several of them from my local library.I remember thinking that some of these sound like they were written by someone with about as much experience in the subject as I had. The science and the conclusions to my layman’s mind just didn’t make sense, but I am far from any expertise in any of the hard sciences so I shrugged it off. I read through most of his Titanic book and wondered how he got the information that he asserted but otherwise found it interesting as he provided “scientific” explanations of why certain things happened or didn’t happen. The other books that he wrote prior to “the last train” just seem to wishy-washy and bizarre.
I did check out “the Last train from Hiroshima” from my local library a few weeks ago and as I recall I didn’t think there was a whole lot of anti-American bias in the book. Most of it was actually interesting as it dealt with how some people survived and others didn’t. Yet as I read it I kept thinking the information and factual assertions that he presented is a little too good to be true. I also kept wondering is the science in this book was actually correct.
I guess the fact that the book is been pulled actually reaffirms my “faith” in current publication standards. until today I hadn’t seen any assertions that what he published was wrong.
I enjoyed the Thera book, too. And my jaw about hit the floor when I read his Titanic book a while back and saw him referring to the possibility that Saturn’s moon Enceladus had a liquid ocean of water beneath the ice — written about two decades before the Cassini probe spotted evidence strongly suggesting it. Maybe Pellegrino has a bad rep for being somewhat sensationalistic in his writing for a popular audience, I dunno.
So a liberal write a novel and claims it is non fiction? Sure wouldn’t be the first one!
Ok, I totally do not understand the bit about Marines. Hard work would make even me thirsty. HOWEVER, all corporations are bad? I suppose capitalist corporations appear "bad" from a communist point of view... So, it you think corporations are "bad" it appears that you are a communist. Ok, I can do that.
Did you see the movie Avatar, because it is that movie at which my comments are directed? Cameron paints the US Marines VERY poorly in that movie, as he does with US and Global corporations, as well.
Is this the same guy who wrote the “Unearthing Atlantis” rubbish?
The guy didn’t answer the questions the way they him to. How surprising. More propaganda.
I don't use /s and somtimes the joke is buried pretty deep.
