Republican consultant Charley Manning is replacing the nationally syndicated Rush Limbaugh on WRKO radio starting Monday.
Jason Wolfe, program director for WRKO-AM (680), confirmed to the Herald that Manning will take over the stations weekday noon to 3 p.m. slot.
Manning, who has served as a campaign adviser to former Gov. Mitt Romney, emphasized that his new show, The Charley Manning Show, will be local.
The GOP strategist said his show will touch on all of the local issues that everybody is talking about, but with a special look at politics.
Im looking forward to really getting into politics, especially because this is going to be such a great year with the three-way race for governor, a big race for attorney general and state treasurer, Manning said.
Limbaugh has been heard on WRKOs airwaves for more than 15 years, but Clear Channel has been in talks to swipe him for its new local conservative talk station, WXKS-AM (1200), which debuts in April. Limbaugh is syndicated through Clear Channels subsidiary, Premiere Radio Networks.
Manning is no stranger to WRKO. Hes filled-in on the air and co-hosted The Spin Doctors from 1995 to 1997.
Hes a veteran of this market. Hes a superior political analyst, Wolfe said. In a year thats going to have such intensity around the election cycle, hes going to bring an unbelievable amount of credibility and insight.
Yup though it’s on a delay. Clear Channel apparently wanted their own guy, Jason Lewis, live 6-9 so Levin, while he does get on, is on a 3 hr delay
