General Motors Co is recalling 1.3 million compact cars in North America to address a power steering problem that has been linked to 14 crashes and one injury, the company said on Tuesday.

U.S. safety regulators opened an investigation on Jan. 27 into approximately 905,000 Cobalt models in the United States after receiving more than 1,100 complaints of power steering failures.

The recall covers the 2005-2010 model year Chevrolet Cobalt and 2007-2010 Pontiac G5 in the United States; 2005-2006 Pontiac Pursuit sold in Canada, and the 2005-2006 Pontiac G4 sold in Mexico, GM said in a statement.

I take it that Congress won't be holding hearings into this.

I'd rather take my chances in a Toyota than anything made by Government Motors.

If I see a Toyota in the rear view mirror of my 2010 GM car, I get the hell out of the way.

Government hearings (televised) and non-stop primetime news coverage for the next two weeks. NOT!

The lack of media coverage on the recalls of government motors cars is simply further proof that Bozo and the boys are doing a hit job on Toyota, trying to severely damage the sales Toyota vehicles.

At my Toyota's last scheduled maintenance, the dealer performed the "fix" while the oil was being changed and the tires rotated. No fuss, no muss; since I already know how to use brakes and put a car in neutral, I didn't get verklempt about the issue from the beginning.

I will expecting congress to demand that GM's owner testify before a committee... he's spent the last year apologizing for America's very existence, so apologizing for her cars ought to be easy for him and his trusty teleprompter.
