Larry Summers: Blame Bad Weather for Unemployment Figures
Newsbusters ^ | 03/2/10 | Anthony Kang

President Obama continuously tries to portray himself as a friend to the little-man, middle class and small business. Hence his attacks on "fat cats" who "just don't get it," while labeling the extravagant bonuses as "obscene," and "the height of irresponsibility."

Meanwhile, members of his administration, in defending a sweeping small-business aid program Obama announced in his State of the Union, give reason to wonder if they really understand how to help small business.

Among the administration's proposals for small businesses are a $5,000 tax credit to hire new workers, elimination of capital gains taxes, and new incentives to invest in plants and equipment. At the same time, however, the administration plans to raise taxes on "the wealthiest Americans."

Rush said it and it's probably true: The unemployment numbers for February are going to be bad and they are trying to get ahead of the curve!

Surely, when it happens, it will be

unexpected!

Looks like they expect the news to be bad. This is one of the sorriest excuses I have heard.

A sociopath is someone who can look you in the eye and lie to you knowing that you know he’s lying. And expect you to accept it. These people are stone evil.

If they’re already hiring census takers, those jobs will show up in the employment reports even though they are temp jobs. Based on that, they may not expect it to be bad, and they want the numbers to look even better by setting expectations low.

Some small businesses are giving temporary layoffs, with plans to rehire come springtime. I guess that can be blamed on weather, but what happens when the usual springtime business is slow, and temporary layoffs turn into permanent layoffs.

Two descriptions ALWAYS accompany the jobless figures:

1) “ Experts were surprised.... “

2) “ Seasonally adjusted....”

What does Seasonally Adjusted mean if it doesn’t include the weather???

Yeah, we all know how that weather thingy works. The Soviet Union failed due to 72 straight crop failures caused by bad weather.

Yeah, good question. I’ve never heard in my entire life jobless figures having to do with the weather. I don’t get the connection.

I noticed that after Congress decided that SS wouldnt get a raise this year, the Congress didnt turn down their own. maybe Obama’s criticism should start in Washington.
