SEATTLE -- Anti-gun groups are taking aim at Starbucks to ban guns in any of the coffee chain's stores.
Three groups - the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, Washington CeaseFire and the Washington State Million Mom March Chapters - are rallying in Seattle today to urge Starbucks to change its policy on customers with guns. Currently, wherever the local law allows it, Starbucks' policy also allows customers to carry guns in its stores.
The company says all its outlets abide by local and state laws. One customer in Seattle says it's a good policy because of the big customer base who agree with Washington's law on guns.
"There are probably I guess 92,000 NRA members in the state," said Jim Beal, gun owner.
But at least 28,000 people disagree. They've signed petitions asking Starbucks to change its policy. The petition drive was organized by the Brady Campaign against gun violence.
"If you're not wearing shoes you can't come in, if you're not wearing a shirt you can't come in. You can say if you're bringing a gun, you can't come in," said Paul Helmke, the Brady Campaign.
The Brady Campaign says so far, Peet's Coffee, Buckhorn Grill and California Pizza Kitchen have listened to customers' concerns and barred the open carrying of guns in their establishments.
The groups will be gathering more signatures at 10:30 a.m. during a petition signing drive at Victor Steinbrueck Park, next to the Pike Place Market. The park is located close to the original Starbucks store.
Now you tell one. |
What are they all going to do? Whiz in their underwear in front of Starbucks?
Well Starbucks, how does it feel to be the new “McDonalds”? Are you happy being the latests Alinsky style target of the left?
PETA singled out McDonalds so they could have a single target with a face for their campaigns. McDonalds was no worse, or better than any other company, but by targeting McDonalds they had a company they could demonize.
The left is now going to demonize Starbucks in an effort to get all restaurants to declare a gun free zone.
Maybe this will make Starbucks reconsider their lefty support. Instead of printing trendy lefty slogans on thier cups, maybe they should try something different (like printing the 2nd amendment).
Tuesday Morning - a chain of discount stores - has an establishment near us. My wife tried to get me to go there once when I saw a no firearms notice in their window. I told her they explicitly stated that they did not want my business so I was going to honor their request. I have never darkened their door.
Pansies on parade.
Dude...I’m so laughing my butt off right now! Thanks.
I would have never guessed that Starbucks would take this position...heck, I never bothered to check when I pack at Starbucks. Good for them.
Actually those precedents merely establish that Starbucks requires certain items. It says nothing about a policy banning other items.
I boycott them because they serve crappy coffee and charge too much. Does that make me a lefty too? (ha!!).
Yet another “Senseless in Seattle” moment.
I stopped going to Starbucks because of all the damned gun fights going on! Every time I went there were these quick draw things, bullets flying around. Just a mess. Then the staff would quickly run around patching the bullet holes and the drywall compound dust got in my eyes and made me sneeze.
I used to go at least twice per week.
I am sure everyone here has read about them!
I just enjoy seeing how upset the left gets when suddenly their the target.
It’s like watching Obama preach on and on, then watching him get bent out of joint because someone dared to critisize him.
Me too. Every time the barrista asks how many shots I want, I hit the dirt!
Mothers should teach their children not to provoke people that have guns. It isn’t healthy.
