The AFL-CIO plans to roll out its biggest political campaign ever, surpassing the $53 million spent in 2008 to help elect President Barack Obama, to try to avert a repeat of the 1994 midterm election when Democrats lost a majority in Congress.

In its political campaign, the AFL-CIO is focusing its efforts on a "firewall" of six states with key congressional elections and where union voters make up a relatively high proportion of the electorate: California, New York, Illinois, Nevada, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

On Tuesday, the AFL-CIO said it would endorse Arkansas Lt. Gov. Bill Halter, who announced Monday he would challenge Sen. Blanche Lincoln. That will include millions of dollars in financial backing and thousands of members knocking on doors to get voters to polls...

Are these going to be TARP funds laundered through the unions for democratic candidates? My radar is up on this one.

Wouldn’t be surprising at all, especially with that thug Richard Trumka in there.

Exactly what are their ads going to say? How can they put any positive spin on anything the RATS have done; including those by Hussein Obama? Go ahead Union thugs, spend your money — you are not changing my mind one iota!

I think there should be a law that says it’s illegal to withhold union dues and other contributions from paychecks. I think union members should write a check each week (or month) to the unions for their dues. Maybe then they would care a little more about how their money is spent.

I agree and also think dues paid to unions should only go for administration and representation of grievances, any funds for political use should be strictly by donations from members. Of course that’ll never happen.

Encourage this behavior and make sure to never buy any product they are associated with. Lets bankrupt these filthy beggars.

Oh I agree. If we had to write out a check for the full amount of our tax liability......well.....Washington DC would end up a ghost town.

I know there are FReepers out there who are union.

Are you going to donate your hard earned money so the Unions can spend it for you to put Marxists in power?
I noticed too, unions aren’t feeding your families if you have lost your job...

It is interesting to note that a firewall is something that stops fires from spreading to other areas, and that their firewall of monetary spending includes California and New York! If I didn’t know better I might read out of this news that they are concerned they might lose both these states or that such a loss might spread to other nearby states. No need to build a firewall if there isn’t a fire out there, right?

Absolutely, and that may be exactly what they’re thinking after NJ and MA. Those elections had to shake up the union thugs.
