Glad to hear it, but it's one thing to say you're "prepared" to take a strong stand, then find a reason to "compromise" in the name of "bipartisanship." I'm concerned some GOPers may jump ship on the premise a bill with the symbolic, easily removed Republican ideas is "half a loaf."
“”You know, I don’t want to concede that it’s going to pass for sure yet,” Thune said. “
The Republicans need to delay things long enough so that Congress can face the American people during their Spring break.
The Senate Pubbies better grow a big pair before this gets to the floor. They’re gonna need’em.
It is my understanding that under Reconcilliation, they can continue to offer endless amendments and tie up the Senate indefinitely.
What "budget" has he been responsible-for besides his own personal/campaign budget?
Screw the collegial stuff - I’d rather hear, “We refuse socialism, it’s NOT what this great country is about. We will fight to protect America from ANOTHER tax burden they can not afford. Uncle Sam can’t manage a postal service - we sure as hell are not going to allow a takeover of your healthcare. We are sickened by the prospect of those tax dollars funding abortions. Americans have spoken, it’s about time Barry and his party start to listen. Oh yeah, and Harry, meet me by the bike rack after school...”
After 20 hours of debate the Repubs can offer unlimited numbers of amendments which should be a very effective way to slow this government run monster down. Also, it’s a virtual certainty that the Senate Parliamentarian will advise the leadership against using Reconciliation in order to try and pass Obamacare. The Senate Parliamentarian has no legal authority, he only offers public advise to members/leadership on the Rules of the Senate. The ultimate power is with Joe Biden, the President of the Senate. Can you imagine the backlash against the WH/Dems when the Parliamentarian comes out against using this procedure and is overruled by the Vice President? It will be earth moving, the Dems will surely lose both the House and Senate this year. Then again maybe they already believe that and are saying “what the hell, we don’t have anything to lose.”
You’re exactly right, and all the Dems can do is try to vote them down, and also try to shame the Repubs to stop tying up the Senate. I’m sure the MSM will carry all the water the Dems ask them to on this one.
What's important is that they get the job done. And that may just happen.
Yeah sure; we’ve been hearing from the beginning that the health care plan as proposed by the WH is DOA, has no chance, will die before a vote etc etc - yet, here we are. When it comes down to it, most Repubs run away like screaming school kids.
I do think all the amendments will make the dems vote on the record (rollcall) for their folks at home to know. Could be interesting seeing many of them go hide for cover.

TRI CARE FOR LIFE This from a google search:
This option would help reduce the costs of TFL, as well as costs for Medicare, by introducing minimum out-of pocket requirements for beneficiaries. Under this option, TFL would not cover any of the first $525 of an enrollees cost-sharing liabilities for calendar year 2011 and would limit coverage to 50 percent of the next $4,725 in Medicare cost sharing that the beneficiary incurred. (Because all further cost sharing would be covered by TFL, enrollees could not pay more than $2,888 in cost sharing in that year.) http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/99xx/doc9925/12-18-HealthOptions.pdf

Congress plans to block Tricare fee increases
By Rick Maze - Staff writer, Oct 7, 2009
Tricare fee increases imposed last week by the Defense Department will be repealed by a provision of the compromise 2010 defense authorization bill unveiled Wednesday by House and Senate negotiators.
Snip The fee increases were announced on Sept. 30 and took effect on Oct. 1, but the defense bill, HR 2647, includes a provision barring any fee increases until the start of fiscal 2011.
Retired Army Maj. Gen. Bill Matz, president of the National Association for Uniformed Services, said the announcement of fee increases was shocking considering that the Obama administration promised earlier this year to hold off on any new fee Tricare fee increases until fiscal 2011.
President Obama and DoD assured NAUS and the entire military family earlier this year that there would rightly be no increases in any Tricare fees in fiscal 2010, Matz said. We took them at their word, and I cant believe that a co-pay increase like this was allowed to go forward, he added.
