The White House is bracing for an ugly unemployment report on Friday that is expected to be worse because of the three winter storms that hit the East Coast last month.
Goldman Sachs predicted the economy will lose as many as 100,000 jobs in February due to blizzard-like conditions that kept employers and prospective hires from getting to the office.

So according to this report it can’t be “unexpected”. I bet that “unexpected” job losses is used throughout all reports.
To: Nachum
Goldman Sachs predictions are awesome. LOL what BS.
To: Nachum
I’m sure it will be reported as:
Barack Obama created or saved 400,000 jobs in February, which were offset by the 500,000 jobs that George W. Bush lost in February.
To: Nachum
Surprise, surprise.
Everyone in msm thinks the economy is just humming along.
Yet the “unwashed masses” KNOW the truth.

Snow may be the official reason, but I don’t buy it.

If this is true we'll see 100,000 jobs ADDED in March now that everyone can get into the office?

So to not be a victim of a BS call, the numbers for March 2009 should be at least 100,000 higher than baseline?

“Unexpected”
“It’s the weather”
It’s all BS. We’ve had snowstorms before and they’ve never caused layoffs. Any fool knows there is no real recovery going on, and they keep bringing up any reason they can as an excuse for more bad news. Next month it will be “big thunderstorms” in the south. In May it will be “college grads seeking summer jobs.” In June, it will be “teachers laid off for the summer.”
Most people can see through this baloney.

Are we sure this is not a case of lowering expectations so they can claim some kind of victory if they are not that bad. Whatever it is I can tell you, having been looking for a job over a year now, that it is bad out there. Go through a drive through, collage educated burger flippers and accountants running the registers. No one is expanding and when they fill a vacated position there are literally thousands of applicants. I myself have applied for lots of jobs I am clearly over qualified for only to receive a response saying they have better qualified candidates.

Yet the unwashed masses KNOW the truth. My best friend hasn't worked a full week in two months and just got laid off and my next door neighbor just had his power turned off and is living on a gas powered generator.
That constant humming is on my nerves but I understand and will say nothing as it may be ME next month.
We have already been told that layoffs are coming...

If 100,000 people don't get hired because of snow, two facts are certain........
1) The person you were going to hire is not going to be a reliable employee.
2) The job unless filled immediately after the storms was never a viable position in the first place.

Goldman Sachs predicted the economy will lose as many as 100,000 jobs in February due to blizzard-like conditions that kept employers and prospective hires from getting to the office. Whaaaat? Jobs losses because they couldn't hire people? Hiring people would be adding jobs, would it not? Did they fire or lay people off because they couldn't get to the office? Granted, I'm under the influence of medication at the moment so maybe it's just me but, this doens't make sense.
To: Nachum
They forgot all the new jobs created by the snow; shoveler, all the people who make and sell shovels, snow-blowers, etc, people who make a sell and winter sports stuff.

A manifestation of the public sector influence on Goldman Sachs. Only in the public sector do offices shut down and workers employees call in en masse. Those of us in the private sector still have to get to work. And I'm sure most of the unemployed with bills to pay would not let the snow keep them from getting to a job interview, and a private sector business with positions to fill still needs them filled, snow or no.

Are we sure this is not a case of lowering expectations so they can claim some kind of victory if they are not that bad. That's what I think is happening. The government is already hiring the (temp) census workers, so I can't see any reason for overall jobless numbers to have gone up in February.
Whatever it is I can tell you, having been looking for a job over a year now, that it is bad out there.
I hope you find something.

all the people who make and sell shovels, snow-blowers, etc, people who make a sell and winter sports stuff. All those jobs have been moved to other countries that don't tax at anything near the rate the US does and they aren't hostile to manufacturing companies like the US is.

I know what you mean.
My Son works for a national cartridge refilling company. In better times, their applicants would be high school graduates and the like. In the last year, many of them have come from former John Deere and Alcoa workers - people who were making $20 or more an hour and are college educated.
I think it's a lot worse than most people realize.
