Blizzard of bad jobs news to hit Friday
The Hill ^ | 3/3/10 | Ian Swanson

The White House is bracing for an ugly unemployment report on Friday that is expected to be worse because of the three winter storms that hit the East Coast last month.

Goldman Sachs predicted the economy will lose as many as 100,000 jobs in February due to blizzard-like conditions that kept employers and prospective hires from getting to the office.

A manifestation of the public sector influence on Goldman Sachs. Only in the public sector do offices shut down and workers employees call in en masse. Those of us in the private sector still have to get to work. And I'm sure most of the unemployed with bills to pay would not let the snow keep them from getting to a job interview, and a private sector business with positions to fill still needs them filled, snow or no.

Let me see if I have this right. February blizzards froze hiring, March winds blew away hiring, April showers will rain out hiring and May allergies to flowers will sneeze away hiring.

Well, at least it isn’t poor policy that is causing the problem./s

That's brilliant! Send that to Rush Limbaugh.

Are we sure this is not a case of lowering expectations so they can claim some kind of victory if they are not that bad.

That's what I think is happening. The government is already hiring the (temp) census workers, so I can't see any reason for overall jobless numbers to have gone up in February.

Whatever it is I can tell you, having been looking for a job over a year now, that it is bad out there.

I hope you find something.

This is the worst economy since the great depression by far and it is not getting better.

I been in real estate for a long time and right now is worse than ever!

This is not just some set of numbers, it is about real people. And what is this bunch in D.C doing. Knashing their teeth about a HCR Bill that doesn’t even take effect immediately. What a nightmare.

I hold commucrats and the entire Obamination administration responsible for this and I don't know if we as a country can survive another three years of this crap.

You’re right, unfortunately. I can’t tell you the number of highly educated, previously successful people I know who have not been able to find work. It’s horrible.

all the people who make and sell shovels, snow-blowers, etc, people who make a sell and winter sports stuff.

All those jobs have been moved to other countries that don't tax at anything near the rate the US does and they aren't hostile to manufacturing companies like the US is.

Go through a drive through, collage educated burger flippers and accountants running the registers

I know what you mean.

My Son works for a national cartridge refilling company. In better times, their applicants would be high school graduates and the like. In the last year, many of them have come from former John Deere and Alcoa workers - people who were making $20 or more an hour and are college educated.

I think it's a lot worse than most people realize.

Interestingly when talking about the housing crisis, they never mention the realtors, home improvement industry, etc etc etc that is supported by that industry.

The lack of knowledge in this admin is freightening.

The AFL-CIO is going to use this news to call for a new round of stimulus funds/jobs bill for their union members, according to Stuart Varney on FOX.

The One has nothing to worry about. The media will just forget to broadcast the jobs report for February.

Or, if I have a snow day on Thursday, then I reschedule the interview for Friday.

This is BS of the highest magnitude. It's easily exposed, if 100,000 jobs were lost (or whatever) due to bad weather in February, then there should be a corresponding bump up in March when the weather clears up.

I'm not holding my breath that anyone in the MSM is actually going to pay attention, though.

It’s funny how snow shut down D.C. for a week, yet no government jobs were lost. Go figure.

I thought that it was interesting that during the snowstorms "only essential government personnel" needed to come in...and hundreds of thousands stayed home.

If there are that many nonessential people, the powers that be could very easily swing a BIG layoff axe.

Just sayin'. Not that anything along those lines will ever happen....
