Ah, no.

It had more to do with the Barnett Shale play than your last name.

Some folks need to get a grip.

Defeated by a 12-1 vote? I know nothing about this, but you don’t lost that big unless there’s a reason.

The fact that Carillo is even playing the “ethnicity” card in public is justification for him losing the race!

Sounds like he took his stereotype and ran with it.

No. He outspent his opponent 12-1 and still lost.

It wasn’t a 12-1 vote. That figure referred to campaign funds spent.

Does anyone have the final vote total?

This result astonished me, and it’s a shame.

Pretty much.
Thank heavens he lost. No room for race hustlers in the Republican Party.

I’m on JD Hayworth’s Facebook page and McLame’s minions are throwing up the race card all over it.

Yeah, right. and that Hispanic surname is really f**king up Marco Rubio’s campaign also.

Well, perhaps he ran unopposed the first time around (I'm too lazy to research it), but since he is the current Railroad Commissioner, I'd say it's possible for one with a Hispanic surname to become the Railroad Commissioner.

Michael Williams (black gentleman) managed to get himself elected Railroad Commissioner handily.

Sorry, pal, your racecard has been declined.

Yep:

Victor G. Carrillo - Incumbent REP 199,849 40.13% 474,096 39.27%
David Porter REP 298,102 59.86% 732,892 60.72%

He might have a point here, however his whining about it tells me the voters made the right choice!

Carrillo is a very conservative RR commissioner and Williams was elected the first time before most of the state knew he was black. I never saw a picture in his literature.

BTW he is also a fine Commissioner and needs a good look for Senate, now or in 2012.

Not until he was defeated! The railroad commissioner is one powerful position in Texas, some say 2nd to the governor.
They actually control the transportation of oil in the state, which until the election of O’Dumbo when oil became a useless polluter (sarcasm on).

Sometimes Texans get a bit turned off by someone who spends so much money to win a race.

Yeah, that was a shock. I don’t know the reason for Carillo’s landslide loss. However, we had a Hispanic on the ballot for one of the Supreme Court races, and she won handily (although her opponent was Hispanic, too). I am concerned, of course, that the TX GOP does still lack for having more substantial numbers of Hispanic elected officials, and that will cost us in the long run if we can’t change that around. Contrast that with FL where Hispanics are more represented in the GOP than in the Democrat party.
