Thirty-seven children have been killed in a stampede at a temple in India.

The youngsters' bodies, together with those of 27 women, have been recovered by police in Kunda, Uttar Pradesh.

A stampede broke out as thousands of people jostled each other to get free clothes and utensils being distributed during a religious ceremony.

An under-construction gate collapsed on the crowd as people surged forward towards a local holy man, police said.

It's like "oboma money." They heard the word "free."

All those kids are dead so mom could get a free frying pan? How sad is that?

This from the BBC:

At least 140 people have died in a stampede at a Hindu temple in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.

A rain shelter on the mountain path to the temple collapsed, triggering rumours of a landslide.

Many of the victims were children, trampled to death during the panic. Fifty more people were hurt and are being treated in hospital.

Tens of thousands of devotees had been gathering to celebrate the annual nine-day festival of Shravan Navratras.

An investigation is now under way into the incident at the Nainadevi temple, in the Bilaspur district, about 160km (100 miles) from the Himalayan hill town of Shimla.

“Thirty-seven children have been killed in a stampede at a temple in India.”

“A stampede broke out as thousands of people jostled each other to get free clothes and utensils being distributed during a religious ceremony.”

When a society values “things” more than childrens lives, they will never rise above where they are in life, nor will they deserve to. Paying attention America?

It seems that for countless decades in India it's either a religious ceremony, a monstrous train wreck or an overloaded ferry sinking that thins the herd.

Do you think they'll EVER learn to avoid crowds?

I guess its typical that the two posted stories are radically different. I think I believe the second one. The first one sounds more like Detroit.

I guess the 27 women who died were just an afterthought for the writer of the article?

That may not be so easy. Per Wiki:

"India, officially the Republic of India (Hindi: भारत गणराज्य Bhārat Gaṇarājya; see also other Indian languages), is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second-most populous country, and the most populous democracy in the world."
