JERUSALEM, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Tuesday said that the United States should take unilateral moves against Iran like its embargo on Cuba in order to curb the Islamic republic's nuclear pursuit.

Dubbing Iran "the main threat to world peace," Lieberman told his visiting New Zealand counterpart Murray McCully that "he believes that from now on Israel must change its policies concerning Iran, and should request that the United States adopt the Cuban sanctions model that has already proven its effectiveness and is strong enough to strangle and overthrow the Iranian regime," according to a statement from Lieberman's office.

The top Israeli diplomat added that "while consensus and extensive agreement are important, in the end, the important thing is stopping the Iranian nuclear program, and within the framework of the Cuban model, the United States is able to do it alone."

Lieberman also expressed concern about the developments in the international arena, which he said showed a lack of clear understanding as to where and when to take decisive steps.

The U.S. government has kept in place a partial embargo on Cuba since early 1960s, which has long been under fire as critics accuse the ban of preventing the Cuban population from obtaining adequate supplies including food, clean water and medicine.

The Israeli government has been calling upon the international community to impose crippling sanctions upon Iran, which Israel and the United States accuse of secretly developing nuclear weapons. Iran has categorically denied the charge, insisting that its nuclear development is purely for civilian purposes.

Earlier Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned during a meeting of a powerful parliamentary committee that the international community is moving too slowly to follow Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons.

This reminds one of the situation prior to WW2; to this day, many pretend no one knew what Hitler was up to.

What an amazing coincidence that nowadays the international community also bungles and make excuses providing Iran with time to build weapons and arm their allies.

Israel, it’s -way to late- to wait for sanctions. Please ignore the US government and do what must be done; for the good of all of us! Please.
