Tom Brokaw Sniffs: Public is 'Very Confused' About Obamacare
Newsbusters ^ | 3/4/10 | Geoffrey Dickens (

NBC's Tom Brokaw, in searching for a reason as to why Obamacare faced so much opposition, on Thursday's Today show, determined it was because the people can't quite grasp it, as he sniffed: "The public is very confused." The former NBC Nightly News anchor, on to promote his CNBC documentary about the Baby Boom generation, also told Today co-anchor Matt Lauer that the GOP was fighting the current version of the health care bill for merely "political" and not principled reasons and depicted the uninsured as victims to the now powerful tea party.[audio available here]

For his part, a bewildered Lauer expressed disbelief at the unpopular state of the Democratic Party right now as he questioned Brokaw:

"Could you have imagined that a year later the President's popularity numbers would be dwindling, the Democratic Party would be reeling and they'd be justifiably nervous about the midterm elections?"

The following exchange was aired on the March 4 Today show:

MATT LAUER: Let's move on to health care, another subject that's a lightning rod. The President now says he'll go it alone with the Democrats in the Senate and, and in the House, this reconciliation idea. You only need 51 votes. But it's not clear whether he has those votes.

Yeah - but I don’t know how to spell some of those long words - but his personality and delivery remind me of a donkey for some reason.

Hey Tom, you are looking very foolish. The American people think this bill stinks. Our eyes are wide open, shame yours are not.

Geesh, what an idiot he is.

TRI CARE FOR LIFE This from a google search:

http://economicspolitics.blogspot.com/2009/05/tricare-for-life-is-obama-trying-to.html

This option would help reduce the costs of TFL, as well as costs for Medicare, by introducing minimum out-of pocket requirements for beneficiaries. Under this option, TFL would not cover any of the first $525 of an enrollee’s cost-sharing liabilities for calendar year 2011 and would limit coverage to 50 percent of the next $4,725 in Medicare cost sharing that the beneficiary incurred. (Because all further cost sharing would be covered by TFL, enrollees could not pay more than $2,888 in cost sharing in that year.) http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/99xx/doc9925/12-18-HealthOptions.pdf

By Rick Maze - Staff writer, Oct 7, 2009

Tricare fee increases imposed last week by the Defense Department will be repealed by a provision of the compromise 2010 defense authorization bill unveiled Wednesday by House and Senate negotiators.

The fee increases were announced on Sept. 30 and took effect on Oct. 1, but the defense bill, HR 2647, includes a provision barring any fee increases until the start of fiscal 2011.

Retired Army Maj. Gen. Bill Matz, president of the National Association for Uniformed Services, said the announcement of fee increases was shocking considering that the Obama administration promised earlier this year to hold off on any new fee Tricare fee increases until fiscal 2011.

“President Obama and DoD assured NAUS and the entire military family earlier this year that there would rightly be no increases in any Tricare fees” in fiscal 2010, Matz said. “We took them at their word, and I can’t believe that a co-pay increase like this was allowed to go forward,” he added.

Wasn’t it Tom, during the campaign that said he was a little confused because we “really don’t know much about Obama?”

FUTB.

Know what Obamacare will mean for me?

I am self-employed and I buy my own insurance (with after-tax dollars, which is a disgrace in itself, but I digress). I pay around $320 a month for a high-deductible policy. I'm (touch wood) in good health, don't smoke/drink/take drugs, and I'm happy enough with it.

Under Obamacare, such high-deductible policies are illegal.

Under Obamacare, my policy would be bumped up to include everything: Doctor visits, prescription drugs, etc., all from the first dollar. Of course, my rate would be much higher. I'd be paying double what I pay now, in the mid-$600s a month.

I cannot afford this.

Obamacare would give me the choice between a) paying $7200 a year for insurance or $1000 a year for no insurance. Or going to jail for paying none of the above.

Let me sum up: I am a currently insured person who will be made uninsured because of Obamacare.

As if we needed more proof of the liberal bias in broadcast news, Brokaw demonstrates just how socialistic he is. How many years did he mislead the American people? He may write about the greatest generation, but he is certainly not part of it.

Brokaw is a confused stooge who needs his ass kicked until he isn't confused any more.

Maybe five 5 minute rounds in the octagon with Brock Lesnar would do the trick, huh?
