House doesn’t clean itself

Charlie Rangel’s decision to temporarily step aside as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee does not signify an end to his ethics woes. More important, it doesn’t mean the House is finally taking ethics seriously.

Rangel is just the latest poster child for misconduct: Not a season goes by without at least one member of Congress ducking down halls to dodge reporters’ questions about ethical transgressions. Indeed, even in this case, four other members took exactly the same Caribbean trip for which Rangel has been admonished, but were let off the hook.

In a decision that defies logic, the Ethics Committee cleared Rangel’s colleagues on the theory they had learned corporations were sponsoring the trip only once they had arrived on the island — while Rangel’s staff (at least) knew beforehand.

The Democratic Party has ALWAYS been the party of corruption. But since they are “populists,” they are always forgiven by the media/populace because they are “well-intended.” Translation: they give away everything for “free.”

Not only are the Democrats the main corrupters but they are also the main liars. They accuse the Republicans of doing what they are doing and the media dutifully go after the Republicans and ignore the Democrats.

I am under no illusions that Republicans like Hastert and Delay, “Duke” Cunningham, etc aren’t corrupt and use the government for their own honey pots.

BUT the media/populace is vicious towards them and not Pelosi, Rangel, Obama, Reid and the massively corrupt Democrats.

I’ve been hearing that under House rules there is no temporary step down; when someone steps down it’s permanent. Does anyone know for sure?

I for one “don’t think BOTH parties, of every political stripe don’t do the same”, I think both parties DO do the same, the Democrats just do a LOT more of it.

By the way you may want to watch those double negatives a little closer, I think your post actually says the opposite of what you meant. I can’t say that for an absolute certainty because I am not a mind reader but that is the way it appears.
