One Person's Trash is the Government's Treasure (Know a country by the way it treats its garbage)

Not long ago a story about the Labor Party's secret plan to monitor and tax it's citizens garbage would have been an amusing anecdote about those wacky Brits and their far left government. In those happy days before our government was seized by Comrades Pelosi, Reid and Obama, we were secure in the knowledge that such things could never happen here.

The UK Daily Mail reports that.

More than 2.5 million homes now have wheelie bins fitted with microchips to weigh their contents.

[...]

The spread of chipped bins marks the revival of a tax idea that the Government appeared to have abandoned last year.

Gordon Brown promised to ditch trash bin taxes in the spring of 2008, at a point when the unpopularity among voters of fortnightly collections, strict bin rules, and the threat of pay-as-you-throw was at its height.

The increased deployment of the secret trash bin microchips has been tracked by the group Big Brother Watch and according to Alex Deane.

‘Councils are waiting until the public aren't watching to begin surveillance on our waste habits, intruding into people's private lives and introducing punitive taxes on what we throw away. The British public doesn't want this technology, these fines, or this intrusion.'

‘If local authorities have no intention to monitor our waste then they should end the surreptitious installation of these bin microchips.'

The campaign group complained that the bins allow councils to examine household rubbish and sell the information to commercial concerns as well as to impose taxes.

It also warned that collection of data from chipped bins could show when households were on holiday, opening the way to abuse by criminals.

[...]

Tory local government spokesman Caroline Spelman said: ‘Labour Ministers are secretly planning to roll out bin taxes across the country after the election if Gordon Brown can cling to power.

Our friends in Europe already have a Value Added Tax (VAT), Carbon Taxes and Offsets, Socialized Medicine and all of the abuses, inefficiencies and corruption that go with them. Instead of embracing American exceptionalism and celebrating the freedoms that have made us the envy on the world, future former President Obama and his allies in congress and the MSM want to remake our nation in the European Socialist mold.

In Nancy Pelosi's San Francisco, throwing out a greasy pizza box is just fine...oooops, I mean it just gets you a fine, but no jail time (yet).

Control freaks on the march. What *is* it about some people wanting to control every aspect of others’ lives?

What *is* it about some people wanting to control every aspect of others’ lives?

Read Mark Levin's "Liberty and Tyranny". He answers that very question. Excellent book.

Now that I think of it, this would be a GREAT jobs program. Think of all the added litter and the people needed to pick it up.

The democrat's power grab will become more desperate as they look for more ways to steal our money. The government piggy bank is empty because it has to pay out a lot more then it takes in. We can't expect them to cut spending since that goes directly against their strategy of using tax payer money to buy votes. They are on a collision course with the productive citizens they continue to steal from.

I used to live in a town that had pay as you go. At first I hated it but the more I recycled the less I had to pay. I ended up getting my trash bill down to $6\month. In my current town I’m paying over $30 for a single wheelie bin twice a week.
