US first lady Michelle Obama kicks a ball as she attends a free soccer clinic Photo: REUTERS Mrs Obama's participation in a football clinic in Washington coincided with the announcement of a new partnership between the US Soccer Foundation and the National Alliance for Hispanic Health. The groups are launching a 25-city tour to provide children and their families with free health screenings and soccer clinics.
The scheme is part of the first lady's "Let's Move" anti-obesity effort. Last month she launched a campaign to promote healthy living among childen, and was showing off her footballing skills to encourage children to exercise for an hour a day as part of her campaign.
Mrs Obama said soccer gets people moving and their hearts beating.

Damn, these people are cheap....
Damn, these people are cheap....
WoW.....such an important statement. Does anyone really care what this classless person says?
Michellee Obama and her physical fitness, keep fit,eat well agenda is really, really getting on my nerves.
I almost feel sorry for Barack.
So does a cattle prod, lol.
In America it’s called “soccer” because in America we have a real game that’s called “football”. In Europe where they either have soccer or wars, they don’t have football but they call soccer ‘football’. Except the brits that also have rugby which just isn’t really a sport as much as it is a bunch of guys beating each other up and a ball is thrown in there with them so that they can just hammer on anyone who tries to get the ball.
Only hispanic children need apply?

I wonder if BO ever gets visions of Patrick Ewing when he crawls into bed with that?
That has got to be the best summation of those sports I've
ever heard.
Really? Soccer gets you moving? Thanks, Michelle! /sarc
Thanks, I like your screen name. Keep watching the sonar.
Along these lines, a better summation would be:
soccer = sissy American football
American football = sissy rugby
Thank Walter Camp, the man who added too many rules to and pussified rugby in the late 1800s, creating American football.
Seems that you do.
Nope....just wanted to answer the original post. Ever break down the word “assume”?
Hmmmn, It seems I can remember ‘chelle and her fat daughters(her words, not mine) over in Britain stuffing on milkshakes, fries and fatburgers. Is it just me, ot do I sense a whole lot of hypocrisy?
I use to play rugby in college. That’s the best definition of rugby I have ever heard.
I would modify one of your definitions:
American Football = rugby without blatant violence
In England, they say that soccer is a gentleman’s game played by rowdies, and rugby is a hooligan’s game played by gentlemen. Or is it the other way ‘round? I could never get those straight. Anyway, Leeds United USED to rule!
Michelle is 1st lady for more than a year...finally finds something in America to be proud of...has NOTHING to do with healthcare reform...hhhmmmmmmmmm
Rugby League. Played and watched by workers
Soccer. Played and watched by yobs.
I knew it was something like that. Thanks for straightening me out, OZBOY.
Let’s remember that Michelle’s brother, Craig Robinson, is the basketball coach at Oregon State University. The Beavers are near the bottom of the league, but they have managed a few conference victories. I hope that the University of Washington Huskies can beat them at their home court on Saturday night, but it is by no means a gimme. If Obama has any connection to the legitimate heartland of America, this is the only one I can think of.
She is coming into the age where her rather large behinder is going to get larger if she is not careful.
