Indications show that the Give a Day, Get a Disney Day promotion, which encouraged volunteerism with the prospect of free admission to a Disney theme park, is coming to an end.
Last month, the company boasted that it had amassed more than 600,000 volunteers in the first six weeks of the program, which began Jan. 1, 2010.
We have been overwhelmed by the response, said Tom Staggs, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.
When the program was annouced to the public last fall, Disney said it would distribute tickets to the first 1 million to complete their service. At the volunteer celebration last month, there were no signs that the program would be extended past that mark.
Now, the HandsOn Network, which has partnered with Disney to match volunteers with volunteer opportunities, has sent an email to organization coordinators saying that it expects the program to end very soon.

Why is that? They're giving a prize for people that are "volunteering" their time and service. Try it without the prize and see how overwhelmed they are.
They funded the “give a day volunteer program” by no longer offering Active Duty military a free ticket. Something they’ve been doing for years...apparently military service doesn’t “measure up” to the volunteer requirements to merit a free ticket... A friend of mine called and asked Disney.
Disney is libtard central.
If you’re getting a free day at Disney for volunteering, then how is that considered volunteerism?
I was once told they charge admission because it's the only way they have of controlling crowds. Without charging a pretty hefty admission they would never be able to handle the crowds and no one would have a good time. As it is they just raise the admission until it results in attendance matching what they feel they can handle. They have it down to a science. The last thing they want is a HUGE crowd, so big that they can't handle it and no one has a good time.
Busch Gardens here in Tampa still offers free admission for military and their family. And they seem quite happy to do it.
I have not been to Disney for a couple of years now. Last time I went it was not a fun time. Way too many people, way too expensive and much to much walking for an old fart like me. 20 years ago I kept an annual pass to the Disney and Epcot, but it got to be such a hassle getting over there and getting in, and especially getting out at the end of the day, that I just let it lapse.
I noticed in my last visit that they have nowhere nearly as many employees now as they did years ago. And my daughter had a complaint about they way the tickets were charged for online ahead of time, but they wanted to hear none of it. Their attitude was they didn't need her business and if she was going to be picky or demanding then she could just go to Sea World!
Our babysitter was just telling us about this last night. Her mom’s Pregnancy Help Center was participating. I like that idea— getting a free trip to Disneyland for helping a pro-life organization.
Dang, I hope it is over. Too many people there now.
Parking? Who parks to go to WDW? We always ride the buses or boats or monorail, but, then again, we stay on property.
I’ll let you folks know when we do our two weeks in May how busy it is.
I’m sad to say that I think that some people are doing it just for the reward.
Are you a Lightning fan by any chance? I’m not too far from the city.
Maybe if I understood the rules a bit better. One more year like last year and I might just be trading in my Bucs gear for Lightning stuff!
