How Tom Hanks Became America's Historian in Chief (Leftist rewrites history)
Time ^ | 3/6/2010 | Douglas Brinkley

Posted on 03/06/2010 10:05:05 AM PST by jimbo123

To the young Tom Hanks, history was as dull as an algebra equation. For Hanks — a classic baby boomer, born in 1956 — World War II was just a string of long-ago muzzle flashes in black-and-white. Yet he did have a more direct connection to the global cataclysm. His father had been a U.S. Naval mechanic (second class) in World War II. But Amos Hanks wasn't the type to tell his son tales of bravery and sacrifice. "Growing up, I always knew Dad was somewhere in the Pacific fixing things," Hanks says. "He had nothing nice to say about the Navy. He hated the Navy. He hated everybody in the Navy. He had no glorious stories about it."

-snip-

Back in World War II, we viewed the Japanese as 'yellow, slant-eyed dogs' that believed in different gods. They were out to kill us because our way of living was different. We, in turn, wanted to annihilate them because they were different. Does that sound familiar, by any chance, to what's going on today?"

We, in turn, wanted to annihilate them because they were different.

No, dummy. We annihilated them because A) they warred on us first, and B) they insisted upon it.

The marines learned very early, at the battle of Alligator Creek on Guadalcanal, that treating Japanese soldiers by the rules of war very often had fatal consequences.

Well...and there was that whole 3,000 dead Americans thing in Pearl Harbor...

“Does that sound familiar, by any chance, to what’s going on today?””

Yep. Except then we didn’t have assholes like you around.

I was looking forward to this series, but now I’m afraid I shouldn’t. Sounds like the war in the pacific will get the PC revision treatment.

OMG..Yet another stupid Dummie trying to spread Anti-American Propaganda.

The American people should stop supporting them with ticket sales or viewership.

Give them a good lesson in supply and demand economics.

My wonder is that anyone would expect anything more from a Hollywood hack.I don’t expect them to know any factual history, and I don’t expect them to be patriots. I’m never disappointed. They can expect to never get a red cent from me to watch any of their tripe, not when it’s newly released, not when it does to DVD or cable. I know they’re not losing any sleep over it, but I do what I can.

I went out with a young women just before I got out of the Army. Her father was captured on Bataan, he was thankful he had no sons and disapointed that we only had two A-Bombs.

Slant eyed heathen was a mild term for him.

Exactly. Even the left in Hollywood ion those days were at least patriotic (as far as anybody knew). Their careers would’ve sunk like a stone if they’d been open traitors, unlike these days.

I will never understand why these idiots don’t keep their opinions to themselves and just rake in their money.

I guess Hanks has so much money, he feels he can do as he pleases.

Nothing, and I mean NOTHING that that the American military did to the Japaneses and the Germans compares to the Rape of Nan king, the Bataan Death March, the Holocaust, the atrocities committed on the Russians by the Germans or for that manner the on the Germans by the Russians.

This BS review of history comes from people who Know nothing and whose only exposure to history comes from the writings of the likes of Howard Zinn.

America is so wealthy and powerful in economics, military and culture that most everyone who lives here, particularly the elite, have a skewed view of the World.

I’ll think he’s doing some off-season PR for the left, getting ready for the WWII revisionist season that seems to come every August. He’s probably going to narrate or produce something for them. Betcha.

I don't patronize their films either. Part of watching a movie requires one to buy into the actor being the character they are portraying. When they're such idiots publicly it makes it very hard to suspend thinking that such and such an idiot is playing X role instead of just watching the performance.

And to be honest, Hollywood has created such unmitigated trash lately that I attend less than one movie per year. I've seen one movie in the last 2 years I believe....it was one of the Harry Potter movies and that was back around July of 2009.

If we had assholes like him around after Pearl Harbor, they wouldn’t be working in Hollywood. I don’t think they’d be working anywhere at all.

I guess Tom Hanks missed that ol rape of China thing, the Bataan Death March, and lets not forget the medical, biological, and weapons experimentation on prisoners, both civilian and POW.

But do a Google on Japanese concentration camps and you come up with nothing but American internment of Japanese!

Tom Hanks, we want to kill them before they kill us, not because they are different. Period. That is their only goal, to kill as many of us as possible for their Allah.

>Not so long ago movie stars were handsome.<

And kept their follish mouths shut. In the “olden days” at least they had something of an education, thus some self restraint. Now-a-days they’ve all had a Feducation. Unfortunately the ideology spills over into all areas for the “me” generation. Today acting is said to be an art. In the really old days it was entertainment. Now it iseems to be an avenue for political opinion. Hanks has thus gone from one of my favorites to my least favorite. Incidentally, I have not watchd the Oscars for years.

Movies help when they are substantiated....since I was
there in the Pacific during the war....I still have
some basic visions of the battles and the war itself...
but the varied reactions to the war changes as the years
go on. I was young and innocent..but it was a big
part of ones life then and is more so as one
reflects on the lifelong impact that it has made on the
lives of many thousands. JJK
