Chelsea Clinton, daughter of President Bill Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton will not be having a traditional Christian wedding but are planning a Jewish wedding since her future husband, Marc Mexvinsky is Jewish.

The bride and groom announced their wedding in November and are just now talking openly about the groom’s Jewish religion. Much of the talk that is circulating is coming from Jewish Community Centers who are looking eagerly to having a member of President Bill Clinton’s family join their Community. The talk might have started since gossip is that Chelea has been looking for a Jewish rabbi to perform the ceremony.

My thought was that it’s another political marriage just like her parents’ marriage, that it’s designed to innoculate Hillary against her well-known, antisemitic outbursts in the past, and that she’s going to run again.

In the usual case, the wedding is about the bride. The bride’s religion usually determines the ceremony. In my case, my wife is Jewish, so I was married by a rabbi.

If the groom picks the ceremony, that suggests a bride who has very little attachment to her religion. Given that the Clintons go around bringing up their faith whenever it is convenient to do so, that is interesting.

If Hilary runs for president, I think a fair question would be:

1. Did you raise your daughter a Christian, and it just didn’t take, or...

2. Is your whole profession of faith pretty much a sham?

The first would be a fair answer, at which further inquiries would be impolite. If it was the second, I think the votes have a right to know that. After all, if a politician professes a type of faith, that tells us something about them. If they have no faith, that tells us something else.
