Obama’s first in a line of liberal-class submarines for our ‘sensitive’ Navy.

On a serious note, here is additional specific information:

Military.com

Besides the incoming officers from the academy, the first women submariners will include female supply corps officers at the department head level, Roughead said. The change will be phased in over time to include enlisted female Sailors on the SSBN and SSGNs, he said. Women will be added to the Navy's SSN fast-attack submarines after necessary modifications can be determined, he said.

If the feeling is that the women are straight, then everyone will try to bed them. Those who are not lucky will be a little put off, maybe. And if these woman are gay, they will be resented, and the men will be putting up with someone who goes out of their way to compete with men on men’s terms —a strange experience.

Some ideas are so stupid only intellectuals can believe them (Lenin said that).

I don’t support mixed-sex crews on submarines but I am wondering about all-women sub crews? Has any navy, including our own, ever tried that? If so how well did it work out (or not)?

When surrounded by seamen 24/7, what happens to the planned mission if soon after leaving port the female finds that she is pregnant?

Give them their own sub. If they go down because their too weak to do “damage control,” then so be it. But, integrating women and men on subs, myself having done many patrols on subs, is a very very bad idea...more for psychological and social reasons than any others.

Just the pheromones from females should be enough reason to keep them off a sub. Even HEPA filters don’t remove those.

It will drive the men crazy, exactly what you do not need on a sub....especially a nuc.

I thought Submariners were the best of the best. Not some damned social experimant?
Well let’s see, we need 11 females, 12 blacks, 5 latinos, and 26 white folks and 3 asians or else this isn’t gonna go?
Horse manure.

Women will be added to the Navy's SSN fast-attack submarines after necessary modifications can be determined, he said.

Modifications? Let's see, a Boomer (yes, I know), spends roughly 180 days under the water. That's six month to the DU trolls reading this thread. Six months...hmmm, a pregnancy and premee (pre mature birth) could happen...what "modifications," are they talking about?

My grandparents, who’ve all been gone quite a number of years, would sh!t if they were to come back and see what’s become of our fine country and our ethics. I’m glad they don’t have to live through this. It’s practically killing my dad anyway.

I see. Brilliant idea: Women want to be integrated into a phallic object, and men in nuclear pressure cookers need disturbing distractions. Makes sense to me.

I wonder how detailed the “Rules of Engagement” will be on such ships . . .

‘Course, the military is no longer expected to win wars anyway, but to protect civilians in the countries of our enemies.

I’m frankly glad they’re undermining our military these days, given that the current powers think people like me are the real enemy.

I simply cannot fathom being 500 ft below water on a sub and having to work along side a female OTR and no escape.........

What happens if a coed sub goes down in battle or during practice maneuvers because of the distraction posed by women?
