WASHINGTON (Associated Press) -- President Barack Obama ratcheted up his attacks against insurance companies Monday in a last-ditch attempt to get a reluctant public and skittish Democrats behind his health overhaul legislation.

Obama contended that insurers have calculated that they'll make more money by denying coverage to some and jacking up rates on others.

What’s really interesting about all this: WHERE ARE THE REBUTTALS FROM THE INSURANCE EXECUTIVES? Why isn’t anyone interviewing them??????????????????????????????????????? Or is there some kind of “gag-me order”?

The media doesn’t want to hear their rebuttals, and the insurance companies might be afraid of the repercussions should this health care bill pass.

So is this what this whole year has been about: insurance regulations? Why does that take 2700 pages of a bill?

"Obama contended that insurers have calculated that they'll make more money by denying coverage to some and jacking up rates on others."

Insurance companies have been really quite about Obama. Oh that's right... Obama is giving them 30 million mandated new customers.

I’ve been wondering if the insurance companies actually want this bill? The individual mandate means millions more new customers who are (for the most part) young and healthy.

Shouldn't he only be targeting the insurance companies that provide health insurance ? His statements blankets the entire insurance industry...which brings the 182 billion bailout of AIG in play.

If insurance companies are so evil, why bail them out ?

The statement was made about the handful of for-profit corporations out there. Most people with health insurance get it from non-profit corporations.

Recently Kaiser-Permanente, a big player in guiding the aim of the new legislation, raised its individual premiums 20%.

They are a non-profit. So why did they raise individual premiums? They didn't raise group premiums! Actually, looking at my paystub it looks like they DROPPED Kaiser rates for government employees and retirees.

You can imagine what would happen if the federales all discovered that THEIR policies are going up as soon as Obama strips the individual policy people out of the business.

That's going to happen because those individual policy holders will go somewhere and will not be paying extortionate rates to Kaiser and other non-profits.

The revenue loss will then be made up on the backs of the retirees!

How much do illegal immigrants impact health insurance premiums? Why are we importing poverty in the form of LEGAL immigration, i.e., 1.2 million annually?

34 percent of immigrants lack health insurance, compared to 13 percent of natives. Immigrants and their U.S.-born children account for 71 percent of the increase in the uninsured since 1989.

Attacking insurance companies? Who could have guessed he would go there? Funny, attacking insurance companies is all he knows how to do; that and banks. If you were an “intrepid reporter” you might ask why he keeps attacking companies who have already agreed to the deal? But that would be expecting honesty from ivy leaguer reporters. That too is funny.

Insurance companies are not an arm of 0's government. They have to make a profit or they are out of business. If o'bozo is serious about this Everybody's the Same bullchit, does he intend to require insurance companies to continue insuring drivers convicted or repeated D.U.I? How about demanding that teenage males/females drivers have the same premium rate? Make the evil insurance companies charge the same fire insurance rates for wooden construction as they do for brick.

Insurance is all about difference.

0 and his band of merry-morons need to understand what they are trying to change.

I’d trust an insurance company before I’d trust the government.

Sure, but with the Socialist Plan, we'll provide free medical coverage to the losers, welfare queens, illegal aliens, etc., and make others pay for it PLUS cut the coverage for everyone !

What a plan !

AS it stands right now, the insurance companies stand to benefit from this bill. In the short term they are counting on the bill forcing us to buy insurance from them. They stand to make billions till the govt. finally takes over. By that time they will have made their money and run.

i’d rather deal with an insurance company any day instead of dealing with the federal government.
