Conservative opponents of the Obama administration are urging supporters to resist the upcoming US census, saying it asks too many questions and reflects increasing government intrusion into private matters.
The census, held every 10 years since 1790, is becoming a focal point for the growing anti-government movement in the US.
The government will endeavour to count every person living in the US, regardless of legal, immigration or citizenship status. The count, which helps determine political representation and the distribution of hundreds of billions of dollars in government funds, is mandated by the constitution.
Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, a virulently conservative, anti-Obama Republican from Minnesota, has urged supporters to give only the number of people living in their household, saying nothing more is required by the constitution. Participation in the census is required by law and to refuse, or to falsify information, is punishable by fines that can range from $100 up to $500 (about £60 to £300), although the law is rarely enforced.

Giving congressional representation to 20 plus million illegal aliens was certainly never the intent, either.

I thought the fines were jacked up to $5000 this year for the census from the $100 fines from 2000.
I got the same stupid letter today in the mail.

Exactly. And in 2000, the Clinton Administration wanted to “estimate” (and include) the “uncounted”.
It isn’t about fearing ALL government (anti-government). It is about preserving the Constitution and the intent of that document.

Why do they want names? any anyway’s if they have the names of the people on the census, they can look up those people and run a property (Title Search)

And there have been connections to liberal religious groups to encourage illegal immigrants to submit the paperwork as well, immigration will not be contacted and cannot see the information for something like 72 years.

Yeah, I know the reasons: to keep our congresspeople and to receive money from the feds. Well, my congressman should be retired...he’s a virtual do-nothing, yes man for the socialists. And most congressmen/women do very little for the pay they get. They’re always on vacation and when they do get together, it’s to impose taxes or otherwise adversely affect the constituents who elected them.
And as for that money from the feds: Well, in my neck of the woods, every time any federal money is sent here, it is squandered. Education? Highways? You gotta be kidding. I bet most of the money winds up in some politicians’ pockets.
I don’t care how short they make the census, it still asks more questions than anyone, particularly the federal government, should know. Sorry...I like my privacy. The answers to the quesitons are none of the government’s business.

I just received a letter from the Commerce Dept, telling me to make sure I fill out (completely) and return my census form as it determines how Big Brother’s goodies will be divvied up!! Not one damned WORD about the actual Constitutional reason for the census—the apportionment of seats. I guess that’s just typical. Must NOT confuse the little people with facts!!!

Name/age of people in household
occupation (not PLACE of work)
race (I put ‘human”
That is ALL that is required by law.
I chased the pseudo census taker from last spring off my property.
If/when a census taker shows up this year, they will NOT cross my threshold. I will treat them kindly - they aren't from the illegal ‘bama brigade of last year - but they will get only the above information. Indeed, I think I will have the info on a file card and hand it to them with a “Have a good day, now.”
