Walmart is raising eyebrows after cutting the price of a black Barbie doll to nearly half of that of the doll's white counterpart at one store and possibly others.
A photo first posted to the humor Web site FunnyJunk.com and later to the Latino Web site Guanabee.com shows packages of Mattel's Ballerina Barbie and Ballerina Theresa dolls hanging side by side at an unidentified store. The Theresa dolls, which feature brown skin and dark hair, are marked as being on sale at $3.00. The Barbies to the right of the Theresa dolls, meanwhile, retain their original price of $5.93. The dolls look identical aside from their color.
Editors at Guanabee.com said the person responsible for the photo told the Web site that it was taken at a Louisiana Walmart store. The person did not return e-mails from ABCNews.com.

My guess, they used racial quotas when ordering Barbies instead of projected demand. To much supply for less demand equals lower prices. The racial miscalculation began with the factory order.

When Walmart has product that doesn’t sale quickly they reduce the price...it’s that simple. Next week they will be on the “bargain aisle” with a red tag on them. It is only then the minority buyers will be on the dolls like bees on watermelons. (if Dan Rather can mention watermelons I can too.)

New black Barbies get mixed reviews
The new black Barbies released by Mattel have fuller lips, curlier hair and other features that the company says more accurately represent African-American women.
Some have cheered the new dolls. Others jeered them, saying they’re not black enough.
“I love the black Barbie. It’s about time,” Jua Simpson said on CNN’s iReport, a user-generated news community. “But the hair is still a step backwards, since most of our hair is not straight and light brown.”
Others disagree with critics who say the dolls should have had more natural black hairstyles, such as afros or braids.
