Conservative media make hero of soap-opera Democrat Eric Massa -- bad politics for Republicans
LATimes ^ | March 09, 2010 | Johanna Neuman

Posted on 03/09/2010 7:48:03 AM PST by maggief

He resigned to duck House Ethics Committee charges that he sexually harassed a male staffer. Then he blamed Democrats in the White House and in Congress for pushing him out because he voted against healthcare reform legislation.

Eric Massa's charges would be laughable if they weren't so lurid -- his latest accusation is that White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel lobbied him on healthcare reform while both were showering in the House gym.

Any opportunity to dump on Emanuel was like catnip for the conservative media, which rushed to embrace the less-than-one-term Democrat from upstate New York. Rush Limbaugh vowed to make a “national story” out of Massa. "He going to have so much support from people,” said the conservative commentator. This despite the fact that Massa once called Limbaugh "a pompous coward."

Now some Republicans are warning their conservative colleagues to do their homework.

"'Conservative hero' my foot," said blogger Michelle Malkin, who called Massa a political opportunist and lifelong progressive zealot. "Crapweasel is too kind a description for the desperate, bottom-feeding Massa," she wrote. "He is not a useful idiot. He’s just an idiot."

The left doesn't seem to grasp it. Massa isn't some hero to the right...he's a rabid leftist himself. The right is just sitting back with some popcorn watching the left eat it's own.

Interesting that the LAT is so concerned about bad politics for republicans. LOL! We all know Massa is a socialist but if we can use him to bash other socialists then that is a good thing. This whole meme that conservatives have been bamboozled by Massa is total garbage.

BINGO!

In reading the LATimes report did I miss mention of Massa on Larry King tonight?

Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. Give him his 15-20-30 minutes of fame.
He will disappear soon enough. HUMMMMM. I wonder if he has received his newspaper with a dead fish yet?

Exactly. The right has been painted by the left as “splintered” and “fractured” for years while the left portrayed themselves as “unified” and “together”. This rep eating his own is just hilarious to watch as it shows that the left doesn’t have all their RATs in a row!

This whole meme that conservatives have been bamboozled by Massa is total garbage.

I'm curious to see how Beck approaches him in his interview today. Beck took heat for holding Brown's victory in MA at arm's-length until he could take the guy's measure. I hope he does the same with Massa -- while inflicting maximum pain to the Dems, of course.

Massa is scum. Conservatives are pointing out that he is scum. Somehow, this equates to “making him a hero”.

The article said nothing about Massa’s accusations — an empty article. Maybe Beck will pull something out of Massa in his interview with him.

http://www.rochestercitynewspaper.com/news/blog/2010/03/Beck-vs-Emanuel-via-Massa/

Eric Massa was the focus of the first half-hour Glenn Beck’s show this morning, which offered a prelude to the former Congress member’s appearance later today on Beck’s Fox News show.

(snip)

The conservative Beck applied a bit of enemy-combatant logic to having the liberal Massa, a Democrat who favors single-payer health care, appear on his talk show. If an Al-Quaeda operative came to the US with intelligence, asked Beck, should we dismiss it just because he’s an enemy? Massa can “testify against the system,” Beck said.

“Is he saying it because it’s true?” Beck said a little later in the program. “I don’t care what his motivations are.”

Beck seems especially interested in what Massa has to say about Rahm Emanuel, President Obama’s aggressive chief of staff. Emanuel figured prominently in Massa’s claim that Democratic leaders are trying to force him out of his seat. He’s also been a de facto whip as Democrats try to pass health care reform legislation.

Beck’s television program this afternoon airs at 5 p.m.

Pretty much. Rush knows exactly who and what Massa is, and is quite happy to use Massa to help kill 0bamacare if he can. Does the LA Times know what they stand for anymore though? Didn't the LA Times and every liberal media outlet rush to embrace every single ex Bush official who came out and trashed Bush after getting sacked?

MSM has its WH talking points ... Massa = conservative political hero.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/dcnow/2010/03/rep-massa-extends-his-15-minutes-of-fame.html

Massa, who has resigned his seat representing New York’s Southern Tier after an ethics scandal, has extended his 15 minutes of fame by becoming a hero to some who oppose President’s Obama’s healthcare plans. Massa is making the cable television rounds.

I have no time for the creep Massa, but then when you are fighting against evil men like 0bama and Emannuel, you have no alternative but to use all the artilery can you can get in an effort to kill country destroying programs lke 0bamacare. I'd say keep Massa on the conservative shows and use him to hammer Rham Emmanuel, 0bozo and Pelosi as long as they keep pushing 0bamacare.

Conservatives were first to report Massa’s Rahm ranting ... MSM wanted to avoid it, IMHO. They waited until Hoyer and Gibbs commented.

If Massa were sincere he would have hung in there and not resigned. I don’t doubt his stories about Rahmbo’s tactics are essentially true. Does not change the fact that he is an unstable personality.

His fate will be like that of General Benedict Arnold. General Arnold managed to evade prosecution in the US for his treason but any notion that he would live his life in Brittan as a hero was a delusion.
The fact is that by switching sides and selling out his country, he lived out the rest of his life being scorned by both sides. He may feel like he is now some kind of hero because of the pseudo-adulation being given to him by the left-winged media. What is pitiful is that he doesn’t realize that he is receiving this temporary reverence as they find him useful in their continual efforts to undermine the Bush administration. He is a useful tool now but he will be viewed with contempt by those same people, just as Arnold was later viewed with contempt by those on the side to which he defected.
“YEA! Haven’t heard from Scott McClellan in a while!!!”

That’s a great point. Good old McClellan. That reminds me of what I wrote on7/29/08 in a piece called “McClellan’s 15 Minutes are Almost up” at http://www.TableOfWisdom.com

“Nobody respects a traitor and they are eventually deemed useless to all sides because “if he did it once (to them) he can do it again (to us)”. Who would trust him? He better milk this book for all it’s worth because he will realize that he has destroyed any future career in politics and if he thinks these new “friends” of his in the media or any publishers are going to take interest in any future books of his - on any other subject matter - he is going to be quite disappointed.”

I think all of us know who and what Massa is. I am with Glenn Beck on this one. Let the man speak.

Massa has confirmed for me what I and others here have suspected already.

I for one am going to turn in. He may or may not show up.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/03/09/hoyer-denies-massa-pushed-health-care-vote/

Massa accused Hoyer of not telling the truth when explaining how the sexual harassment charges were referred to the Ethics Committee.

“Steny Hoyer has never said a single word to me at all, not ever, not once. Not a word. This is a lie. It’s a blatant false statement,” he said.

But during a session with reporters, Hoyer reiterated that he never spoke with Massa about the alleged ethics violations, and signaled his staff spoke with Massa’s staff.

“I didn’t lie,” Hoyer said. “But he’s right. I didn’t talk to him.”
