Mexican officials have confirmed a gun battle outside a busy supermarket in Reynosa.
It all took place at a Soriana supermarket at the corner of Alvaro Obregon and Morelos Boulevards around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Reynosa residents first reported explosions and gunfire on Twitter.
An "incident involving risk" at the same location was quickly confirmed by city officials on their Twitter account.
Authorities gave the all clear message at 2:39 p.m. Tuesday.
No further details but the case remains under investigation.
Must have been a dispute over someone freeloading cheese.
Store owner: “Hey, that’s nacho cheese!”
U.S. Consulate Office in Reynosa Re-Opens
REYNOSA, Tamaulipas, Mexico - The U.S. Consulate Office in Reynosa has re-opened.
The State Department closed the office on February 24 because of the drug violence in the area. Consul General Michael Barkin announced the re-opening yesterday.
The office gives services for U.S. citizens in Reynosa and surrounding communities. It’s open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
Rim -shot!
What a country they have down south. Can you imagine going to your local Albertsons or Ralphs and witnessing a gun battle?
In San Diego maybe they can. Coming to a city near you..!
Mexico has some of the strictest gun laws in the WORLD!
How could there possibly be a gun battle in the streets?!?!!?/s
We had a gun battle one night at a supermarket near a place where I was working in Pennsylvania. Three “yutes” 18 or under went in with masks and BB guns, robbed the store and pistol-whipped a cashier in the process. A gun owning Citizen whose wife was shopping in the store saw this happening and grabbed his gun from the back of his truck. When the little punks emerged from the store he sighted the first one out the door and plugged him between the eyes. His cohorts fled but were later captured. The prosecutor declined to press charges against the armed citizen. That was 13 years ago and the area has been nice and quiet ever since.
"...Confirmed by city officials on their Twitter account..."
Like, OMG, like hopefully none of their like BFF's got hurt.
Chief George Earle: You use these weapons of mass destruction against men and women who uphold the law?!
Edgar Friendly: We use these weapons to shop for groceries...
I love stories with a happy ending!
Sandra Bullock: "Yes, the Schwarzenegger Presidential Library. Wasn't he an actor?"
Uh oh...
Also read this week that 300 Police had been sent to Matamoras to help control things. But - many of their police are corrupted by the drug cartels.
The slowing of tourism plus shopping in the USA is going to hurt Mexico even worse.
.
Exciting shopping day!
It took only nine minutes to steal all the Corona and Dos Equis beer.
The Mexicans always have crossed over to shop here, there are just a lot more of them now. Don’t know about the stealing, lol. Usually they shop as a whole family.
Ummmm, at first I thought maybe you had done your shopping during the day.....lol.
Gave me pause.
.
Sorry
I meant the police reported an all clear after nine minutes
Are the stores open during daytime now?

I didn’t even read that whole article devolve. Just wrote things I knew about. Stores on both sides of the border are usually open until sometimes at night. Don’t know how they are doing in Reynosa now though.
The grocery stores in Progresso are interesting to walk through.
.
It is such a shame that Mexico has become so increasingly dangerous over the years.
Americans would love to safely visit, vacation, shop, engage in more trade and commerce at all levels. They sure do take advantage of Canada - as Canadians do the USA - lots of Canadians travel to and vacation in Florida.
Those of early Spanish descent with farms and ranches on or near the border are often the victims of the violent drug cartels and illegal smuggling.
Have heard some stories about rich people being kidnapped down there and huge ransoms. But you don't hear a lot about it because they are threatened never to tell.
Have to run out to the store soon and don't feel like it!
.
I have heard that the Mexican kidnappers have now actually moved their business up into the USA - Phoenix, Las Vegas, etc.
Sooner or later American citizens will finally do what DC and states and cities have refused to do
Protect themselves and their families, property, jobs, and their country
As the US Constitution demands of of all of our elected and appointed officials - and of the US Military
No delivery there?
[No delivery there?]
Not from a convenience store, lol.
Piper got a ride and he loves that.
People living in ranches along the border are always in danger now.
Forum is slow tonight, I’ve looked at new articles over and over and there are few replies.
They had a shootout at a Wal-Mart in Commerce Sunday.
That article doesn’t begin to tell the tale.
My then wife worked in a store at that mall the very day.
The perps had a ‘warwagon’. A step van armored and full of weapons.
They didn’t care who was in the way of the victim, just started spraying bullets.
One of many incidents. Five executed a mile from my house one day.
A car backfires and you hit the ground.
My BP dropped 15 pts. just moving away.
We moved to Raleigh in ‘84. Couldn’t pay me enough to move back to the ‘drug & thug; capital.
.
Too bad Piper cannot drive a little car to do your errands
It could be worse - you could be walking to the store
My mom had been at Dadeland that day about 3 hours before the hit and exited the mall by the liquor store where victim was killed.
A college roommate’s family moved to Asheville in the early 80’s, except for his older brother who decided to stay in Miami. One day while stopped in traffic during afternoon commute, the driver of the car ahead of him was assassinated by Uzi toting gunman.
The brother drove home, packed his stuff and was living permanently in NC by the next morning.
Two gunman firing through the front windshield from both sides of the car.
An understatement on Mexico if there ever was one.
Wow, I don’t blame him from moving.
My ex worked at Burdines in Dadeland. We lived about 1.5 miles W of there.
It was the wild west down there. Not sure if it still is.
I do miss the water and the Keys but not Miami or surrounding area.
Paradise ended with the riots of 1980. It was all downhill from there.
Said who??
