Americans seem to want them but can the Republicans deliver? (2012 GOP nomination)

The race for the Republican Party's presidential nomination has started, though the election itself is 32 months away. Even in a place so brash and up-front as the United States there is some subtlety, at least at this stage, about the process. Sarah Palin, beloved of much of middle America despite her limitations, is doing the equivalent of turning up at weddings and bar mitzvahs and, as we say in Britain, putting herself about. However Mitt Romney, the man deemed by America's media to be the front runner, is (as his greater experience would seem to dictate) more sophisticated in his approach. He has written a book No Apology and is undertaking a 40-stop national tour to promote it. It looks astonishingly like an election campaign.
The Republican Party is giving the impression of once more being a serious fighting force in its opposition to the Obama programme for America. This may be deceptive. Its opposition to the Democrats, who not only occupy the White House but control both houses of Congress, is based for the moment more on contradiction than on constructive engagement. When Mr Obama won his great victory, he and his adherents liked to represent it as a mandate for change. It is now clear it was not. America wanted to punish the Republicans for dragging America down in the world between 2001 and 2009; and Mr Obama was their weapon of retribution. He has served his purpose now: America has decided it remains a centre-Right country in which Democrats and other breeds of Leftist represent opinion more marginal than is apparent from the noise they make. All that remains is to get the Republicans organised again.(continued)

I had not heard of Colonel West. Do you think he has enough legs to take a stab this time around?

I get the distinct impression that Allen West is preparing a run for 2012. In the video below, he talks about what it might take for a conservative to win in 2012, including winning the "image" and the "substance" battle. His answers are very specific and it made me conclude that this guy is seriously considering running. However, he does need to win in 2010 first (Florida District 22).

For a starter: no BS. 100% truth. Unfortunately, many Republicans are sufficiently deep in the corruption that infests Washington that cutting through the web of deceit would cause the public to throw EVERYBODY out. While that may in many ways be a good thing, there are enough people who don't want that to happen--some for perfectly respectable reasons--that it would be well nigh impossible.

Mr. Romney "Disses" Amateur Radio In Televised Town Meeting
"Mitt Romney...alienating America one group at a time." - AlaskaErik
Gov. Sarah Palin, Governor of the state of Alaska, proclaimed the week of July 28 through August 3, 2008 as: Amateur Radio Week
"Governor Orders POW/MIA Flags Flown for Former Prisoners of War Recognition Day"
"Office of the Governor of the State of Alaska ^ | 04-09-09 | Gov. Sarah Palin
April 9, 2009, Juneau, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin today signed a proclamation declaring April 9, 2009,
as Former Prisoners of War Recognition Day. The governor has ordered POW/MIA flags
to be flown in honor and memory of American men and women
who have placed themselves in harms way and faced the horrors of combat."
The price paid by POW/MIA soldiers in defense of liberty is worthy of our highest
gratitude and most solemn remembrance, Governor Palin said.
On this day and always, they are in our thoughts and prayers. We will never forget them or their service.

At left, his wife Danielle and daughter Kylie, 2, talk near the swing set. Circosta,
a decorated Iraq War veteran, seemed like an ideal candidate for a pardon from
then-Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for the 29-year-old's boyhood conviction
for a BB gun shooting. Romney denied the pardon,
twice, despite the recommendation of the Governor's Council."

LOL that's what I said awhile ago --we need a strong, tough SOB!
Col West speaks his mind about the very real threat of Islamofacism and would be able to handle any critics from left or right (RINOs). I can picture him winning against Zer0, or Hillary, and in the primary knocking Romney all to hell.

That's hateful!! Romney=notiously anti-military and spiteful. Spent a couple of years in Paris while other men his age were fighting and dying in Vietnam.
Go away Mitt.

Now we have the London Telegraph choosing our candidate? I suppose that’s an improvement over Crist choosing McCain for us but...
If we don’t have the sense to nominate Sarah we’ll get just what we deserve—4 more years of Obamsky and the Bolshies.

You covered a great deal of the matters that concern most Conservatives. However, you overlooked one that is very important to our economy.
We need a candidate who will stand firmly against illegal aliens remaining in the US and drawing benefits of any type; and who will stand firmly FOR securing the Southern border, finishing the fence that Kay Bailey Hutchison stopped, providing more Border Patrol with fewer restrictions on rules of engagement, providing more power to County Sheriffs regarding illegals, heavily fining or imprisoning employers of illegals, etc.
