Chief justice reignites feud with Obama
The Washington Times ^ | March 11, 2010 | Kara Rowland

The simmering feud between the White House and the Supreme Court is getting a little hotter - and lawmakers on Capitol Hill are helping fan the flames.

Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr.'s impromptu portrayal Tuesday of President Obama's attacks on the high court during the State of the Union address as "very troubling" drew a brusque retort from the White House, which called the court's campaign finance ruling the real problem, and from Democrats eager to attack the court.

Responding to a law student's question when speaking at the University of Alabama, Chief Justice Roberts took aim at Mr. Obama's public chiding in January, saying the annual speech to Congress has "degenerated into a political pep rally." The chief justice, whose nomination by President George W. Bush was opposed by Mr. Obama as a senator, said he accepts criticism but suggested that detractors should be mindful of "the setting, the circumstances and the decorum."

~snip~

Sen. Orrin G. Hatch, Utah Republican, came to Chief Justice Roberts' defense, saying the court got the law right and Mr. Obama was "disrespectful" for criticizing the court while the justices were seated right in front of him.

"No president has done that, and he should not have used that speech for it either," Mr. Hatch said. "Chief Justice Roberts is right - the president's remarks were troubling and the State of the Union this year resembled a political pep rally. Supreme Court justices are there by tradition, and I hope the State of the Union address in the future returns to the kind of event that merits their continued attendance."

Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama, the ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, echoed Mr. Hatch's complaints.

"Have we ever had a President more low life than His Fraudulentcy?"

Yeah ... bubba.

Sorry. Even Bubba was more presidential, a much sharper politician, and far smarter than this gutter trash man-child.

Bubba may be a lowlife lying scumbag liberal, but at least he's an American, and doesn't actually HATE America, like Obama does.

Obama's in a whole different league than BJ Clinton.

Why isn’t Bummer tickled to death to have “foreign influence” over here (if that’s what he believes), rather than being cross about it? Doesn’t the whole world adore him? Doesn’t he want to reduce the USA to a mere state of the world?

What Obama's really angry about, is that the Supreme Court just leveled the playing field with the unions. That's what pissed him off.

I say that next year’s attendance by Justices at the State of the Union address is down from 6 to 5 or 4. All of the liberals will still go, but I bet no more than 1 conservative justice goes.

I wouldn't be surprised of none of them show up.

Well, Bubba's NAFTA/GATT treaty kinda screwed the whole USA, too, but that's peanuts compared to what Obama's trying to do.

Obama is literally trying to dismantle the country's very foundations.

Obama is picking a fight with perhaps the worst person possible.

Chief Justice Roberts will likely have multiple suits coming before his court upon the passage of Obama’s unconstitutional health care bill.

Perhaps 0's plan now is to stir up such a storm with Roberts, that when it comes time for the Court to decide on health care reform, that 0 will demand that Roberts recuse himself. You heard it here first... ;)

Obama can "demand" anything he likes, but he's got no real power over the Judicial branch, and Roberts can just toss that "demand" in the round file without thinking twice.

Besides, Obama wouldn't have any basis to ask for Roberts' recusal on a case regarding the health care legislation.

I'm telling you, Bozo is picking a fight with the wrong dude. Chief Justice Roberts can not only make life miserable for him -- he can potentially have him arrested and removed from office, should just the right case come before his court.

"degenerated into a political pep rally."

Truth is truth. When we saw the Wellstone funeral, we saw the future of the public Democrat party.

Correct, he has no respect for America and our traditional values. He worships himself and comparing him to Guevara is appropriate but Zer0’s ego is probably larger than Che’s.

To continue the thought:

When we saw the Wellstone funeral, we saw the future of the public Democrat party. The problem with the Wellstone funeral was the shameful unseemliness. To the casual viewer it came off as creepy. What they needed was someone who could pull it off. Someone who had no shame at all, someone so glib and superficial and attractive that joining with him in taunting the entire Supreme Court seems like the most natural thing in the world.

Terrible title and terrible premise by the Washington Times. Calling it an "impromptu portrayal" makes it seem like Chief Justice Roberts just lit into Obamao out of nowhere when he was actually responding to a question about whether the State of the Union is a proper venue for chiding the Supreme Court about its decisions. Roberts said that criticizing the court is fine, but explained the problem with using the State of the Union for doing it:
“So I have no problems with that,” he said. “On the other hand, there is the issue of the setting, the circumstances and the decorum.

“The image of having the members of one branch of government standing up, literally surrounding the Supreme Court, cheering and hollering while the court — according the requirements of protocol — has to sit there expressionless, I think is very troubling.”

Audio of the question and answer from Breitbart.tv.

An honest answer from an honest man gets twisted by both this disgraceful White House and a lazy media who get their leads and stories from them. Continued shame on both and nothing but the highest regard for Chief Justice Roberts.

Thanks for pointing that out and posting it. You couldn’t be more correct and I should have picked up on that and didn’t. I’ve read several articles and knew exactly what you posted to be the case.

Oh, it just may. Obama doesn't know what he's messing with.

The high court can literally take him out, and put him up under the jail, if they get the right case, and rule for the truth.
