Isaiah May, who suffered severe brain damage when he was born in October with his umbilical cord around his neck, is seen in this undated handout photo.

Isaiah parents, Isaac and Rebecka May, leave the courthouse in Edmonton on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010.

Isaiah 49:15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.

I can’t even imagine...One of my daughters was born with the cord around her neck, and my husband almost smacked the doctors hands away because she wasn’t getting it off fast enough.

Prayers for the family.

What a beautiful baby! I couldn’t imagine losing a little one that I had held for three months. Miscarriage is hard enough.

Understandably this is an extremely emotional time and it is important to be respectful of the May family's need for privacy given the difficult decision they have made.

When the parents said they wanted Isaiah to live, that wasn't called a difficult decision. It wasn't even recognized as a decision at all. But whenever someone chooses death, we're supposed to respect the "difficult decision" they've made.

There was no respect for the parents’ decision to fight for Isaiah’s life, but we’re being asked to respect their decision to give up.

“But on testing the nerves entering and leaving his brain, I confirmed that his reflexes were all completely absent. He was also unable to breathe for himself without airway and ventilator support.”

You would allow machines to keep the body alive long past brain death for what possible reason?

The doctor went on to say following his examination, and consultations with other specialists, he advised the May family that he believed the boy would never recover and that his body movements were likely due to activity of his spinal cord.

What?! How hard is it to become a "doctor" up there?

Yeah, maybe his magical spinal cord could do the breathing for him. That sounds to me like good solid medical knowledge. /s

He had gained weight since his birth and had bodily functions as they had reported. He was not in any distress.

But he was very expensive.

I’m sorry, I am quite sad at the tragic story of this child, his birth and his passing but if there was no brain activity, no nerve response and he was unable to breathe at all without a ventilator.....wasn’t he dead long before they removed life support? I admittedly know nothing of this case beyond what I read in the article posted, so if there is more that I do not know, I am open to reading it.

The family offered the boy to God and God’s timing. They had to fight governmental healthcare to do that.

God bless the folks that bring such equipment and techniques into the world in celebration of life and God.

We have the duty to prolong life in God’s honor and service and love, but no right to cut it short for our own honor or service or misguided “love”.

Do YOU support the concept of death panels that get to determine who lives and who dies?

When Terri was murdered, we were told that her “husband’s” wishes needed to be respected because he was legally next of kin, now with Baby Isaiah we are told that the wishes of his parents as next of kin SHOULD NOT be respected.

If Isaiah was truly dead, of course it would make sense to remove him from life support. I don’t see how he could have continued to thrive while dead. The decision was made, not based on whether or not he was alive, but based on whether or not his quality of life was high enough to meet some arbitrary and changing standard.

I have to leave now. I’ll check back later.

When they wanted him to live, we were told not to respect their wishes. Once they changed their minds and agreed with the culture of death, we were told to respect their decision.

Notice also, that when they wanted him to live, it was called “their wishes,” and when they wanted him to die, it was called “their decision.”
