The mother of a sixth grade student in Buncombe County, North Carolina says her daughter's teacher wrote 'loser' on the girl's class assignments and she's speaking out about the discouraging comments.

I suspect we all know who the actual “loser” in this story is.
It stands for Answer The, uh, Full, Question.
Is one of my old teachers still teaching?
Because a D or an F might hurt the childs feelings.
Nuns were famous for the worst possible: “See me.”
There is a huge difference between criticizing the answer on a test or a poorly written paper, and criticizing the child herself.
A teacher can say, “This is a lousy paper, because . . .”
A teacher cannot say, “You are a loser.”
Just my opinion, but I feel very strongly about it.
“Not concerned about WHY the teacher felt she should write that on there.”
I’m not concerned either. There really is no excuse for the teacher’s conduct, and he should be fired.
I call BS on this story. A 6th grade public school teacher would have written “looser”.
A teacher should not write “-20% for being a loser” on a child’s paper. There should be a better explanation than that.
Completely obnoxious. There is no excuse for writing this on a child’s paper, ever. He should be fired immediately. Mark wrong answers wrong, and right answers right ... but personally attacking a child is inexcusable.

You are spot on. If someone wrote that about my child I would make sure it was the last time that did it to any child.
Totally inappropriate and unprofessional on the part of the teacher.
Remember that fear and trembling commenced immediately.
You be right.
And they wonder why we homeschool.
I have been called worse while attending college prep school.
The teacher was just repeating what Ace Ventura has said!

How sure are they that the teacher, not the parent, wrote it?
Teachers are the lowest scores in college....it shows....idiots....
“Remember that fear and trembling commenced immediately.”
At that point, you knew you were up sh!t creek;)
If you view the vid, it says “-20% for being a LOSER”. The teacher says he does this to “relate” to the students.
Idiot and yes, a loser.
At community college I had an English teacher (nutjub female of course) take my homework up in front of class and write ‘F’ on it because it was late. It was late because I had my National Guard 2 week annual training during the time it was due and had previously notified her of that fact. I went to the head guy at the college (dean, chancellor, president, whatever they’re called) and he said that although my absence was excused, that she had done this before, that she had the highest drop rate of any teacher at the college, and that she had violated state and federal laws reapeatedly that he wouldn’t do anything about it. Anybody employed by a college can kiss my veteran bupkiss as far as I’m concerned. Oh, BTW, after dropping her nutjob class I ended up in the honor society at that school. Somebody cue the “I’m shocked” French guy from “Casablanca”.
LOL! Even today (at 63) when I see a nun in habit, I begin to sweat, thinking of all those great old days.
Maybe she should speak to her daughter about trying harder.
Two of my children went to Enka Middle School. Surprise, surprise! That’s when we decided to homeschool. Namecalling is totally unacceptable. Children need to be encouraged, built up, and then kindly shown their mistakes and areas of weakness
Zackly my response. Heck my 3rd grade teacher did this and worse 50 years ago. Just hope that bitch is dead by now.
That was a chortle moment.
When I was a boy I found that the best remedy for schoolyard bullies was a punch in the nose. Since that remedy isn’t appropriate for an adult teacher, firing is mandatory.
I agree.
Professional teacher at work.
But I would still like to know what my kid did to warrant a teacher screwing up his career.
She is a loser....she goes to a public school.....
I teach. It’s totally inappropriate.
There have always been teachers that win over a class by finding an unpopular child and ridiculing them. I read an article by Philip Pullman where he boasted about it, and I’ve seen it.
If the child doesn’t have a tuned in parent they can be tortured for a whole year, and some of these teachers can really be rough on a kid.
This teacher was already warned, and still did it. Next year he’ll find another child to abuse.
See my post 39.
It’s a teaching technique used by people who really shouldn’t be teachers.
Ah come on people give the teacher a break, his diaper needed to be changed and his mommy was busy.
agree
That excuse for a teacher is the loser. I recently talked to a man whose son was ridiculed and humiliateed by a teacher when he was in the forth grade. The mother didn’t tell the guy about it for fear of what he would do.
They took their children ot of the systm and home schooled them. Years later my friend discovered that the teacher had left that district and was teaching at a local high school. He went to the school and talked to the creep.
This “teacher” apologized and said that he regretted his behavior. Lets face it, just like in any profession you will find some people who are not fit to hold the positions they have. Unfortunately, teachers in public schools may have a few more than some other professions.
I recall an incident in HS. Our history teacher was Chinese, and on one occasion I made fun of his pronunciation in front of the class. I shouldn’t have, but I was a stupid teenager.
Later that semester we were required to write an essay. I worked hard, wrote the paper, and handed it in on time. I had a sneaky suspicion that the teacher would try hurt me by issuing a bad grade, or worse. I made sure to hand the essay to him.
The very next day I asked the teacher about my essay. He looked me in the eye and said I never turned it in. After I returned home I told my mother. She promptly wrote the teacher a letter. I handed him the letter during class, which he immediately read. To this day, I do not know what my mother wrote in that letter, but as soon as my history teacher finished the letter, he magically shuffled through a stack of papers and handed me the essay.
He wrote a number of comments on the paper, along with my grade - D. I asked him to explain why I received a D, and his comments because they had nothing to do with the essay. The teacher never explained himself, but took the paper and crossed out the D, then wrote a C.
This is the norm in the public school system.
Yrs. ago, after moving to a new neighborhood, we had to enrolled out children in the local public school. I started working in the class room as a tutor.
There were countless occasion involving teachers ridiculing students. On one particular occasion a teacher informed a mother of a young boy that he’d never amount to much. Unfortunately the teacher made this proclamation in front of the little lad. The mother was deeply offended and upset.
On another occasion, after our child returned from school, we noticed that he was upset. The family discovered that the teacher made fun of the way our child dressed in front of the class. We immediately called the school and spoke with the teacher. This woman initially denied her behavior, but after threatening to pursue this incident, she confessed and apologized.
The final incident involved this same teacher “getting” physical with our child. We were present when this occurred, although the teacher did not realize we witnessed her action until it was too late. Shortly thereafter we removed the children and resumed homeschooling.
Public schools are for indoctrinating American children.

"thanks for coming out"
It was the last thing Marines who had been dropped from the school saw upon leaving. (And approximately 2/3 of the Marines in the starting class get dropped along the way.)
what a useless little man
“Nuns were famous for the worst possible: See me.”
Yeah, I remember those days. The solution for not getting that written on my assignments? Do it right the first time.
Should have written “looser.” That way the confusion would cancel out the humiliation of Little Johnny.
My granddaughter was the president of the Student Council and the teacher who was the sponser really didn’t like her. Long story, short she stopped her in the hall one day and spoke to her so horribly that the school nurse called my DIL in tears after stopping her.
My DIL met her that day along with the principal and pretty much told her that if she didn’t treat my granddaughter with the respect she deserved my DIL would make the teacher’s life miserable. I just told my GD what I told her father when he had an unpleasant teacher, “Life is full of Aholes, you might as well learn to deal with them sooner rather than later.”
This teacher was also the only 6th grade teacher and she was coldly polite to my GD. Unlike other years she gave the kids so much homework that they had no life. Then one night she had 5 hours of homework and that was with both her Mom and Dad helping her and my son went to school the next morning and so did half the parents of the other children in her class, then she didn’t give them any homework at all, she is a thoroughly unpleasant person.
50/50 the parent is an attention whore and the incident never happened.
