SHANGHAI, March 13 (Reuters) - Talks with China over censorship have reached an apparent impasse and Google, the world's largest search engine, is now "99.9 percent" certain to shut its Chinese search engine, the Financial Times said on Saturday.
It said in a report on its website Google (GOOG.O) had drawn up detailed plans for closing its Chinese search engine.
The newspaper cited a person familiar with the company's thinking as saying that, while a decision could be made very soon, Google was likely to take some time to follow through with its plans.
That would be in order to bring about an orderly closure as the company takes steps to protect local employees from retaliation by authorities, it said.
China warned Google on Friday against flouting the country's laws, as expectations grow for a resolution to a public battle over censorship and cyber-security.

When Google goes the additional .1% and actually does it, I'll say "Finally, a big corportation that I can respect."
I bet atheist Bill Gates is just droooooling at the thought of getting his worthless Bing search engine in there.
What an idiot thing to say.
A billion eyeballs for Baidu.com, albeit with Cisco-enabled ChiCom censored eyesight.
spoken like a leftist anti-capitalist...
I'm terribly sorry if I offended you Glen; after all, there is an easy libertarian buck to be made by dealing with the Butchers of Beijing isn't there?
Microsoft stirs free speech debate
June 21, 2005
Microsoft's Bill Gates, pictured on screen, has made many trips to China strengthening the company's relationship with top Chinese leaders.
Chinese bloggers who use Microsoft's new Web portal to post messages captioned "democracy,'' "capitalism,'' "liberty'' or "human rights'' are greeted with a scolding response.
A bright yellow warning appears: "This message includes forbidden language. Please delete the prohibited expression.''
The restrictions were agreed upon by Microsoft and its Chinese partner, the government-linked Shanghai Alliance Investment.
Yep Glen, I'm an idiot. It's truly idiotic of me to think that it's wrong for totalitarian regimes such as the Chi-coms to enslave people under an iront fist and to use slave labor and 12 year old girls working 18 hour days to make their shoddy products.
I'm sure in the libertarian world it's seen as a "character builder".
But then those that worship the Cato Institute and the Libertarian Party can't relate to words such as "principle" can they now?
Won't matter. I'm sure China has copied their code by now, and will set up their own engine.
Google is one of the most evil companies on the planet. They regularly censor conservatives, even while pushing the Islamic crazies. Google is basically accusing China of doing the same thing Google has been doing to conservatives in this country.

“I bet atheist Bill Gates is just droooooling at the thought of getting his worthless Bing search engine in there. “
What a load of utter crap!
The biggest search engine in China by far, is a Chinese search engine called “Baidu”, who are far bigger in China than Google. Look it up. They are the ones that are going to benefit if Google actually withdraws from China. Bing is virtually nonexistent in China for all practically purposes.
They already have their own search engine, and their search engine has been beating Google in market share for years.
“Baidu leads China Web search market in Q4
Baidu.com Inc led China's search engine market in last year's fourth quarter with a 60.1 percent share, research firm Analysys International said on Friday.
Google Inc came second with a 25.9 percent share, followed by Yahoo China with 9.6 percent, it said in a statement.”

I hate Google. They sent their execs to help the tech department for the Obama campaign so in this case, I’m siding with the Chi-coms. Can I invest in Baidu?
Don’t get me wrong Joe; like atheist Bill Gates Microsoft, Google sold it’s soul as well just to do business with the Chinese communists:
In January 2006, Google confirmed its intent to filter certain keywords given to it by the government of the China. The restrictions apply to thousands of terms and websites. Google has claimed that some censorship is necessary in order to keep the Chinese government from blocking Google entirely, as occurred in 2002.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Censorship_by_Google#China
What’s their motive for not continuing to do business with the Chinese butchers? They had a lucrative deal going, why end it?
Whatever it is, they’re going 99.1 % in the right direction.
Atheist Bill Gates and the numerous multinational corporations that trade principle for GREED could take a lesson or two.
So "nonexistent" that an "imaginary" NYT's article was written about it:
"Microsoft's current position, which insults my intelligence and yours, is that there was indeed a bug of some kind and that it is fixed," Kristof wrote in his column, "but that searches in simplified characters continue to produce pro-Communist results because of the algorithms used."
Yes. NASDAQ ticker BIDU
thanks
It is PURE evil to censor Michelle Malkin (get over it Michelle; I've been banned, i.e. "censored" from more blogs that I can remember, most of them are supposedly "conservative").
I mistakenly pointed the evil finger at an atheist that openly does business with a country that MURDERED 40 million of their own people under Mao, forcibly aborts babies that aren't of the right gender, and imprisons and sentences to death millions whose "crime" is believing in God and wanting to be free men.
Damn me for getting in the way of those that want to make an easy buck.
Oh, and Joe, who needs Bing when you have Windows?
“It’s an institution-to-institution relationship, where we’ve really found a win-win way of doing things together that will generate a substantial part of Microsoft’s growth in the next decade. I don’t know any company in the IT industry where things have worked out as well as they have for Microsoft.” [My math tells me when two atheists get together and have found a “win-win way of doing things”, it’s usually “lose-lose” for the cause of freedom.].

You need to chill a bit, dude.
You seem to forget that the same country that you are talking about, that murdered 40 million people under Mao, are the ones that are currently financing our federal budget deficits right now, having already bought to the tune of close to $1 trillion of US government bonds. This is the same country where most of our laptops, shoes, TV sets, iPods, etc are made. In fact its hard to go a Walmart and shop without having most of the goods that you buy there being made in China.
In addition, you also forget that almost every single big US Fortune 500 company is currently doing business in China.
Your attempt to make it look like Microsoft doing business in China, is somehow unique amongst Americab businesses, is laughable.
It just so happens that most of the copies of Windows in use in China, are pirated copies that the Chinese can buy from the street corner markets. Meanwhile anyone who wants to, can go get the Chinese own version of Linux called “Red Flag Linux”. In fact, the Chinese government was forcing local Internet cafe owners to install their own Red Flag Linux in place of Microsoft Windows at one time:

Nah, I'm a conservative that believes in God and His laws, not some money hungry atheist libertarian that is solely out to make an easy buck. Our once Christian nation has sold it's soul to a bunch of murdering "thieving" butchers.
Link to Chinese official's fled with BILLIONS
Fe fi fo fum, is it possible that I smell the stench of a lib-er-tar-i-an?
Link to Cato Institute trade with the Chi coms
There's a term for that isn't there Joe? I think it's called
"Poetic Justice"
Then you'd better go find enough money(in the trillions of dollars), so you can go buy our federal government US bonds, so we don't have to rely on the Chinese to buy our bonds, in order to finance our own budget expenditure.
And while you are about it, you may want to build vast new factories here in America, to produce all the vast quantities of consumer electronics, laptops, shoes, clothes and nearly everything else that we are currently importing from China.
And hey? You might want to check where the computer that you are now using to get online, was made at.
“Poetic Justice
There is a term for it. It’s called “stealing”.
There you were, piously claiming in just your last post, that you were “a conservative that believes in God and His laws”
What kind of “conservative” that believes in God’s laws, turns round and cheers on a bunch of thieves?
Yes, life is so much better for the US since we sold our souls to the Communist Chinese. We've closed our factories and no longer have to burden ourselves with putting a stamp on a item that was made with quality saying "Made in the USA".
Now we get to take our food stamps and welfare checks and go to Walmart and save 12 cents on some piece of Chinese crapola that was made by slave laborers that is laced with all kinds of deadly toxins.
But I have to keep in mind: I saved 12 cents.
You got me there Joe. I really should give a hoot when one Godless atheist steals from another.
Hey, how about I do this: The next time a see a junky rip off another junky during a drug deal, I'll scream THIEF! THIEF! THIEF!
Oh and Joe, thanks for your advice. I always consult with atheists on how to become a better Christian; according to them, they know everything about the religion that they despise.
Nope.
No one is happy about our vast trade deficits with China, or the fact that we are depending on the Chinese to finance our federal budgets (apart from the Chinese of course). That's one on the reasons why we are fighting against 0bama's loony left agenda. That's why we have the Tea Parties.
The point is, there you were trashing Microsoft for doing business in China, when our own federal government, is doing business with China, to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars of bond sales, in order to finance our government expenditure. You are gonna trash our military as well, because some of the money that finances out military comes from bonds that our government sold to China?
“and go to Walmart and save 12 cents on some piece of Chinese crapola that was made by slave laborers that is laced with all kinds of deadly toxins.”
Ummm..its not just Wal Mart. Go to Best Buy today and you are gonna find it hard to find any laptops, TV’s, DVD players, video game consoles, etc that were not made in China.
There is something called the Ten Commandments. One of them reads: ” Thou Shall Not Steal”.
I am not sure what God you have been worshiping, or what God's laws you claim you “believe in”.
“The next time a see a junky rip off another junky during a drug deal, I'll scream THIEF! THIEF! THIEF!”
Here is an idea: Next time you see someone stealing from another person, you might try not CHEERING ON the thief, like you have been doing on this thread. How about that eh?
I wasn't aware that it was ME that was cheering on Godless atheists that murder and torture their own people, while openly doing business with a Godless atheist that makes BILLIONS off of those poor innocent souls misery and despair. (I was under the impression that it was YOU that was defending the Chi coms and Billy Bob Gates Joe).
How about I go with the Ann Coulter saying? "I don't really like to think of it as a murder. It was terminating Tiller in the 203rd trimester. ... I am personally opposed to shooting abortionists, but I don't want to impose my moral values on others." --on the murder of Kansas abortion doctor George Tiller, FOX News interview, June 22, 2009
While I am personally opposed to theft, I don't like to think of it as theft; besides, who am I to impose my moral values on atheists (they just HATE it when I do that!).
For the record, I am for "terminating the Chinese Communist Party in its 3,000th trimester".
I guess I better get my eyes and ears checked, because I don't see or hear ANYWHERE that we should end trade with the Chi com butchers. Are you trying to say that the Tea Parties are against trade with China? The same Tea Parties that are full of open border/open trade libertarians and worshippers of the Cato Institute? Give me a break Joe.
"Ron Paul, the libertarian congressman who has spoken at Tea Party events and is credited by some with helping start the movement, is facing a primary challenge this week from Republican candidates inspired by Tea Party ideals."

This is from your post # 24:
“There's a term for that isn't there Joe? I think it's called
“Poetic Justice”
If that is not cheering on thieves, what is? “I was under the impression that it was YOU that was defending the Chi coms and Billy Bob Gates Joe”
Again, Microsoft is doing business in China, just like thousands of top US comoanies from the Fortune 500, S & P 500, Silicon Valley start-ups etc etc, and just like the US giverment is doing business with China, when they sell US government bonds to China, so they can finance your military, pay for your Medicare/Medicaid etc etc.
“While I am personally opposed to theft, I don't like to think of it as theft”
You were cheering on the thieves just a moment ago, from your post # 28:
"I really should give a hoot when one Godless atheist steals from another.”
So which is it?
Are you stupid as well as retarded?
Now why don't you show me any Tea Parties that are for open borders?
And...umm..when did free trade become equal to massive trade deficits? Free trade simply means unfettered and equal access to each other’s markets, not a situation, where one country opens its markets for trade, and the other country keeps a very tight lid on imports from other countries.
“Ron Paul, the libertarian congressman who has spoken at Tea Party events and is credited by some with helping start the movement”
# 1. Ron Paul did NOT found the Tea Parties. The Tea Parties are a grass roots movement that took off due to a congruence of factors, one of which was the spark was was lit by Rick Santelli. I take it, you never heard of Rick Santelli before?.
# 2. Ron Paul is a kook. How many votes did he get in the Republican primaries in 2008?
Well said!
You got me again Joe:
Stop that you dirty Chi Coms! Ahhhh...I feel SO much better now!
Now that I've cleansed myself of that terrible disease called "political incorrectness", let's see what God says about those who do evil against their own citizens:
Exodus 21:16 says: He who kidnaps a man, whether he sells him or he is found in his possession, shall surely be put to death. Deuteronomy 24:7 states: If a man is caught kidnapping any of his countrymen of the sons of Israel, and he deals with him violently, or sells him, then that thief shall die; so you shall purge the evil from among you.

On Jan. 11 Julia Duin of The Washington Times reported that three Christians were sentenced to death in China. Their alleged crimes included Bible smuggling, operating an unauthorized church, "rape and hooliganism." China is a totalitarian state run by madmen. Millions of human beings in China are subjected to slave labor, brutal punishments, un-edible rations and solitary confinement. Their crimes include "economic crimes" and "political crimes." In his book, "Laogai: The Chinese Gulag," Hongda Harry Wu says that we do not know for certain how many millions are enslaved in Chinas labor camp system. It is possible that 20 million persons are enslaved in China. According to Wu, "the use of forced labor to provide wealth has been a major task for many Labor Reform Camps."

"No one should question that individual rights are vital to liberty and that the communist government of China has an abysmal record in that department. At the same time, basic human rights must necessarily include the right to enter into voluntary exchanges with others." Ron Paul, May 24, 2000
http://www.ronpaullibrary.org/document.php?id=856
(Or as any good libertarian will tell you: "There will be a few "victims" along the way to "true liberty"). What do you get when you mix economics with unbiblical principles jjd? (a) Ron Paul (b) Libertarianism (i.e. Godless atheism) (c) The Cato Institute (d) ALL of the above (trust me on this one, the answer is "d").
Are you starting to get the picture YET?
Do your homework Joe. Wayne Allyn Root, VP candidate for the Libertarian Party, is a guest speaker at the "showdown" in Harry Reids hometown of Search Light NV.
"Ron Paul, the libertarian congressman who has spoken at Tea Party events and is credited by some with helping start the movement, is facing a primary challenge this week from Republican candidates inspired by Tea Party ideals."
Hmmm! You certainly have been one of the really clever ones. /sarc
Most of the really cleaver knee-pad trolls/infiltrators require reading their posts in more-then-one thread to accurately identify them. However, with you it's like stepping in the neighbor's dog's excrement left in the middle of the sidewalk. Thanks for making this so easy...
Witless Troll Alert!
Political correctness has nothing to do with our government’s dependence on China to finance our ferela budget deficits. It's out of control spending.
” let's see what God says about those who do evil against their own citizens”
Read up. I suggested that you go find the trillions of dollars that are needed to finance our federal/state government budget deficits, you can stop the goverment from having to depend on the Chinese to finance our deficits.
Until you come up with those trillions of dollars, you are just blowing hot air and chaff.
Logic is not your strongest point is it?
Wayne Allyn Root of the Libertarian Party is speaking at Search Light, so therefore the Libertarian Party founded the Tea Party?
Or that the Tea Parties are for open borders?
That's like saying the Republican Party is for cap and trade because Lindsay Graham backs cap and trade.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea_Party_movement
(Note: “A protest at the Denver Capitol Building was already in the works, which Michelle Malkin reports was organized by the conservative advocacy group, Americans for Prosperity...”.).
Americans for Prosperity: Founded in 2004 by David H. Koch.
David H. Koch:
David Koch was the Libertarian Party’s vice-presidential candidate in the 1980 US presidential election, sharing the party ticket with Ed Clark.
I wasn’t aware that Christian conservatives and atheist libertarians could work together for a common cause Joe.
It’ll be fun to sit back and watch the dog and pony “Tea Party Movement” go nowhere. Without a biblical foundation (and as long as libertarians are involved in the Tea Party Movement, God will be out of the picture) our country is on a path to “nowhere”.
I guess you’re not too familiar with the Libertarian Party platform Joe:
We’re not only pro drugs, pornography, prostitution, abortion and homosexuality, we’re for open borders and “free trade” with communist butchers!”
http://www.lp.org/platform
Please don’t tell me you’re an apologist for the Republicrat Party Joe? I thought people that came to FR had better sense than that?
Some call it "treason".
Read up. I suggested that you go find the trillions of dollars that are needed to finance our federal/state government budget deficits, you can stop the goverment from having to depend on the Chinese to finance our deficits.
We got ourselves into this deficit by dealing with the devil; we surely won't get ourselves out of it the same way.
Since you’ve decided to enter this debate SuperLuminal, please feel free to tell me the attributes of trading with communist butchers? Other than keeping a nation afloat that has said that they will DESTROY US, what else is there that we should love so much about Communist China SuperLuminal?
Us trolls needz ta know.
You are all over the place ain't ya?
So which is it? Political correctness or treason?
You are getting ever more confused, and keep spewing out even more garbage than ever?
“We got ourselves into this deficit by dealing with the devil;”
Groan!
Are you even sure you are normal n the head at all?
” we surely won't get ourselves out of it the same way.”
Again, why don't YOU supply the trillions of dollars needed to cover our deficits right now?
“Itll be fun to sit back and watch the dog and pony Tea Party Movement go nowhere.”
Given that you will be in hell, before the Tea Parties “go nowhere”, I am fairly certain the Tea Parties will do very well for themselves, having already helped us to win the elections in VA, NJ and MA, and growing ever stronger since then.
Beautiful, absolutely beautiful.
Admit it Joe, your beloved Tea Party Movement was founded by Godless libertarians. Once you acknowledge that, the vein that’s about ready to pop in your forehead will decrease in size substantially, and then and ONLY then, we can continue with your lesson in politics.
While fat cat atheists like Bill Gates and the boyz from the libertarian “stink tank” Cato Institute get rich off of the slave labor of political prisoners in China, I humbly sit here and speak up for those that can’t.
I must be mad.
