[South Texas:]Police: One in custody, two injured after cartel shooting at McAllen Walmart

McALLEN — Police have detained one man suspected of a drug cartel-related kidnapping and shooting near a Walmart store Sunday night.

Two men were shot and possibly kidnapped during the incident, which occurred about 10:30 p.m. Sunday near the 1200 block of Jackson Avenue, said McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez.

"We're still piecing together information," Rodriguez said. "It appears to obviously be organized crime."

Investigators believe the two men voluntarily left with the suspected kidnappers in a Chevrolet Tahoe at the parking lot outside Walmart on the 1200 block of Jackson Avenue.

When one of the men worried he was being held against his will, he bailed out of the SUV and was shot, the chief said. He then fled to a nearby Med-Care EMS ambulance facility, which reported the incident to police.

The other victim was left near a canal close to the intersection of McColl and El Rancho Roads, police said.

"We suspect cartel activity by some or all of the persons we're looking at right now," Rodriguez said. "We don't know the motive at this point in time."

One of the victims remains hospitalized, while the other has been treated and released.

The suspect in custody has not yet been arrested, Rodriguez said, but possible charges in the case include attempted capital murder, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery. Police continue to look for other suspects possibly involved and investigate the incident.

Hey the government has decided to let the borders leak ... so some citizens will drown

They do not care until it is at their door

So many border towns did not want fences because it would affect their shops.. oh well now they get to clean up the bodies

It is amazing how much comes down at Walmarts.

I call it going to “The Danger Zone” (from the Top Gun Movie).

I am always packing when I go there. Alot of shady looking characters loitering in cars and hanging around.

Is the beginning? Didn’t we say this would happen? What will the US government do to protect us from foreign invasion? Is it racism???? Step by step...inch by inch....

“The other victim was left near a canal close to the intersection of McColl and El Rancho Roads, police said.”

That sounds like punks, not cartel - he’d have been shot and dumped, not let out of the car.

Huh? Voluntarily? Is that a kidnapping then? This reminds me of the IRS telling us that the income tax is voluntary.

It’s here, no need to wait for the ‘spillover’.

You’re living in the wrong place.

Walmart Super Centers are pretty nice places where I live.

I love seeing stories about drug cartel violence along the border a week before I head to Laredo for a work project.

I have no plans whatsoever for a border crossing. I’m just getting there on Monday, getting my equipment installed, and getting back out on Friday. I haven’t checked yet to see what sort of reciprocity agreements, in regards to CCW, SD has with TX.

Texas will accept concealed carry from any state!
Even if they do not accept Texas CHL (concealed handgun license).

September 6, 2005
South Dakota

Note: Effective immediately, Governor Perry has issued a proclamation that allows persons with concealed handgun licenses from South Dakota to legally carry in Texas. South Dakota residents will be required to follow Texas law while carrying in this state. This has the effect of reciprocity between Texas and South Dakota since South Dakota law recognizes valid licenses issued from other states including Texas.

That’s good to know, thanks. FYI, Indiana is reciprocal with any state that allows concealed carry.

Update ping!

Sources: Ex-Officer Possibly Has Ties to Organized Crime

MCALLEN - Investigators arrested a former police officer. They tell us they found Rene De Hoyos’ ID in a truck used in a shooting in McAllen.

De Hoyos once worked for the Pharr, Hidalgo, and La Joya police departments.

He’s facing charges of attempted capital murder for his alleged involvement in a drug-related shooting. The shooting happened near the southside Wal-Mart on Sunday. Two men were wounded.

De Hoyos was the second person arrested for the shooting. A source tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS De Hoyos may have ties to organized crime in Mexico, possibly the Zetas.

The ex-police officer is expected to face a judge sometime today or possibly tomorrow.

It’s legal to carry a loaded weapon in your vehicle in Texas. Not sure if you have to be a resident or not.

No, it is not really that bad. South Texas is a great place to visit and has a great ambiance.

We spent the month of November wandering around Texas and traveled most of the length of the Rio Grande. It is special America

Well, looks like 84 degrees right now in Laredo, and it’s 56 here in South Dakota, so yeah, it’ll be nice. The week after Laredo, I’ll be in Dallas. I’ll get spoiled.
