Hawaii may start ignoring repeated requests for proof that President Barack Obama was born on the islands.
Repeated requests to see President Barack Obama's birth certificate may fall on deaf ears after the House Judiciary Committee heard a bill permitting government officials to ignore people who won't give up.
So-called "birthers" claim Mr Obama is ineligible to be president because, they argue, he was actually born outside the United States, and therefore doesn't meet a constitutional requirement for being president.
"Sometimes we may be dealing with a cohort of people who believe lack of evidence is evidence of a conspiracy," said Lorrin Kim, from the Hawaii Department of Health.
Under Hawaii state law, the release of a birth certificate is prohibited for people who do not have a tangible interest.
Hawaii Health Director Dr Chiyome Fukino issued statements last year and in October 2008 saying that she had seen vital records that prove Mr Obama is a natural-born American citizen.
Mr Obama was born to a Kenyan father and an American mother.
But the state still gets between 10 and 20 emails seeking verification of Obama's birth each week, most of them from outside Hawaii.
Both Dr Fukino and the state registrar of vital statistics have verified that the Health Department holds Obama's original birth certificate.
Republican Cynthia Thielen said: "Do we really want to be known internationally as the legislature that blocked any inquiries into where President Obama was born?
"When people want to get more information, the way to fuel that fire is to say, 'We're now going to draw down a veil of secrecy."'
Nobody at the hearing questioned the fact that the president was born in Hawaii.
If the measure is passed, the state Office of Information Practices could declare an individual a "vexatious requester" and

That would be Biblical.
Attorney Peter Fritz asked why the state would pass a law punishing repetitive requests for open records. Instead, the state could simply say it would only answer each person's question once.,
I am NOT a birther, but it would be freaking hilarious if they got 10s or 100s of thousands of requests because of the proposed law.
So they would rather ban requests than send out just one copy? Odd, isn’t it?
They think they are swamped with requests now, just wait.
The entire world knows he had a non-citizen parent.
The entire world knows Sr. was a bigamist. Any marriage after the first isn't worth a plug nickel.
Any number of other issues have been out on the world wide web for years - parents never married, Malcolm X or Davis or grandpa or some other dude is pops, some bar floozy is mama, holds at least 4 citizenships, not born in HI or the US, no doctor or hospital, delayed bc, maybe he's female or he's an alien from the planet Zolon. Embarrassment doesn't come into play because nothing can be worse than your mother's porn pics all over the web. It has to do with a personal cover up and I suspect it's the citizenship.
Haven't they been doing this already? If not, wouldn't we have seen the long form by now?
There is NO birth certificate.
Obama wasn't born. He is a gift to the world by the prophet and pervert Mohamed.
It is practically criminal that they would change the law affecting everyone who has vital records on file, just because of requests related to one person who is a public figure. It gives the state the ability to arbitrarily deny information the public. The ACLU needs to get involved.
Does Barack think he's bigger than the Beatles?!!
I think the chances of the ACLU doing anything against Obama are slim and none. Otherwise, they would have done it already.
Was he adopted by Stanley’s second husband?
Did he apply for college as an Indonesian?
Lingering questions.
Just as John Kerry never released his military records to his critics.
This isn’t a matter of doing anything against Obama, but responding to Hawaii’s attempt to irrationally limit public access to information.
You just KNOW that Ringo Starrkey had to be swamped with requests for autographs by mail when he put a moratorium date on such requests.
Frank Marshall Davis as dear old dad?
The same could be said of all of the lawsuit activity to release the long form BC. Judges say "it's already out there". Then enter it as evidence in the court. Judges lie and they know they do.
Hit 'em where it hurts. Las Vegas didn't like O's stand.
Have any of the states pushed through a measure yet requiring birth certificate proof to get on the ballot in 2012 for the White House?
Has Barack Obama ever run for re-election for any of the offices he’s held?
Has anyone checked the recently released CSPAN archives for the televised debate with Alan Keyes? Reportedly (although even Keyes says he does not recall the exchange) there is a bit in the unedited full tape where Obama states that his birth origin is not of issue because he was not running for the Presidency (Senate run). Did it happen? Will the clip be lost to time?
Obama claimed to be a lifelong Christian as well (on his website in the “fight the smears” section.
He never has produced a baptism certificate nor has he bothered to mark any of the traditional Christian holy days.
