What a timely post. I just got mine and was trying to figure out what was necessary and what was not.

Glaringly, if it’s being used to calculate federal representation, illegals are in this count.

The note included said it also goes to allocating funds for schools and roads. Can’t figure out how whether I own my home, my name, my gender, my race have anything at all to do with that. I have no kids in public school, so age doesn’t seem to be of any significance. (And I can’t find anywhere in my copy of the Constitution about the federal government funding schools. Post roads, yes. Schools, no.)

It also said they wouldn’t share the info. That made me wonder if school funding is coming from the census bureau? Seems like, if the information is going to be of any use at all it will need to be shared.

When you get right down to it, headcount seems to be the only pertinent question.

I think I’m feeling just ornery enough toward my government these days to be a minimally cooperative as possible.

10 yrs ago.....the Vice President of the bank I did business with in the city I lived...came to my door.

After I had refused multiple others...

Of course I knew her...and she politely asked me why I wasn't answering the questions. I told her the number of toilets in my house is none of your business...nor the Feds.

She asked me...if she could just fill in the number of people living at my residence.

I don't her...knock yourself out.

I still do some banking there...but took most of it away from there.

I wouldn’t worry about it. I’d feel more scared giving them my information.

The monetary fine would be the least of my concerns. It's the "violating Federal Law" part that I'm more worried about.

Allow me to put on my tinfoil hat for a second and speculate that in this day and age, giving the middle finger to the Census Bureau could get your name on a well-maintained list of computerized databases that you don't really want your name to be on.

By filling out their little form, I told the gov't my name, my b-day and that I'm white, my family's names, their b-days and that they're white too. No big deal. I'm in the military and I filed a tax return earlier this year. The government already knows all these personal details about myself (and much, much more).

I would have canceled my accounts at that bank that day!

live is too short to fight every damn thing...

If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.

The problem isn’t the short form quiz, its the intrusive long form. Don’t mind getting counted, do mind telling nobama’s herd when they can come break in without getting ventilated.

"I simply acknowledge the fact that I can answer the question now, or whent he goons come."

Yes, you can. Do you have to? No. There is a difference -- for now.

Yes, it does. Not providing any other info has nothing to do with ornery -- I'd categorize it as smart.

One of the questions on the short form positively INFURIATES me!!! It’s the question that isn’t there: 11) Citizenship.

Our nation is too important for the government to develop a dossier on every American.

The government has the constitutionally-mandated responsibility to count the number of Americans. That is all. They are not entitled to know how many flush-toilets we have in our homes.

Furthermore, they are wrong to ask our "race." A government that wants to know your skin color plans to treat you differently on the basis of skin color.

Your idea would be a good one to stop Healthcare.

If enough of the Conservatives in Liberal districts let it be known they would stiff the Census, the Congressman from that district might get a backlash from his “free-loading base” if they are told that the Healthcare will result in fewer perks for them.

FrdmLvr, you are exactly right!!

I would have no problem filling out the form were it defining the count on the basis of CITIZENSHIP.

If the number of House Reps is to be apportioned based on this number then it is imperative that the number be based on LEGAL CITIZENS.

Why is there not an uproar about this aspect of the census? Have we become so complacent or so focused on other issues (like lack of freedom) that we can’t see the real issue here. Is our House Representation going to be apportioned influenced by the masses of illegals and where they are concentrated? If that is so, then our “freedom” will indeed be threatened by more than having to provide a bit of harmless info on the census form.

I am only going to give them the number of people living in the house. But I am still trying to decide how to word the statement I will attach as to why. My protest is based on the fact that this is not a valid census since it does not distinguish between citizens and non-citizens.

Am I wrong?

Read this article on the census that I just posted. It is about the fact that the census does not distinguish between legal and illegal residents!!!!!!!!!!!

As I already stated in previous post, this is the real scary issue.
