A majority of bishops and dioceses of the Episcopal Church have approved the election of the churchs second openly gay bishop, the Rev. Mary D. Glasspool, a decision likely to increase the tension with fellow Anglican churches around the world that do not approve of homosexuality.
The worldwide Anglican Communion, the network of churches connected to the Church of England, has been in turmoil since the Americans elected their first openly gay bishop, V. Gene Robinson, in New Hampshire in 2003. Theological conservatives in the Communion say the Bible condemns homosexuality, while liberals say the Scripture is open to interpretation.
Bishop Glasspool, 56, is to be consecrated as one of two new assistant bishops, known as suffragan bishops, in Los Angeles on May 15. Both elected suffragan bishops are women the first ever to serve in the diocese.
Both were elected at a convention of the diocese in December, but according to church rules had to win the approval of a majority of the bishops and standing committees (made up of clergy and laypeople) of the churchs 110 dioceses. Bishop Glasspools confirmation was never certain.
Bishop Glasspool, who has been serving in Maryland as an adviser to the bishops for nine years, said Wednesday in an interview: I feel overjoyed. I feel relieved. Im breathing again.
She and her partner, Becki Sander, a postgraduate student in social work, have been together for 22 years.
The bishop said she intended to reach out to those who opposed her. Asked whether she anticipated that her election would have repercussions in the Anglican Communion, she said, While I understand that not everyone rejoices, I dont understand what will functionally be different tomorrow than today with respect to our relationships around the world.

That is so sad. I can’t begin to imagine how sad it is for those leaving the church because of this.
It will be interesting to see which of the ELCA's Metrosexual Synods (big "blue" cities) will be the first to follow suit in electing a gaysbian Bishop

Keep a Good Lent!
Does the reformed Anglican church allow for female bishops?
Guilty!! Oh wait, wrong thread.
Anyway, can one become a former Episcopalian twice?
‘nuff said.
GUILTY !!
Can’t say I’ve ever seen a clerical before that was a faux military jacket with bird poop or paintball prints on it. God have mercy!
They should have left due to their communist membership in WCC a long time ago. If it takes gays in power to wake them up, what’s so sad about that?
So can I do anything I want because the Episcopalians say it is “open to interpretation”?
The bible does not say that does it...
Jesus Christ is the sacrifice of peace offering.
The people who ordained this woman did not read the law of peace offering in Lev 7:16.
16 But if the sacrifice of his offering is a vow or a voluntary offering, it shall be eaten the same day that he offers his sacrifice; but on the next day the remainder of it also may be eaten; 17 the remainder of the flesh of the sacrifice on the third day must be burned with fire. 18 And if any of the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offering is eaten at all on the third day, it shall not be accepted, nor shall it be imputed to him; it shall be an abomination to him who offers it, and the person who eats of it shall bear guilt.
19 The flesh that touches any unclean thing shall not be eaten. It shall be burned with fire. And as for the clean flesh, all who are clean may eat of it. 20 But the person who eats the flesh of the sacrifice of the peace offering that belongs to the LORD, while he is unclean, that person shall be cut off from his people. 21 Moreover the person who touches any unclean thing, such as human uncleanness, an unclean animal, or any abominable unclean thing,[a] and who eats the flesh of the sacrifice of the peace offering that belongs to the LORD, that person shall be cut off from his people.
Jesus is the peace offering and a voluntary one. His flesh which he invites us to eat so we can be sanctified is available for only two days (2000 years). By the third day it must be all burned up.
In short, the Church age will end in 20 year. After two days, he offers the flesh (what Christ refers eat my flesh and drink my blood) and the one who takes it will bear guilt and it (the righteousness of Christ) will not be imputed to him. This must explain why the great increase of lawlessly in the end time. We are just seeing the beginning of it.
Well, the Episcopals only have two openly gay bishops. Aren’t you concerned about your lavender seminaries?
She is at least twice not qualified: homosexual and not a “one woman man”
It’s over. You’ve made your point and Rome has heard it. Please come home.
