Sometimes it takes deeper analysis to sniff out an anti-rights propagandist. (WIkipedia)
At the repeated behest of my wife, I sat down to read my first Janet Evanovich book, Plum Spooky. You may wonder what a fiction writer has to do with gun rights. Unfortunately, far more than you might think, because modern media has learned how to promote their anti-self-defense message in more and more subtle ways.
Welcome to the fantasy world of Stephanie Plum, a female bounty hunter who tracks down criminals who skip out of court appearances and their associated bail. She doesnt like guns, but her associates all carry them. Since one of the repeating plot devices has Plum dealing with violent encounters with those she intends to capture, her anti-self-defense attitude is irrational at best, suicidal at worst.
But what do you expect when Plum also seems able to pound down donuts and still fit into her jeans the next day? Magic? A metabolic anomaly?
Plum doesnt know martial arts, but somehow manages to tackle 20-something, street-smart male, knee his testicles, and handcuff him. Magic!
This is a fantasy world where a woman who eschews self-defense tools and skills can survive in a profession that exposes her to violent criminals on a regular basis.
When her Jeep runs out of gas in the New Jersey pine barrens, and her associate Lula takes off to find civilization, Plum runs to catch up because Lula had the gun with bullets in it.

How to flip someone off, posthumously.
That’s not weird. What’s really really really weird are those novels about the medieval PROGRESSIVE Samurai detective who is a champion of women’s rights. Now THAT’S weird.
It sounds like an unremarkable novel, not really worth the time it would take to read it.
What’s even weirder is that readers prefer apolotical stories that are just a bang up good read, but it’s the publishing industry plus a cadre of liberal authors pushing the agenda.
I have read Janet Evanovich before. These are comedy books about a comically inept female bounty hunter and the weird people she associates with.
the author is making a big deal out of nothing.
Read Dean Koontz for someone whose characters understand what the right to bear arms means.
I agree with you. I love the Stephanie Plum series, they are hysterical. Every character in the book carries, even her grandmother and guns are illegal in NJ where the book takes place.
I am getting tired of every little nitpick. I am 46 yrs old and I am hardly going to be swayed or brainwashed by a book.
Actually I am getting sick and tired of this toe the line attitude on both sides. We are not zombies, we are individuals with brains.
BTW, Plum Spooky is not really one of the series, it is a filler book!
Im a gun nut. Ive read all of Evanovichs later Stephaney works. Its a female fantasy like Matt Helm. Imagine being able to eat the way she does and still look desirable to her two lovers. (Oh, and two lovers who know each other and get along; fantasy.) Shes not anti-gun. Her character is totally inept. She cant let the characters evelove because if they did the stories would be unworkable. If Stephaney got good with a gun she wouldnt need rescuing all the time. (No plot and no humor.) The humor is driven by her ineptness.
Im guessing Evanavich would have no qualms about defending herself with a gun. I think shes one cool lady.
Yeah, and all your female fans wanna be Ranya..well, at least have her skills with guns and motorcycles, her tenacity, and endurance, her passion, and resolve...
Come to think of it, she had a lot of icky stuff she had to go through....goose bumps thinking of her, even though she's a fictional character.
I like the Stephanie Plum books too. I don’t agree that they are anti-gun. Her books are funny, light reads. Pure escapism. I don’t get my opinions on anything from fiction — I, too, have a brain and can think for myself.
The only thing your novels suffer from is an abundance of awesomeness. And that's not really suffering.
I get a big kick out of liberal reviewers getting their panties in a wad about your product. It is highly entertaining in and of itself.
