AUSTIN, Texas - Gov. Rick Perry announced on Thursday afternoon that Texas military helicopters will be sent to help in the battle against "spillover" violence in the Mexico border region.
The governor will deploy the OH-58 Kiowa and UH-72 Lakota helicopters as part of the first phase of the violence contingency plan that he activated on Tuesday.
The helicopters will help local law enforcement officers prevent and detect crime along the border. The aircraft will be flown between Brownsville and El Paso.
"As we continue to increase our resources and personnel along the border to combat the threat of spillover violence, we are deploying multiple Texas Military Forces helicopters to the Texas-Mexico border to increase aerial surveillance," said Gov. Perry.
"These resources, along with Texas Department of Public Safety aviation assets, are vital to gathering information from a birds eye view and relaying important intelligence back to local, state and federal law enforcement on the ground to ensure the safety of our citizens."
The Texas Department of Public Safety has already deployed aircraft in the effort against border violence. The DPS assets include highly sophisticated technological advancements.
The first phase of the states contingency plan against border violence includes increased surveillance of border activity by state and local law enforcement, the Texas Border Security Operations Center, and the Joint Operational and Intelligence Centers to ensure the timely sharing of intelligence information.
Ground, air and maritime patrol presence will also be increased. DPS SWAT Teams and Trooper Strike Teams, and Ranger Recon Teams will also be on standby prepared to tackle border threats.
Gov. Perry has a request pending with the federal government for 1,000 Title 32 National Guardsmen to support civilian law enforcement efforts to enhance border security in Texas. Perry has also requested that predator drones be place in and operate over the Texas-Mexico border to provide essential information to law enforcement on the ground.
He needs to send Texas Guard TAD to Texas Rangers where they become deputized civilian law enforcement officers
The Texas Ragers grew up as an army
I think Perry had the 11/2010 TX Governors race locked up a long time ago, but yeah, this military move certainly helps. As for DC, I saw a headline here on FR that said both TX Senators Hutchison and Cornyn have asked homobama for help, but I’m sure zero has yet to respond.
I’m not in Texas and too often, politicians let us down. But it is good to see a governor say, “Enough is enough” when it comes to this Mexican drug mess!
Hopefully, the military presence will discourage the invaders from cross into the country.
Good for my Gov. Now, if he’d kindly ask Kay Bailey to resign so he can appoint Mark Williams.
Besides Idaho, aren’t there 36 other states with similar pending legislation? I’m sure TX is one of them.
In fact, TX probably would have already passed it long ago, but I’m not sure our legislature is even in session right now. I hear they only work part time in Austin. Which is one reason TX is such a grand state. Our reps don’t spend every weekday of the year trying to craft legislation.
Wow. In that picture, obama looks just as pathetic as Dukakis did when he rode around in that tank.
My neighbor just returned from visiting Mexico for spring break (don’t ask me why). I was told we have a military presence there. I think they were around Reynosa down to South Padre. She said there were a lot of US soldiers/National Guard there.
This was told to me today. I did not see it with my own eyes.
I’m pretty sure our AG is working on it.
Yeah, well Perry has let down many of us here in TX, and I’m sure he’ll do it again, frequently. But on balance, he’s a good governor. Under his leadership, the state is relatively stable, especially compared to all other states in the country.
Texas legislature only convenes every two years.
They were in session last year.
I’m surprised Que Bella Hutchinson hasn’t already resigned, especially after her embarassing loss to Perry in the primaries earlier this month.
He is VERY friendly with his Camel. Don’t ask, don’t tell!
Considering that our legislature ain’t even legislating right now (thanks to berdie for verifying this above), it’d be good for our AG Abott to do what he can to block obamacare on the enforcement front.
I’ve heard that’s not all the AG is looking at. But I do not know first hand.
Do you mean Roger Williams?
The small person is you, punk, hiding behind your little keyboard.
And your precious little Mr. Perry is a lying showman, pandering to a mob; his little show is no different than what Janet Napolitano did in Arizona over three years ago.
The Guard was neutered, disarmed and told to run if any thing bad were to happen. Which they did.
Read the press release, genius. The helicopters are for recon, nothing more.
If you expect me to believe that the man who gave in-state tuition to illegal aliens, panders to them by criticising any attempt at border control, and parrots the McCain line is interested in stopping the mayhem caused by Mexico and Mexican illegal invasion, then you're nuts.
Here's your preciouses Ricky's positions:
Ricky thinks we're all meanies
Ricky spits on citizens of the United States and gives their money to illegal aliens.
That's you're darling Ricky. A slick haired charlatan. Ain't changed, ain't gonna change.
That will come later..............................
He's let the rest of the country down a lot more.
In fact, far as I'm concerned, the SOB done renounced his citizenship back in 2001 the day he signed the illegals bill.
Maybe y'all could secede and join up with Mejico. Should be a real powerhouse when ya do that.
It’s okay, you’re in California now. Relax. You’re safe there.
