It's important to realize that these aren't really "cartels" in the business sense.
They're Mexican crime families, literally Mafia's. They have set up shop in the U.S. through their actual families - and they are using U.S. legal misinterpretations to gain a foothold here (hell, the whole body's here now, not just the feet...).
All those Tio's, Tia's, "My cousin Letty, she works for the county, she knows this guy we can pay...".
That kind of crap. It's driven by illegal immigration: they wouldn't be here otherwise, they wouldn't have any place to go when they got here.
The illegals and their offspring are their bedrock here, the people who pave the way for them. They use affirmative action, discrmination lawsuits, monetary subsidies...anything to insert themselves into the fabric of American life, so they can help the familia in Mexico push their crap North.
So coddling the illegals leads directly to the crime families having gun battles in the streets of America.

I think you would have to agree that the urban areas of all the border states are afflicted with a demographic change that has progressed over the last 50-60 years.
I don’t blame that on any one person. Or any one state.
It is a sign of the times...and political correctness.
We, as individual states, can just do so much. The illegal immigration issue will have to be stopped at the federal level, as will the border security issue. There is a Texas border and a California border...but the crux of the issue is the UNITED STATES (I’m not shouting, I don’t know how to italicize) border. We will recieve little help from the fed, imho.
