More Deals In: Health Care Bill Gives Special Treatment (The bribes still coming in)
fox news ^ | 3/19/2010 | ap

Posted on 03/20/2010 6:01:53 AM PDT by tobyhill

Bye bye, Cornhusker Kickback. Hello, special treatment for Tennessee and North Dakota.

Democrats unveiling revisions Thursday to their health care overhaul bill decided to kill the extra $100 million in Medicaid funds for Nebraska that has become a symbol of backdoor deal making.

But the 153 pages of changes to the massive health care package include extra money for hospitals in Tennessee that serve large numbers of low-income patients. And though the bill would revamp the nation's student loan system to make the government the only lender, one bank — the state-owned Bank of North Dakota — would be allowed to continue making student loans.

That provision ended up rubbing Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., the wrong way. Fearing it would become a target by Republicans in what he said is "an overly heated partisan environment," he asked the House late Thursday to remove it from the legislation.

Still alive is special spending for Louisiana, Connecticut, Montana and other states that was included in the health care bill that the Senate approved in December. The House may give it final approval this weekend.

The content of any final bill is irrelevant! Any federal version of health care is unconstitutional since Article 1 Section 8 does not specifically grant Congress the power to regulate health care! The people are not bound to comply with any unconstitutional act of Congress! This is the point people need to hammer home with their Congress critters!

So if they are still making changes don’t both the Senate and the House need to vote again?

perhaps I’m just naive.

There will be very few changes. Once the Senate bill is deemed passed by the House, the bill will be signed and become law. The Dems can then argue among themselves about the changes but the Senate Reps can stop most of them.

They only have to vote on the changes. The Senate bill will become the law of the land with or without these proposed changes.

The changes go to the Senate? right? The school loan addition is really bad but not a whole lot of mention to it.

Right, but it still takes a vote by both the house and the senate.

The people are not bound to comply with any unconstitutional act of Congress!

That is true. It is also true that the govt has the power to destroy the resisting individuals who won't comply with unconstitutional acts of Congress.

And power needs to flow.

No. The Senate has already passed it’s version of the bill. If the House passes the same exact version, i.e., the Slaughter Rule of deeming that the House has passed it, then there is no need to go back to the Senate for another vote. The only thing that goes back to the senate for a vote is the reconciliation bill that contains changes to the Senate bill. Obama can immediately sign the Senate bill after the House vote.

Right. The ballgame is over once the House votes on the “reconciliation” bill, which contains the Slaughter House rule that the Senate bill is deemed passed by the House.

The constitutionality of joining together two bills for one vote, then splitting them apart again is being questioned by scholars. There is not precedent for this, apparently.

By approving both with one vote, some say, the bill is considered changed immediately and therefore, the amended bill must go back to the Senate.

In other cases where Demon Pass was used, it was one vote on one bill/amendment, not one vote which sufficed for two separate bills/amendments.

You can imagine the can of worms this would open up if once passed, parts of bills could just be cherry picked out and sent to the President for signing, while other parts go back to the Senate black hole. That’s what they will be doing here. Joining two bills together for one vote, then cherry picking the part that has already passed the Senate and sending it to the President.

Thank you as I am also very confused! I thought the Slaughter Rule was if they didn't have the votes, then they'd just "deem" it passed. If they have the votes, doesn't it just pass?

I agree completely. Except I think way less than 30 days. More like 30 hours, and the govt would cave in.

That said, the govt does not have to put 100 million in jail. They could make an awful example of a handful of people, and that would frighten most of the sheeple back into the pen.

KEEP THE CALLS UP! DC OFFICE LOCAL OFFICE

Hold your own street protest in front of your reps local offices. Or busy street corners. Try and get the local media to cover it. Hammer the Medicare/SS issue, nothing like mad grannies and gramps.

This is from a 2007 contact list of congressional aides. Some might not be there any longer, but worth a try. The ones on the one post are senate aides, a few have bounced back, it’s worth the effort to clog up their email system along with the phones, and 1/3rd of these senators are up for re-election.

Mail must be inspected for anthrax takes 2 weeks, so if you snail mail send a post card

Remember they are all being offered BRIBES for their votes. Ask them how much their bribe price is.

The National Republican Congressional Committee has published a target list on health care. In addition to continuing to contact the five Tennessee Democrat Congressmen, you can go http://www.votervoice.net/link/clickthrough/ext/94697.aspx to contact some of these targets. Much of the talk following Obama’s announcement has focused on how to defeat this second bill through reconciliation, but that is misleading because the first step to defeating Obamacare is not by concentrating on defeating the “fixer” bill but by defeating the Senate bill in the House when it goes to the floor for an up-or-down vote on Sunday March 21st.

Jason Altmire 202-225-2565, Aliquippa, 724-378-0928, Natrona Heights, 724-226-1304 (NO)
Michael A. Arcuri (NY-24) NO
Harry Teague NM NO

And here are toll-free numbers we can use to call any Senators or Reps.

At the first number below you must wait through a tape recording urging you to tell your Rep or Senator to vote “yes” for the health care bill. Just hang on and when the recording is over, you will get the Capitol operator. Just ask for your Rep or Senator’s office. Then you will either talk to an aid or have the chance to leave a message for him/her to vote NO on the health care bill.

When you use the second number and the Capitol operator comes on, just ask for your Rep or Senator’s office. Every time I use this number I get the Rep or Senator’s answer machine, so it may be set up that way all the time...to go to their answer machine. Either way you can leave a message to vote NO on the health care bill!

We need to use these toll free numbers that have been set up for the health care/ BO supporters and illegals to use! After all they are FREE!

1-866-220-0044, 1-866-338-1015, 877-851-6437, 877-210-5351

No, the Slaughter House rule just allows the Congressmen the fig leaf that they didn’t vote on just the senate bill but also the changes. In a real democracy, the Congressmen would have been forced on a up and down vote on the Senate bill only. The Senate bill contains many things the House does not like.

The Med in Memphis, is the one they are more specifically targeting, it’s about to go broke treating dead beats and illegals for FREE. It’s the ONLY public hospital in Memphis.

The Dems can do anything they want at any time because they are in control.

We must take control away from them.

They would cave too fast to do that. Goobermint employees are not loyal enough to work for no paychecks.

“That said, the govt does not have to put 100 million in jail. They could make an awful example of a handful of people, and that would frighten most of the sheeple back into the pen. “

That might have worked even a year ago......not now.

I remember reading the very clear legal restrictions, with severe criminal penalties, for trading favors for votes.

Does anyone remember where that is laid out - and why aren't the republicans starting legal procedures?

The GOP should just save it till election time then during a press conference or a debate ask the Rat opponent if they were aware of the law against taking bribes for votes? If they answer no then just respond with, “ignorance of the law is no excuse for breaking the law”.

This is only if the favor comes from a private party. If it is a government emolument, full steam ahead!

Hardly. That will trigger a number of lawsuits by States Attorneys General in a number of States challenging the mandates in the Senate bill.

Also, Landmark Legal will file its lawsuit challenging the House procedures on constitutional grounds.

It ain’t over by a long shot.

Sorry, but the law suits are a slim reed for hope that they will overturn this legislation. They should be filed, but the only way to undo this monster is through more legislation.

The fight will continue and get more contentious, which Obama hopes can energize his base before the mid terms. The Reps will be the obstrtuctionists and the party of No. The community agitator will be in full throat castigating his enemies and touting his success.

I disagree. The States’ suits RE: mandates, have a very good chance of succeeding. The Virginia AG will file in The Rocket Docket, which hopefully will live up to its reputation for speed.

I hope he will also be asking for an injunction to stop the law in its tracks while the suit travels to the USSC.

But you’re ready to give up if the Houses passes the bills tomorrow. Why would you give up while there are still moves on the table that could bring victory?

Don't be a fool. I never said I was giving up. The fight will just shift from Congress to the courts, to the polls, and to the streets. A revolution is starting.

This will be my last post for now since I am headed for the Capitol to participate in the Code Red demonstration at the Capitol. I was just at a demonstration yesterday at George Mason against Obama's appearance touting Obamacare. What are you doing to stop this thing?
