Tim Mak at FrumForum is debunking each of Debbie Schlussel's allegations against Sean Hannity and Freedom Alliance.
Schlussel has been unreliable in the past, and in retrospect I should have approached her report with more skepticism (the lede sentence on my post this morning -- "This is disgusting" -- should have been something more like "If this is true, it's disgusting"). I apologize to Hannity, and (much more importantly) to our readers.

She has exposed herself, AT BEST, as an attention whore eaten alive by hate, and at worst, as a lib sympathizer— given the timing of her attack.
You know who's unreliable? John Tabin, who--this morning posted excerpts of my column and endorsed them--and then did a 180 when Sean Vannity threatened his boss Bob Tyrell, the editor of this once great publication. It's hilarious that repeating a CYA press release put out by the rip-off charity at issue is now "debunking." Tabin didn't even read the "debunking" yet b/c it's still being put up piecemeal, since there's actually no "debunking" going on at all. You can't debunk Freedom Alliance's tax forms, unless you are admitting they committed tax fraud.
In fact, the Freedom Alliance “response” doesn’t answer any of the questions I raised and goes on to lie more. They don’t address why they gave a triple amputee only $200—and in fact there are many of these examples provided in their tax return addendum, but I only cited a few for brevity’s sake. They also lie and claim that they gave a lot more money to charity b/c they categorize it as “program expenses.” But I’m sorry—calling $3 million in consulting fees, printing, and postage “program expenses” doesn’t change the fact that it still went to their cronies, not to a fund and not the soldiers who only got on average less than $900 apiece. It also doesn’t change the fact that out of the money spent (I didn’t use the money they claim they raised for their scholarship fund) the vast majority goes to those kinds of expenses.
Also, the “scholarship fund” is really a war chest for something else. We’ve been at war since 2001, when we went into Afghanistan, and we’re winding down in Iraq. Unless the kids were born in 2001 or thereafter, many of these kids are in college now and Freedom Alliance is giving them a pittance toward their college tuition, while they continue to build this massive warchest. With a giant multi-million dollar fund, why aren’t they giving the kids a free, complete ride to college? And how many kids of deceased troops will there be in the future? Enough to exhaust a multi-million dollar fund? Doubtful.
Moreover, because they hoarded millions of dollars, their returns show the fund shrunk by several million dollars with bad investments and market losses. That money could have put these kids through college for the entire time. What’s their excuse for the soldiers with no limbs and with severe burns? Are they waiting for two decades from now when technology is better? $165 for a soldier who is blind and his face blew up? No excuse for that. Their “response” is simply a non-response and an attempt to cover up the fraud. How sad that John Tabin and the American Spectator are going along. Tells me a lot about your journalistic integrity: You have none.

I have learned never to trust anything that Debbie Schussel has to say. She is just a nasty, self absorbed huckster. Her rebuttal to this article is a good example of her work. She’s baked a nonsense pie and now she’s demanding that everyone eat it.

Debbie hates any conservative that gets more attention than she does, especially conservative women. She hates Coulter and Malkin, has viciously attacked Sarah Palin, and despises Sean Hannity. She fancies herself in the Peggy Noonan/Kathleen Parker mold, but just can’t understand why Meet the Press isn’t giving her a call every Sunday.
I’ve never been a Schlussel fan, so I’m baffled as to her motives for this smear—you hit on the one possibility that seems to make sense: a trojan liberal?

Exactly...this is what I mean when I say FR can be an ugly place. I kept calling this story BS and many on FR said Sean really needs to address this NOW! We are in the middle of losing our country as we know it and Sean is working his ass off to get people out there to be a part of the solution, yet many on here were calling him out to address this NOW! If Sean had to address every accusation about him...that’s all he would be doing. Again, PATHETIC!

There has been bad blood for years. I have seen Deb claim that Sean was not crediting her for this or that scoop and I’ll bet she was right on that stuff at least

I don’t listen to Hannity or watch his TV show. I just had to give up all that stress-producing barrage of information after a heart attack 3 years ago, so I don’t listen to or watch anything like that much. Sometimes MSNBC for pure amusement at watching them slobber and froth. I do know personally some of the performers and musicians who have worked with Hannity on these gigs, however. One in particular is a very wise man and good steward of the gifts God has given him. He would NOT be fooled into doing such a thing as donating his talent and time to a fraudulent charity. That’s all I have to go on, but it’s enough for me.
Probably - and kind of naive of me to trust in posters’ committment to the conservative cause...
But this is still my first site to go to for all political info - I go to others afterward - and I love the folks who are “regulars” - sanity in the midst of shear LUNACY!!!!!

I’m not Sean’s greatest fan- but it was really hard to believe and I was hoping there was no truth to any of her “research”. I’m delighted and relieved.
sean is annoying but i don’t believe he’s dishonest or self-enriching, i don’t doubt his sincerity in supporting the troops. the organization has to rise or fall on it’s own numbers, but Hannity is a DONOR to the charity, not an administrator so her attempting to attack Hannity via Freedom Alliance is misguided.

It is either incompetence or sleeper agents but either way, there was a lot of judging of Sean.
I appreciate Schlussel’s brave work to expose the Islamic threat to Americans. I read her work regularly and yes, she can be reckless and start unnecessary fights. It seems that her personal attacks are becoming more frequent. Sean Hannity can simply ignore her. And hopefully she gets more respect for genuine authority.
There is such a thing, however, as “malicious stupidity”.

I’m glad Hannity is vindicated, and for those who took my rather benign questions/comments about it PERSONALLY, I would encourage you to afford others their opinions or questions on the matter.
But the vindication of Hannity does not grant you a free pass to smear FReepers who expressed doubt about this charity without any malicious intent.
So anyone who did question Hannity and the charity are “pathetic”. Anyone who has doubts or questions about anything in the future are to remain silent on the matter? Are we not allowed to express our opinions in your mind?

No...I will not chill out. It’s one thing to question and it’s another to say he has to address this NOW and statements about how the libs are going to run with this story and how it will make us (conservatives) look bad, while the country is headed for the shitter. The comments about how Hannity was keeping silent like the way Bush was and did not fight the constant accusations from the liberal media...etc. There were many uncalled for comments, IMO that went beyond just questioning. I never called out any FReepers by name and I do not remember your comments. But again...I linked to a liberal website from 2006 that had basically the same crap that this Debbie BITCH was spewing and yet many people here chose to question Hannity over her (and her intentions). I am sorry...but I am not smearing anyone here...but if you/they side with someone who has a history of of this crap(Debbie), I will not hesitate to give my opinion.
