WASHINGTON (AP) -- Democratic lawmakers say party leaders are considering winning crucial support from abortion foes for health care overhaul legislation with an executive order by President Barack Obama.
The order - which does not require congressional approval - would be aimed at reflecting long-standing law barring federal aid for abortions except for cases of rape or incest or when the mother's life is threatened.
Democratic Reps. Henry Waxman of California and James Oberstar of Minnesota both said an executive order was under discussion by party leaders.

This seems pretty asinine to me. There are about 30 Dems in Congress who would have NOW and Planned Parenthood up their backsides in two seconds.

That would be absolute garbage on so many levels.
First of all, as a senator, Obama was one of the few supporters of the law to allow “failed” abortions, meaning if the late term child actually accidentally poped out before it could be killed, the “physician” could just sit the live child aside and let it die of exposure.
He is an EXTREME pro abortion bastard, he will never follow through on this.
Second, if he does this, when Republicans get the Whitehouse they can then have the precedent to pass any and all major legislation with a simple executive order including overturning SCOTUS rulings et.al.
The language I believe would have to nonetheless be removed from the Senate Bill, catch 22.

Executives orders are only good for as long as the president is in power.
Let's hope it does and it keeps these nasty Dems at odds with each other.
Stupak will probably accept it because he really wants to vote for this abomination.
This story is for dumb people who the Dims think that they fool into putting pressure on Stupek to support this bill, not Stupek.
