BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC) - A reporter for an NBC affiliate in Louisiana was rushed to the emergency room after she was bitten by a pitbull.
Reporter Emily Turner, from WVLA in Baton Rouge, was working on a story featuring pitbulls on Friday after several area residents were attacked by the feisty canines.
Turner was interviewing a family who owned a pitbull, to show how safe the animals can be, when she got a little bit more than she bargained for.
During the interview the family's pitbull, named Polo, lunged at Turner and bit her on the wrist.
Doctors treated Turner and she is recovering at home.
Animal control officials will quarantine Polo for 10 days to make sure he does not have rabies.
Thank God she didn’t put her head in it’s mouth...
I’m kinda surprised she didn’t, but what do I know.
Hope she didn’t get hurt too bad. I wouldn’t wish that on her.
Wow this is certainly breaking news. A reporter was bitten on the hand/wrist, then treated and released.
Another tragic story here.....
>Turner was interviewing a family who owned a pitbull, to show how safe the animals can be, when she got a little bit more than she bargained for.
OK, but she should have more journalistic integrity by swimming with a killer whale dressed as a baby seal.
"Oh, look at the nice puppy."
Old saying in the news biz: Dog biting man (or woman) is not a news story. Man biting dog is.
I understand the point that you’re trying to make, but any decent dog would bite a member of the MSM.
True... But dog biting woman, now there’s a story. ;-)
Another $50.00 contribution to my local pitbull rescue.
Pit bulls were bred to kill other dangerous dogs. It’s no surprise they attack so many people each year.
Yeah, right. Show us the cancelled checks.
I use my PayPal account.
last one of the litter left alive. Poor dog is so stuffed he can’t even lift his head.
I use my PayPal accounts so that the poor animals receive their succor almost immediately that an attack on them comes across my screens.
karma is a bitch, ain’t it.....LMFAO
An attack on THEM? How ‘bout THEIR attacks on people? Stating FACTS is hardly an “attack”.
I can only hope your money is used to put these killing machines down.
A fool and his money are soon parted.
Don’t believe the propaganda! They are no more dangerous or prove to bite than Golden Retrievers!
You must be a very poor man.
“Animal control officials will quarantine Polo for 10 days to make sure he does not have rabies.”
No need. Polo don’t have rabies. Polo’s just a pit bull.
How many times have I read that? Seriously...
I hear ya.
Breed bans are lousy. I would hate to see pit bulls banned because it goes against conservative principle. But folks who invest so much emotion and money into pit bull "rescue" should be treated like retailers and held responsible for the consequences when the product they pitch kills or maims people. But they don't think dogs, including pit bulls, are products. They think they're four-legged humans.
Discriminating against a pit bull is not the same as racism. The whole pit bull rescue mentality seem to pitch the line that "if you just give these dogs a chance, if you just treat them well, they'll be loving and gentle!" No, that's not what happens, because they're a certain kind of dog. We're talking dogs, man's rightful best friend, useful workmate, and/or companion. Some are bred for catching rats, some for fetching fowl, some for herding, some as weapons. They're a blessing and part of how we got here. But they're dogs. Not people.
I don't have a problem with chihuahua rescues because they're not condoning that you take on a pet that can kill you or someone around you. If you screw up and are a "bad doggy mommy/daddy" with a chihuahua, all you are is a minor pain in the ass to friends and relatives. If you do the same with a pit bull, lives are in danger.
I wonder how a pit bull rescue devotee would feel if she or he found out a pit bull adopted from their rescue ended up killing some older lady weeding her own rose garden, or mauled into a grotesque some 3-year-old kid.
If they were serious about seeing that pit bulls were protected from being banned, they'd start advocating the truth, which is that this breed is great for certain things, but downright dangerous for other things. It's like any idiot who'd get an Australian Shepherd and expect to be able to keep the dog in an apartment and walked an hour a day. The dog would go insane. A basset hound or a little terrier, on the other hand, would probably be fine with that. That's not canine racism, that's just a fact.
That dog is a weapon, looks well-trained and intelligent for his job, which is a worthy job. Maybe dogs like that are what helped Christians win the crusades, as Muslims consider dogs "unclean," the bozos.
A cattle dog is a tool, a workmate. A lap dog is a companion. A sled dog is race team member. Dogs have a lot of dignity in their jobs, and they deserve respect for their dignity. When you take a cattle dog and try to make him a companion, you're ignoring his dignity. I suppose if you take a warrior dog and try to make him the "little buddy" of the family, you'd be ignoring his dignity too. That's not what he was bred to do.
I agree with your comments.
I got word back soon after Rocky arrived at his little slice of heaven. The guy who bought him put all his dogs in the back of his truck for a turkey run. He drove the truck over a little hill when about two dozen turkey crossed the road. He said that Rocky was the first one out of the bed of the truck and he grabbed the biggest turkey by the neck, holding it until the guy got out of the truck to get a hold of it. This seasoned hunter said he'd never seen anything like it before.
Rocky passed away about five years ago. But I know we made the right decision.
You sound like a wonderful person.
