Posted on 03/21/2010 8:45:05 AM PDT by GOP_Lady
Former Massachusetts governor and 2008 GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney predicted that President Obama's massive health care bill would be passed by Congress, and he outlined a legislative strategy to overturn the bill by cutting off the funding necessary to implement it.
Speaking in Dallas yesterday as part of the publicity tour for his new book, No Apology: The Case for American Greatness, Romney said that the key to his plan was for the GOP to reclaim majorities in both houses of Congress as well as the White House.
Romney said that those members voting for the health care bill were guilty of "clueless behavior", and he predicts heavy losses heavy losses for Democrats in this year's midterm elections. "The American people are not going to stand still for this bill and the government running our healthcare, said Romney. "The American people will be with us and they will throw those guys out."

RomneyCare = ObamaCare.
Nice idea, wrong person proposing it though
I’m glad R’s are starting to talk about this as a platform item. But what about REPEAL THE STIMULUS.
I don’t care who proposes it, just show me the guy that can get it done and he has my support.
Romney is backing McCain who helped elected a Dem Congress 2006/2008 and Obama with McCain Feingold. Ditto Palin, Fred, Kyl, Newt and other RINOs supporting McCain.
Romney?! He’s part of the problem, not the solution.
I hear ya - but ya know, everyone is going to run on this idea.
He has no credibility here. His plan is just a state-sized version of it.
Yeah, but old “flip-flop” didn’t want to overturn HIS RomneyCare, did he. This guy spins in the breeze, duh, where’s it blowing from today, huh Marge?
Well he should know..
To bad Mr Hair didn’t include that strategy in his Masscare plan!!
Barbie’s Ken is at it again!
Well there you have it.
Romney has just been picked to be the frontrunner for the GOP.
He will or already has began to campaign on how to get rid of the monstrosity that was (will be) voted on today. That he recognized and showed the people that don’t like it that he has a way to get rid of it will help to propel him upwards in his campaign as the GOP’s frontrunner for POTUS.
Smart guy. I still don’t want to have to vote for him though. Ironic he created the same bloated donkey of a law for Boston isn’t it?
‘...just show me the guy that can get it done and he has my support.”
Make double-sure the guy you support is telling the truth, and not pandering to your desires to win votes and support.
“I dont care who proposes it, just show me the guy that can get it done and he has my support.”
Point, game & match.
So quickly as I typed someone already said what I figured many would. He’s creating a big bandwagon to jump on.
That he promoted the same crap in mass. will hurt him badly - very badly.
If he can articulate well that it was a major mistake and somehow shift some blame he’ll have a better shot - but we know better.
Yeah, he’s got a lot of room to talk about socialized medicine and how “bad” it is....
Did I miss something?
Did this RINO use the past month to campaign actively against socialist medicine using HIS OWN FAILED SYSTEM AS AN EXAMPLE???
THEN ROMNEY, STFU AND GO BUY a million copies of your own book.
Kind of ironic coming from someone who has and would implement his own brand of socialist disaster.
As far as cutting off funding, I guess he thinks he’s a political genius and nobody else ever thought of that.
Piss on Romney and all his socialist-loving sycophants.
“Ironic he created the same bloated donkey of a law for Boston isnt it?”
I think that in the past Mitt supported the idea of making Romneycare mandatory, but at the individual state level- let each state figure out how to implement the fed mandate, as long as they met certain fed standards. I don’t have the reference handy, though.
Remember Alinsky. Never let a crisis go to waste. Romney has set on the sidelines on the health care bill, and now that it’s really happening and is a crisis, he’s going to jump on it.
Too late, should have spoken up sooner and provided leadership when something could be done about it.
Defunding programs is temporary and repels votes.
Repeal is the only option.
That requires the Presidency, both Houses and a veto-proof majority in the Senate.
Saying he has a plan is disingenuous.
Coming from a guy who spins the health care bill he signed, I’d say Mitt should just get lost on this subject.
Well, cutting off funding is a good sound bite, but it still leaves the law on the books. It’s not the answer. Neither is talking out of both sides of one’s mouth as Romney is prone to do. He defends his Massachusetts health care fiasco, yet uses the unpopularity of the federal version of the same to gain support for 2012. Romney will never, ever, get my support.
This clown just doesn’t know when to stop.
Im glad Rs are starting to talk about this as a platform item. But what about REPEAL THE STIMULUS.
The time for this platform was before Nov 2008. It’s too late. This is all posturing by Republicans.Healthcare takes a treacherous turn at some point today.
Aborting this plan before it is born is the only surefire way to kill it!
I agree and it’s not “clueless behavior”. It’s treason.
I like it, please can we allow ourselves to build some momentum? It is gutsy and concrete for Romney to lay this out there.
How about MR over turns RomneyCare first.
If it works I really don’t care whose idea it is.
Speaking in Dallas yesterday as part of the publicity tour for his new book, No Apology
PROOF THAT OBAMACARE/ROMNEYCARE IS A PROVEN FINANCIAL FAILURE
"Health Care Speechwriter for Edwards, Obama & Clinton Now Without Health Insurance"
I'm a critic because what Washington is talking about doing
has made health insurance unaffordable in Massachusetts.
"Small businesses bridle at health insurance hikes (Romneycare strangles Mass. businesses)
some really bad news from Blue Cross-Blue Shield: His company's health insurance rates are going up 47 percent in January."
"Paying the Health Tax in Massachusetts [Romneycare]
Unless we ponied up for a pricier policy we
neither need nor want-or enrolled in a government-sponsored insurance plan-we
would have to pay $1,000 each year to the state.
How did we become outlaws?"
"Mr. Romney should have known better before signing on to this not-so-grand experiment, especially since the state's "free market" reforms that he boasts about have proven to be irrelevant when not fictional.
Only 21,000 people have used the "connector" that was supposed to link individuals to private insurers."
A Very Sick Health Plan; Bay State's 'Grand Experiment' Fails [RomneyCare]
Even though the Bay State commenced its program with a far smaller percentage of uninsured residents than exists nationwide,
"RomneyCare" is threatening to bankrupt the state."
Every single non-dem will run on this same idea.
it’s not like he’s the first one to think of this.
GEEZ...Mitt the attention whore!
“That he promoted the same crap in mass. will hurt him badly - very badly.”
Great point, and we need to back candidates who aren’t so tainted otherwise we risk wasting our votes. Guys trying to play both sides will lose elections, and rightfully so.
I am thankful, however, for all who speak out with ideas/gameplans for the future. Communism is at our doorstep and it must be killed.

No Votes for Mitt RomneyCARE or Ron Paul or Huckabee .... 0 votes (none, zed, nada, doughnut, oh-no)
Didn’t he give it to Massachusetts? He’ll never get my vote.....
One of the principal reasons Obamacare has come this far is that people saw RomneyCare implemented - and they don't see its failures, just that it passed.
So Mitt Romney bears a great deal of personal responsibility if Obamacare passes.
Everything the 111th has done needs to be rolled back.
I want to hear, clear and strong and repeated ad nauseum, that healthcare is not constitutionally the federal government's business. And I want to hear Romney talking publicly about what a mistake Massachusetts healthcare was and why government running healthcare is a bad idea.
Withholding funding is a temporary stopgap at best, certainly not worthy of an election platform.
Mitt needs to practice this theory by overturning RomneyCare in Mass first. Then maybe we’ll believe he’s no longer a socialist RINO
I propose an amendment to the U.S. constitution initiated by the states. Already something like 34 states want to challenge the law. Why not amend the constitution and end this nightmare once and for all?
It could be an amendment that addresses health care alone or could be broader, along the lines that the federal govt has no authority to force citizens to buy any particular good or service.
We would need two thirds of the states to call a convention and three fourths to ratify the amendment. Sounds like a tall order but given the revulsion to the law I think it is doable. Every state will have to raise taxes to cover the additional Medicaid costs.
Would that be his RomneyCare bill? Excellent Idea Mitt.
When you’ve completed that task, get back to me.
Mitt-Witt is just like the arsonist who sets a house in his own neighborhood on fire, but joins up with the Volunteer Fire Department to fight the really big blaze across town.
Screw Mitt-Witt, he’s not the answer, he’s part of the problem.
Given a Hobson’s choice between Romney and the annointed one, I will pinch my nose and vote Romney, a bit less reluctantly than I voted for McCain.
Wow. That's a brilliant plan. I stand in awe.
By the way, which Romney is this?
We can trust Romney to lead us all out of socialist hell like he did for Mass. /s/
