Ann Coulter is currently on a speaking tour in Canada. She will be speaking in Ottawa on Tuesday and a far leftist official from the University of Ottawa has sent her a notice of pre-emptive censorship.
There may be fireworks in Ottawa to great Ann.
Full text of letter to Ann Coulter:
“Dear Ms. Coulter,I understand that you have been invited by University of Ottawa Campus Conservatives to speak at the University of Ottawa this coming Tuesday. We are, of course, always delighted to welcome speakers on our campus and hope that they will contribute positively to the meaningful exchange of ideas that is the hallmark of a great university campus. We have a great respect for freedom of expression in Canada, as well as on our campus, and view it as a fundamental freedom, as recognized by our Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. I would, however, like to inform you, or perhaps remind you, that our domestic laws, both provincial and federal, delineate freedom of expression (or “free speech”) in a manner that is somewhat different than the approach taken in the United States. I therefore encourage you to educate yourself, if need be, as to what is acceptable in Canada and to do so before your planned visit here. You will realize that Canadian law puts reasonable limits on the freedom of expression. For example, promoting hatred against any identifiable group would not only be considered inappropriate, but could in fact lead to criminal charges. Outside of the criminal realm, Canadian defamation laws also limit freedom of expression and may differ somewhat from those to which you are accustomed. I therefore ask you, while you are a guest on our campus, to weigh your words with respect and civility in mind. There is a strong tradition in Canada, including at this University, of restraint, respect and consideration in expressing even provocative and controversial opinions and urge you to respect that Canadian tradition while on our campus. Hopefully, you will understand and agree that what may, at first glance, seem like unnecessary restrictions to freedom of expression do, in fact, lead not only to a more civilized discussion, but to a more meaningful, reasoned and intelligent one as well.

It's unlikely they would dare, the official censors have been taking a beating by the public lately in Canada so they would likely be too cowardly to try to take on Ann Coulter. I think for the most part this was a threat for domestic consumption.

Of course at a university, the restrictions on speech should be even less. They should tolerate and encourage the expression of event the most fringe ideas.

There’s a problem with that. Even if there was a massive voter turn out and a big enough push-back to wipe the legislative branch of all current incumbents who’ve made a habit of betraying their oath by betraying our nation, it wont matter in the long run.
The Long Marchers still own the greater majority of our education system. The enemy ideology loving filth of the left are massive enough in number to be a consistent problem. The left has no respect for the laws governing issues relating to elections and never have had. Our law enforcement agencies refuse to enforce those laws.
The lines may be drawn differently. The “root causes” may be different. But, we’re in 1860 mode and have been for awhile now. It’s just getting to the point of being impossible to ignore or deny any more.

First of all, we encourage you to restrict the enjoyment of your marijuana (medical or otherwise) to the privacy of your Canadian Ivory Tower. Should you cross the border, I encourage you to resist the urge to pull over and start a grow operation upon seeing one of our fruited plains.
If you should find yourself in Washington, D.C., I encourage you to visit the National Archives to see the Bill of Rights. You may want to acquaint yourself with the First Amendment, which guarantees many rights to Americans, including Freedom of Speech. You may be unfamiliar with a legal document such as this that actually means what it says.
You point out that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms “respect[s] freedom of expression.” Well, I am currently living in China. The Constitution here also guarantees freedom of speech. Actually, the world is full of Constitutions that guarantee freedom of speech or conscience, at least on paper. Fortunately, there are many good people in Canada who are fighting to keep your country from going the way of China (Chinese Constitution, Article 35), Cuba (Cuban Constitution, Article 53), or Iran (Iranian Constitution, Article 23).
Anyway, I hope that you enjoy your visits to the United States. One last piece of advice: don’t try to bring any fruit across the border.
