Ann Coulter is currently on a speaking tour in Canada. She will be speaking in Ottawa on Tuesday and a far leftist official from the University of Ottawa has sent her a notice of pre-emptive censorship.
There may be fireworks in Ottawa to great Ann.
Full text of letter to Ann Coulter:
Dear Ms. Coulter,I understand that you have been invited by University of Ottawa Campus Conservatives to speak at the University of Ottawa this coming Tuesday. We are, of course, always delighted to welcome speakers on our campus and hope that they will contribute positively to the meaningful exchange of ideas that is the hallmark of a great university campus. We have a great respect for freedom of expression in Canada, as well as on our campus, and view it as a fundamental freedom, as recognized by our Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. I would, however, like to inform you, or perhaps remind you, that our domestic laws, both provincial and federal, delineate freedom of expression (or free speech) in a manner that is somewhat different than the approach taken in the United States. I therefore encourage you to educate yourself, if need be, as to what is acceptable in Canada and to do so before your planned visit here. You will realize that Canadian law puts reasonable limits on the freedom of expression. For example, promoting hatred against any identifiable group would not only be considered inappropriate, but could in fact lead to criminal charges. Outside of the criminal realm, Canadian defamation laws also limit freedom of expression and may differ somewhat from those to which you are accustomed. I therefore ask you, while you are a guest on our campus, to weigh your words with respect and civility in mind. There is a strong tradition in Canada, including at this University, of restraint, respect and consideration in expressing even provocative and controversial opinions and urge you to respect that Canadian tradition while on our campus. Hopefully, you will understand and agree that what may, at first glance, seem like unnecessary restrictions to freedom of expression do, in fact, lead not only to a more civilized discussion, but to a more meaningful, reasoned and intelligent one as well.
I hope you will enjoy your stay in our beautiful country, city and campus.
Sincerely,
François Houle. ‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑ Vice-recteur aux études / Vice-President Academic and Provost Université dOttawa / University of Ottawa 550, rue Cumberland Street Ottawa (ON) K1N 6N5 téléphone / telephone : 613 562-5737 télécopieur / fax : 613 562-5103 www.uOttawa.ca/vr-etudes-academic
Fascist baste-rd.
Bomb Canada.
>>Hopefully, you will understand and agree that what may, at first glance, seem like unnecessary restrictions to freedom of expression do, in fact, lead not only to a more civilized discussion, but to a more meaningful, reasoned and intelligent one as well. <<
No, they just lead to fascism. Free speech for me but not for thee.
“in a manner that is somewhat different than the approach taken in the United States.”
Yes.
We have freedom.
They do not.
Too many of these Canadian embrace fascist solutions for my comfort. Eventually we’ll have to go up there and rid that country of such notions. Presumably we’ll rid our own countrymen of the same ideas.

The censors in Canada are on a rampage. They have now progressed from censoring words that have already been written to censoring words that may someday be spoken.
. . .
. . .
. . .
...

What country have you been living in recently?
>>Presumably well rid our own countrymen of the same ideas.<<
Not until 2010 at the earliest — and, God willing, 2012 at the latest.
I wonder what would happen if they tried to press charges against Ann?
I have many customers up there and they all think the Clintons and Obama’s are loved universally in the U.S.
I tell them to take their collective heads out of the anus of CNN and MSNBC.
Shouldn’t François Houle be arrested for hatefully threatening American visitors?
I’m scared to visit Canada now!
We should have the British and French bastards out of Canada 200 years ago. We should block those damned Canucks from wintering in our country. I’ll be on a look out for them on the road and might make their journey back to Canada a little more interesting.
It's unlikely they would dare, the official censors have been taking a beating by the public lately in Canada so they would likely be too cowardly to try to take on Ann Coulter. I think for the most part this was a threat for domestic consumption.
That Canadian bitch should be brought up on charges for her hate speech in her letter.
Of course at a university, the restrictions on speech should be even less. They should tolerate and encourage the expression of event the most fringe ideas.
At least, that’s what they say when a Marxist advocates violence.
My dear Francois— here’s my answer in vietnamese—
phuc U
Canadian laws of expression do not govern Americans.
So then we’ll start to see more prosecutions of Muslims on Canadian Campuses who attack Jews and defame Israel in speech and in written publications?
In other words, this is a communist country and you must not speak out against the people or the Government. You risk being sent to a Gulag. Love Canada
Actually “not guilty”. LOL
A lot of the Canucks that are down here are the ones that LIKE and AGREE with us and most of them are older. Taking it out on them does nothing. People like the creep that wrote this don’t stray to far from their academic ivory tower. It makes it easier to stay away from the real world and the people in it.Not all the regular folks up there are like this, it’s the usual suspects, academics, politicians, greenies, welfare class and people that declare themselves a protected extra-special minority. It’s harder to vote the riff raff out the way their government is set up.
Thank you Francois for the advance publicity and build-upYou just set the stage, sir. Do students at your institution actually accede to your peremptory censorship???
The Canadian troops serving in NATO in Afghanistan have conducted themselves with great distinction. Yes, they are there for freedom. Would that contemporary academic bureaucrats attain even even a fraction of their worth.
Kindly take your law and shove it, François.

In the meantime, do import the above into your miserable Canuck browser.
Really? You’d really drive them out? Please do!

Hey Francois,
Ms. Coulter will not be intimidated by your veiled threats. You’d do well to remember she is a lawyer. Hope that she doesn’t come to your Fascist fiefdom prepared with a legal brief on which she can hang you by your own petard.
I wonder what would happen if they tried to press charges against Ann?From the OTHER thread:
Messenger: Choose your next words carefully, Leonidas.Excellent! They may be your last as king.
May History repeat itself...
...and the threatening words of this current "messenger" from Ottowa also be turned back against himself......just as they were against the PREVIOUS messenger from a corrupt, would-be tyrant:

:o)
“Not until 2010 at the earliest and, God willing, 2012 at the latest.”
There’s a problem with that. Even if there was a massive voter turn out and a big enough push-back to wipe the legislative branch of all current incumbents who’ve made a habit of betraying their oath by betraying our nation, it wont matter in the long run.
The Long Marchers still own the greater majority of our education system. The enemy ideology loving filth of the left are massive enough in number to be a consistent problem. The left has no respect for the laws governing issues relating to elections and never have had. Our law enforcement agencies refuse to enforce those laws.
The lines may be drawn differently. The “root causes” may be different. But, we’re in 1860 mode and have been for awhile now. It’s just getting to the point of being impossible to ignore or deny any more.
I like this from Free Dominion, posted by a guy that interivewed her on his radio show (Strictly Right):
I find it interesting that the way to spell Ann Coulter in the Canadian Language is Anne Coulter.
Maikeru wrote: Well done lads!
I was fascinated by a side comment Anne made.
When asked which of her 7 NYT Bestsellers was her favourite, she replied that Slander; Treason; and Godlesss were more a trilogy:
Slander is the Method
Treason is the Goal
Godless is the Underlying Motivation
Who knew books about Canada would be so darn popular in New York?
Haha, when I heard her say that I was quite impressed needless to say. I had read all of them in the order they came out, but never quite saw the underlying theme of the progression of the Leftist manifesto. We had a nice chat about that after the show when we were still on the phone and she revealed that she thinks she's most proud of Guilty (until her next book comes out.)
: > )
Correction, before “hope and Chains”, we had freedom.
Coulter’s speech should be great. Hope she gives this creep a yell out.
Dear François:
Thank you for your unsolicited letter to our friend, Ann Coulter. First of all, we appreciate your writing in English and also doing it so well, François. We promise not to tell your friends in Quebec, the land of the repressive language laws.
Since you may one day join Premier Danny Williams and other fellow Canadians by heading south to take advantage of our advanced medical care, I would like to inform you that a few things that are somewhat different from what you may be used to in Canada.
First of all, we encourage you to restrict the enjoyment of your marijuana (medical or otherwise) to the privacy of your Canadian Ivory Tower. Should you cross the border, I encourage you to resist the urge to pull over and start a grow operation upon seeing one of our fruited plains.
If you should find yourself in Washington, D.C., I encourage you to visit the National Archives to see the Bill of Rights. You may want to acquaint yourself with the First Amendment, which guarantees many rights to Americans, including Freedom of Speech. You may be unfamiliar with a legal document such as this that actually means what it says.
You point out that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms “respect[s] freedom of expression.” Well, I am currently living in China. The Constitution here also guarantees freedom of speech. Actually, the world is full of Constitutions that guarantee freedom of speech or conscience, at least on paper. Fortunately, there are many good people in Canada who are fighting to keep your country from going the way of China (Chinese Constitution, Article 35), Cuba (Cuban Constitution, Article 53), or Iran (Iranian Constitution, Article 23).
Anyway, I hope that you enjoy your visits to the United States. One last piece of advice: don’t try to bring any fruit across the border.
Very truly yours,
James
...EXACTLY the right "hot button" to push......in her upcoming speech to those young Canadian skulls full of mush...
...to drive their uptight PC-fascist masters absolutely BONKERS! :o)

Since you may one day join Premier Danny Williams and other fellow Canadians by heading south to take advantage of our advanced medical care...Bingo!
This could be a big winner!
Imagine Ann Coulter getting arrested for her "hate speech" against the socialist Canadian health care system!
It would be PERFECT timing......and would certainly help to frame the current lurch to the left in OUR health care laws.
An alternative "hot button" for Ann to mash...
...is to tweak their knee-jerk "Muslim terrorist-coddling" impulse. :o)

“François A. Houle.”
Can’t make this up.
