A New Low… Liberal Media Now Running Terri Shiavo “Pull the Plug” Musical Comedy for Children
Gateway Pundit ^ | March 23, 2010 | Jim Hoft

Well, here’s a new low from the godless left… “Family Guy” marked the 5 year anniversary of Terri Shiavo’s court-ordered death by staging a children’s musical comedy about pulling the plug.

Maybe they’re preparing us for Obamacare?

Since when did mocking a family over the court-ordered death of their daughter become good humor?

NewsBusters reported:

Seth MacFarlane marked the five-year-anniversary of Terri Schiavo’s court-ordered death by staging a preschool musical about it in his crass FOX cartoon, “Family Guy.”

MacFarlane denied Schiavo human dignity in the March 21 episode by referring to her in lyrics sung by cartoon preschoolers as “the most expensive plant you’ll ever see” and a “vegetable,” and noted “her mashed potato brains.”

The child who played the role of Schiavo’s husband, Michael, ultimately concluded, “There’s only one solution, it’s in the Constitution, we’ve got to pull the plug.”

“...and people wonder why I’m collecting DVD’s of shows from yesteryear like “Gilligan’s Island”,”The Donna Reed Show”,”The Honeymooners”,”My Three Sons”,and “F-Troop”.”

Yeah...I hear you. I’m just a decade or two ahead. For me it’s the Rockford Files, Magnum PI, Simon & Simon, Quantum Leap, Buck Rogers, etc.

Sorry to say I used to like Family Guy during its first 3 seasons (i.e. the ones prior to its cancellation). I’m part of the reason why it came back on TV as I bought those DVDs when they were released. Please understand it wasn’t as politically charged back then.

Once it made its comeback, it went into “how low can we go” mode. When you design “comedy” to completely piss off an entire group of people, you’re merely being an attention whore. Those are a dime a dozen.

Personally, I’ll never know if Terri ever felt a thing. I am in no way, shape or form a doctor capable of making such determinations. What I do know is that humans have very little understanding of the brain. Doctors freely admit this. I hear of many “permanent vegetative state” victims snap out of their coma and begin functioning again.

The decision to yank the plug on that woman was absurd as she had a family WILLING to take care of her for as long as it would take. I hope that Terri’s situation will serve as an example for the doctors of 100 years from now on how primitive and stupid we were to do such things.

Well I for one, wouldn’t wonder one bit. Pretty much all I watch is retro TV, some sports and EWTN.

Don’t miss the superlative Andy Griffith Show, McHale’s Navy and Dick Van Dyke Show though. Not to mention most of the great Hanna Barbara output if you like ‘toons.

The sad fact about this TV show is how it desensitizes viewers to the needs of the sick, the helpless, the weak ...the very ones Christ tells us to care for.

I’m beyond being offended by Family Guy. This is the equivalent of “Springtime for Hitler” in The Producers — it is self-consciously, intentionally, and conspicuously offensive. When the purpose of the joke is to offend, then to be offended is to fall prey.

Hitler was an evil man, so perhaps he is worthy of being mocked and made fun of on a national stage. But what crimes did Terri Schiavo commit? No, this is nothing that can be made fun of - if you have a soul. I know that many people here (I'm not one of them) watch Family Guy, which is why there is tolerance for this type of "humor". Hey, next they'll be making fun of one of your children's deaths! Hilarious, right? If they make it personal, it might possibly offend YOU. But if it's not a member of your family, hey, then it's OK.

True, but “Springtime” was at least satire...I’m not so sure about “Family Guy” these days.

“The Producers” ridiculed Adolf Hitler. These ghouls are ridiculing an innocent woman’s death and her family’s pain.

Being offended by nothing isn’t a sign of toughness. It’s a sign a callous indifference.

>> Being offended by nothing isn’t a sign of toughness. It’s a sign a callous indifference.

I never said I was offended by nothing — I said I am not offended by the intentionally offensive. The purpose of this stunt is to provoke outrage. Indifference is the only emotion that Family Guy writers do not want to evoke.

I choose not to participate.

Terry Schaivo deserves no ridicule, and I never said this was “OK”.

I don’t watch Family Guy. Its pretty tedious. But, the specific intent of this writer is to provoke an emotional reaction from people like you and I. I see no reason to grant him the satisfaction. If his stunts are met with indifference, rather than attention and outrage, his impact will be lessened.

The purpose of this stunt is to provoke outrage.

McFarlain is using public airwaves to attack a good family, mock their suffering and ridicule their beloved daughter and sister on a national stage. And you're going to let your own ability to devine the motives of a total stranger determine how you react... which is to conveniently to feel and do nothing.

Have you ever considered that maybe the purpose of this sort of dehumanizing "comedy" is more sinister than what you've considered? That this might be something more than a child growing older stuck on making benign fart noises in class? Or it is just easier for you to believe he's just trying to offend you so you can defy him and claim victory?

Which is pretty much par for the course from this ridiculous show.

>> And you’re going to let your own ability to devine the motives of a total stranger determine how you react...

My analysis of the situation determines my reaction ... the statements, however outlandish, of an irrelevant person simply aren’t worth a reaction.

>> which is to conveniently to feel and do nothing.

As opposed to what? Outrage and whining? Your outrage has been very effective thus far.

>> Have you ever considered that maybe the purpose of this sort of dehumanizing “comedy” is more sinister than what you’ve considered? That this might be something more than a child growing older stuck on making benign fart noises in class?

Have you ever considered that “controversy” fuels the fire? Controversial people thrive on the outrage and righteous indignation. They feed on it. You’re giving him exactly the response he’s looking for ...

While you and I might not watch this "musical", thousands of CHILDREN will. And they will get the idea that it's OK to make fun of a poor woman's death. That is vile. That's not something that should be ignored when brought to our attention. Is Seth MacFarlane going to make fun of the Holocaust victims next, the millions who were killed, and peddle it to children as a CARTOON? You forget who the target audience is: CHILDREN.

Should we just sit idly by, and let him peddle that crap to our children, without saying a word? Indifference is for people who don't care.

And what exactly have apathy and inaction, your cure alls (which I’ve tried myself for most of my adult life), done? Have you noticed the culture all around you? You think it’s enough to shrug when good people are attacked and say “I won’t give them the satisfaction”? That’s what we’ve been doing all along. It’s worked wonders.

The left HATES Terri more than they have ever hated anyone.

They hate everyone who reminds them of what they really ARE.

Witness Sarah Palin. She DARED to continue with a Down's pregnancy and the left went beserk.

If you stand up for the defenseless in any arena, you will be loathed by the 'Progressives.'

Acknowledging that Terri or Trig have a right to live reminds these vermin of their own selfish character. Imagine someone condoning murder so that they will not suffer any inconvenience in their shallow life.

Evil hates light and truth. When someone shines the light on them they will do everything they can to extinguish it.

>> You forget who the target audience is: CHILDREN.

I’m not sure too many kids watch this show. It comes on TV at 9pm ET. I think the vast majority of its demographics are 18-35 year old men — its actual target audience. It is an adult cartoon ...

>> Should we just sit idly by, and let him peddle that crap to our children, without saying a word?

My kids don’t watch this. Parenting — its a beautiful thing.

>> Indifference is for people who don’t care.

Why should I care what Seth McFarlane thinks about anything?

I never said anything was a “cure all”. I don’t think there is a cure. Free will and free speech will inevitably lead to free stupidity.

>> You think it’s enough to shrug when good people are attacked and say “I won’t give them the satisfaction”?

Each instance requires its own response. When the overarching goal is to provoke, resisting provocation is worthwhile. When the goal is attention-getting, ignoring is often worthwhile. When the goal is to inflict pain, stoicism is worthwhile.

I have no problem with the idea of flattening Seth McFarlane ... there is a reason he doesn’t get any airtime in my home ... but moaning about every little insufferable thing he says just isn’t useful.
