UK: MP quizzed by police after saying 'wearing burkha was like having paper bag over your head'
The Daily Mail (U.K.) ^ | March 23, 2010

An MP was investigated by police for inciting racial hatred over controversial comments about the burkha following complaints from a human rights association.

Conservative MP Philip Hollobone said wearing the garment was the religious equivalent of 'going round with a paper bag over your head'.

During a parliamentary debate last month he urged the House of Commons to 'seriously consider' banning the garment.

Now it has emerged police received a complaint about the Kettering MP a few days after his comments from the Northamptonshire Rights and Equality Council (NREC).

Officers rang Mr Hollobone to say a complaint had been made but the Crown Prosecution Service dropped the case a few days later as there were no grounds for prosecution.

Debates in Westminster are protected by parliamentary privilege but Mr Hollobone said the complaint could have related to comments made inside or outside the Commons.

He criticised the 'hypocritical and 'patronising' NREC today for championing freedom of speech while attempting to have him prosecuted.

Well it IS like wearing a bag over your head. Just like praying with your face in the dirt and ass in the air is like asking to be...um...never mind.

But it is like having a bag over your head. It’s just a cloth version of the Unknown Comic...http://i.usatoday.net/life/_photos/2008/07/28/bagx.jpg

I wonder how muslims survive in prison during ‘prayer’ time.

Considering all the Orwellian police state crap I see coming out of the British police, I’m beginning to think we should ban them from entering the United States on the grounds that they are a threat to American citizens.

Wearing a burkha is not like wearing a paper bag on your head. That would be environmentally incorrect.

It's like wearing a reusable cloth bag over your head.

In fact, it is wearing a cloth bag over your head.

Obama will be having the Brits over to instruct the Chicago police in how to be even more fascistic ~ but once his regime is gone it’s time to revise the list to make sure NO British cops ever get to visit this country.

How far we have fallen.

It’s amazing, isn’t it, how everything is degrading in society today - even our perception of freedom?

Fifty years ago, in the “backwards” 50’s and 60’s, people would be furious at being told what to say. Now it is accepted.

I've seen a number of his videos. While he has no love for religion in general he has specifically said that he has far more respect for the typical Christian or Jew than he does for the Religion Of Pieces and many of its followers.

Agreed....he unleashes his very harshest (and in my view, most entertaining, insightful and worthwhile) broadsides against Islam. He has a clarity of perspective on the matter that I wish was shared by more people.

He’s exactly correct - I have one that I got as a souvenir from the troops for sending stuff to Afghanistan.

I got into a fight in prison (did a couple of years at Beeville, Texas why is not important) once because someone asked, "Why do all the Mexicans have their name tattooed across their back?"

I answered, "So the guy behind him knows he is plugging the right guy." One of the guys who heard me took offense.

Islam attacked the UK from the bottom and center...and it is attacking the U.S. from the top (the presidency).

Just as the healthcare bill was rammed down, so will Islam and America's betrayal is Israel, then Christianity be rammed down onto our citizens.

The enemy is on the move!!!

I have heard some Western women say, when they have put on a burkha for the first time, that it is quite a chilling experience when they've considered the breathtaking, inhuman oppression and utterly crushing brutality that goes along with this particular 'garment'.

Indeed.  I find it quite instructive to follow the news from the UK not only to remain up to date on current events but also to be reminded of the paths that Socialism takes once it has its tentacles hooked in a society.  Unfortunately, the cancer has spread far and deep throughout the UK and so it serves as an indicator of things to come here in the USA if we fail to halt its progress.

Even far closer to home, speech is far from being free.  Famous, revered Americans are being advised that they risk prosecution in Canada for 'causing offense through their speech', even before they say anything there.

Right-wing U.S. firebrand Ann Coulter will file grievance with rights panel
