Amish, Muslims to be excused from Obamacare mandate?

Interesting. Democrat Muslim president sets up a special "no pay, but still pay" catagory.

From your link's main page:

Apparently, this exemption will apply similarly to believers in Islam, which considers health insurance - and, for that matter, any form of risk insurance - to be haraam (forbidden).

Steve Gilbert of Sweetness & Light calls our attention to the probability that Muslims will also be expempt. According to a March 23 publication on an authoritative Islamic Web site managed by Sheikh Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjid, various fatwas (religious decrees) absolutely forbid Muslim participation in any sort of health care or other risk insurance:

Health insurance is haraam like other types of commercial insurance, because it is based on ambiguity, gambling and riba (usury). This is what is stated in fatwas by the senior scholars.

In Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa'imah (15/277) there is a quotation of a statement of the Council of Senior Scholars concerning the prohibition on insurance and why it is haraam

It says in Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa'imah (15/251):

Firstly: Commercial insurance of all types is haraam because it involves ambiguity, riba, uncertainty, gambling and consuming people's wealth unlawfully, and other shar'i

Secondly: It is not permissible for the Muslim to get involved with insurance companies by working in administration or otherwise, because working in them comes under the heading of cooperating in sin and transgression, and Allaah forbids that as He says: "but do not help one another in sin and transgression. And fear Allaah. Verily, Allaah is Severe in punishment"

[al-Maa'idah 5:2]. End quote.
reservations.
And Allaah knows best.

So, it turns out that observant Muslims are not only strictly forbidden from buying any health insurance under the ObamaCare mandate, but may also not even work for any company that provides such insurance or any other form of commercial insurance.

It is not made clear whether or not it is religiously okay to accept "free" non-insured medical care such as that offered in hospital ERs and to some who are covered by Medicaid.

Whether it's all right to serve as a doctor, nurse, or orderly caring for patients whose medical services are being paid for by insurance is not covered in the present response - but one could probably obtain a religious ruling from the Sheikh, whose site welcomes the submission of questions about Islamic law and practices.

This provision was intentionally inserted by Chuck Schumer. It also applies to Amish and supposedly any religious organization that doesn’t believe in insurance. I’ll be looking for a local church that qualifies.

This is also at Hotair and Michelle Malkin
How strange this ,SO FAR, only applies to Amish in New York.
Guess this will have to be amended too

If the GOp was smart they’d add it as am amendment to the House recon bill the Senate is voting on.
Any change to this will force it back to the house.

Hmmmmmm...they didn’t bring boatloads of cash with them from Somalia, yet I see many women burkas at the clinic everytime I go. At this clinic it costs a MINIMUM of $8,500 for pre-natal care, delivery and hospital stay. Since they average over 6 children per family, how are they paying for it???!!!

There’s a space in yours after the 2010. That’s probably it.

I’m considering telling .gov that I’m a Muslim. How are they to know otherwise? It’s easy to tell that I’m not Amish, but I can tell them that I’m a Muslim convert...

There is a space (%20) between “2010” a “/03” in the bad link — “2010 /03” is bad “2010/03” is good.

The 0bama-trons were too cowardly to make the Amish part of socialized health care. No good comes from tangling with the Amish. You will only get bad PR for yourself and that is why they were made exempt

I foresee a court case demanding that Catholics be able to buy an insurance policy that doesn't cover abortion, contraception, sex change operations, sterilization, IVF, etc.

The fedgov cannot make a law privileging one religion over another. Period.

I’ve heard that Muslims have religious legal dodges to handle this kind of issue. They do something else that they don’t call insurance, but which handles the costs.

it wouldnt take much to establish a mennonite denomination that is every bit the same as any mainline protestant denomination except that your tenets disallow government insurance

Mennonites are from the same tree as amish folk - heck baptists are too for that matter

They do something else that they don’t call insurance, but which handles the costs.

Run by their Mosque or Imman? The thing is, if they are exempt from paying, they sure won't be exempted from making use of the medical system without paying. There are plenty of Muslims who do all their routine health care through clinics and/or the emergency room. Major stuff, they pay or someone in their Mosque shows up with a check to take care of things. From what you're saying, I guess the person from the Mosque isn't passing out charity as much as paying out the Islamic alternative to insurance. I'm going to dig around and see whether it's just the most strict Muslims who live by that rule or all of them. Interesting any way it goes, really, because you know that if they're not exempt someone will sue to make allow them an exemption if the Amish are exempted.

Thanks for the info,
